    Gotiņa is just the Latvian word for fudge. The brand you tried is the most popular called Skrīveru (named after the town where it's produced). Some of their flavours are hit & miss, such as that hemp flavoured one you tried first.

    As a latvian i have always stayed away from ikra because it makes me feel sick but I do recommend trying some "lašmaizītes" which is just white bread with butter, raw salmon, black pepper, lemon juice and onion on it. That shit SLAPS. Also recommend trying some normal pelmeni, they're easy to buy at any store, you just throw them in some boiling water, wait until they become floaters, drain the water and enjoy with some sour cream, salt and pepper. It's the most basic latvian meal (like latvia's equilavent of cup noodles) but even better. Also the market is SO much better at summer, it's so much diverse and the fruit is even fresher, there are ice cream stands, you can buy cold kvass from a tap, so I recommend going there when it gets warmer.

    Mate, you're not supposed to eat Salmon roe by itself, lol. For example: Blinis with Crème Fraîche: Spread crème fraîche on bite-sized blinis and top them with a dollop of salmon roe. The combination of creamy, tangy, and salty flavors creates a delightful harmony. 2.3 Canapés and Toasts: Impress your guests by serving canapés or toasts with a generous spread of salmon roe. Pair it with cream cheese or avocado for a delectable treat. 2.4 Salad Enhancer: Add a touch of elegance to your salads by garnishing them with salmon roe. The burst of flavor will elevate your greens to a whole new level. 2.5 Pasta and Risotto: Stir salmon roe into cooked pasta or risotto just before serving. The eggs will gently warm and release their delicious flavors, creating a memorable dish.

    Many youtubers who visit Central Market of Riga mention they sell Latvian produced stuff there, but in reality many stuff there are imported (like mandarins, hurma (I don't know the name in English)) and some bread stuff also isn't traditionaly Latvian.

    0:30 The buildings of the Riga Central Market were built as market buildings in 1925. There was never a single airship in them. Yes, in its construction, metal structures were used, which were intended to be used for airship hangars of the German troops in Vainode during the First World War. But these hangars were never built. No zeppelin has ever been in the market buildings.

    Pretty messed up to approach vendors in Latvia, while speaking in Russian. Better to use English instead, if you don’t know the local language, at least that’s neutral.
    Otherwise cool video!

    • @dreamthedream8929
      @dreamthedream8929 Рік тому

      Why? Plenty of them speak Russian, it's clear. Perhaps more would speak Russian than English. And why are you telling him to not practice his Russian language? He wanted to practice it and used this opportunity and it's great. Leave at that. There is no problem there. Don't make one.

    • @HaloFTW117
      @HaloFTW117 Рік тому +1

      @@dreamthedream8929 proves you should brush upon your history and topic prior to commenting. As a Latvian, I know more people who speak English and no Russian rather of the opposite. Secondly - would it not be strange and incorrect if I would go and practice my German, for example, in Israel? Or Azeri in Armenia?
      Latvia has suffered from centuries of Russian imperialism and the Russian language is a colonizer language which was imposed and forced upon the locals, while trying to genocide the local language and culture.
      It is a problem and this is not ok. If you come to Latvian, no one would expect you to know anything in the local language, but at least show some respect and use a neutral language such as English.

    • @dreamthedream8929
      @dreamthedream8929 Рік тому

      @@HaloFTW117 Im latvian too and I have no problem with that at all, you are making a problem and in this case you shouldnt. Its as simple as that, he wanted to practice Russian and thats a good place for it. I do the same sometimes. I wanna practice Russian and in Latvia start speaking in Russian if I can see that that person would know it. Use the opportunity. Plenty of people in that market know Russian and perhaps not so much English. You are not gonna tell anyone to speak English when they wanna practice another language. Yes, nothing wrong about practicing German in Israel when you can see that people there may know it and if you happen to be in a place like that. Happens all the time in various countries

    • @dreamthedream8929
      @dreamthedream8929 Рік тому

      @@HaloFTW117 as far as latvian people knowing english goes, thats true, many do. In fact many latvian youngsters seem to know so much english that they cannot even speak latvian anymore. and what has become of that is a shame, polluting their own language with english and russian words. listen to latvian people speak on the streets, what the hell is that?

    Do not go to a foreign monastery with your songbook. You cannot judge things and customs in a foreign country with your own standards and ignorance. You need to try to understand and learn how others do it.
