One of my favorite songs all times. Love it.
I liked this one sooo much, and yes, I think this was the moment things got better for us. Even leading to our victory I'm sure, at the least it was the starting point for things to get back to nice quality.

This was indeed a bit of a turnaround for the Dutch entries for Eurovision but it wasn't all because of Anouk. It was also down an change in the make up of the Dutch Eurovision Committee (made of artists, music business people, media executives etc.) where finally the idea took hold that before you are going to try to win the contest you first have to attract quality artists with quality songs. And then it took an artist with "balls of steel" like Anouk to take on the challenge. If my memory serves me right she actually had been working on a set of songs that were something totally different then what people expected of her, something she needed to do for pure artistic reasons which became the Sad Singalong Songs album and then the Eurovision thing came along. The gutsy move from both parties involved (Anouk and committee) was to send a song from this album. If it hadn't qualified for the final then Eurovision would have been totally dead here in the Netherlands with no artist ever going to participate again. The gamble paid of and it paved the way for quality entries from The Common Linnets, Ogene and of course Duncan Laurence.
Well, most of all it was that they stopped letting the Dutch audience vote on the entry. That improved the quality markedly.
@@bentels5340 Well yeah, we had some final say but who was competing in national finale was still deciced by some sort of committee. Or in some case which artist would go but then the audience could sort of decide which song, where they could choose from songs selected by that same committee. The big difference was that they changed the make up of the committee and ditched the national final. What they doing now is focusing on long term development, finding an artist that has something to say with a song that is top quality. And then on top of that make sure it is presented in the best possible way at Eurovision.
I am hoping that the committee is talking to Floor Jansen about a future involvement because that would be a very smart move .. guaranteed points from Finland 🙂

Anouk has a very unique voice! I really love most of her songs, with this song, I had to be ''comfortable'' with. Sometimes, I don't ''feel'' the song right away, and it need some time for me to understand a song.

The day we finally reached the grand final! And from that day on, every year. I love this song although the subject isn't nice.
A few years after Anouk we didn't reach the grand final. Trijntje had chosen a song written by Anouk. Anouk warned her not to do that one but she didn't listen, as she also didn't to her dresser. 😉

Eurovision is a political contest. Nothing to do with the best song or singer(s) unfortunately. For me Anouk is a rock chick and I don't really like this song (but that's personal, I know). She did a good job here though
I bet you actually haven't watched Eurovision in a long long time otherwise you wouldn't make a statement like this one. Yes, the voting system isn't perfect but there is really nothing political about it. What you see isn't political influence (90% of the people really don't pay attention to anything political) but cultural bias: you are much more prone to like music from a culturally close country then from something further afield. It is very clear that in certain parts of Europe they like certain styles, song structures, chord progressions, singing styles etc. which don't fair well in other parts. Nothing wrong with that, in fact I like the fact that countries are embracing their cultural identity and showcasing it in their Eurovision entries.
Oh man. What did I hate that song. I dislike most of her songs. And especially dislike her personality.
