I moved to SD from Arkansas at 18. I was there for 10 years. I don’t care what anyone says about California. There’s no place like San Diego. The stories and adventures you experience, it’s like living in a movie everyday. The sadness I felt. The joy I gained. The friends I gained and lost. This song makes me want to go back. Only the strong can make it, and I was making it.
I recently moved from SD to Arkansas. I also miss it.

I think it has to be about Tom, and I actually cried a bit listening to it the second time through.

We know Tom and Mark like the Cure - they even had Robert Smith sing on "All of This". As I'm sure you all know, Travis and Mark live in LA and Tom lives in San Diego. It was the distance between these two cities that made "Neighborhoods".... lackluster. They recorded in separate studios, Mark and Trav in LA, Tom in San Diego. They grew apart in the process (pre hiatus and post hiatus) - and I think it's all because of San Diego.
"And listen to our favorite songs in the parking lot And think of every person I ever lost to San Diego"
This line hits me so hard - I think it's Mark's way of saying he lost one of his best friends. It's not really about the city in my mind, it's about the memories we have with our old pals and the thought of losing them and not wanting to go back to the places that remind us of losing them. And I KNOW it's Matt singing that part, but I think it's still Mark's thoughts.
I'm really digging this whole album.

Naim Jim van Wissen right. I think it makes sense that Bored To Death was the lead single but real shit this should’ve been a single and is the best song on the album and right up there with the best choruses in their career.

Not a big Blink-182 fan, but I was a big Chargers fan. For those not familiar, the San Diego Chargers played in San Diego from 1961 until last year. Their departure hit me hard, and this song has been a great coping mechanism. You can hear the emotion behind the lyrics, something you don't normally hear in top 40 songs. Great song..... thank you Blink-182

The lyrics "like the ocean blue" are from an alkaline trio track called Trucks and Trains. The vocalization music even sounds similar...
Matt Skiba singing about going abck to San Diego, listening to the cure and thinking of every person we ever lost there... Tom was the dad who left us to go chase aliens. Skiba's the great step-dad we didn't appreciate in the beginning, this is my favorite vocal arrangement from him.
I grew up in the Bay Area but all my extended family was in San Diego growing up. That city will always be a second home to me and this song gets me in all the good feels.

It’s just a taste thing. And ‘San Diego’, I don’t know why, but I was concerned it was going to get cut. I’m really glad it didn’t. I think it’s such a great song. There’s some mixed feelings about San Diego within the band. I won’t go into specifics, but I think it expresses those feelings without - obviously the band originates from San Diego, and the fans there are just amazing. So, it’s not a diss to the city, but it’s sort of, if I can say so, similar to me having memories of Chicago. That’s where I’m from. I love how it's the bands hometown and my hometown and that this is a "left my hometown and don't wanna go back" song
I know this isn't considered their best song or Album but I grew up near Poway where Blink 182 started and I always get nostalgic hearing this song, since I moved away from North County around the time this song came out.
Once I heard the line: "We bought a one way ticket, so we can go see The Cure.." I knew it was about Mark and Tom...
This song is just so sad. We can all relate. We're only left with fun (good and bad) memories during our younger days and see many things and people have changed. "And listen to our favorite songs in the parking lot And think of every person I ever lost to San Diego"-- This line indeed hits me hard as well. And we could even think of Tom while Mark sings this part.

Like the average Blinktard gives a shit who Skiba is. They’re lucky they got someone as good as him to replace Tom. It’s an upgrade anyway, especially if DeLonge has fallen off in his live performances before the change as I’ve heard.
Alkaline Trio were a better band for many years than Blink, but never had a third of the fanbase. Once again, Skiba joining Blink is probably the best thing that could have happened to Blink...

hell no thats not wrong.. blink always seems to release the wrong singles in that respect since jerry finn passed anyway. but they always have gems on the albums and tend to promote the wrong songs.. like neighborhoods wishing well or something should of been the single with up all night instead of ghosts on the dance floor.. and DeD when i was young instead of pretty little girl or boxing day... but yeah thats my fav part of getting a new blink album the songs that havent been promoted... just because i love listening top to bottom over and over until i find those 2 or 3 for me.

I used to live in San Diego growing up from 2010-2019 and I had a lot of friends there and was really happy but I moved the summer right before my senior year of high school and I found and listened to this song while moving and even at my new high school , it made me miss my friends and San Diego so much

blink 182 congratulations for this songs are very good.
I've been a diehard blink and alk3 fan since i was 13. listening to them both evolve has been a great ride and i'm glad that i get to see what i consider a supergroup form from my 2 favorite bands growing up. no, it's not better than Enema of the State or From here to Infirmary, but these guys were obviously restricted on creative liberties. Skiba is an amazing lyricist, and you can definitely get a whiff of some of his flavor in the more sombre lyrics. glad to see these boys make music together!
