Une musique aléatoire
Sur un chemin qui ne l’est pas
Vient nous offrir un répertoire
L’étonnement nous tend les bras…
Des mandarins d’un coup de patte

Dans un réel qui se dilate
Chantent le clair autant que Nyx…
L’instinct les pousse et les dirige

L’Art constamment doit nous surprendre
Nous émouvoir - brisant le temps -
C’est un bonheur qu’il sait répandre
Dans des instants tous éclatants…
L’Art est alors aussi céleste
L’oiseau se mute en ménestrel
Par la grandeur qu’il manifeste
Il se révèle intemporel…

Nota : Ummagumma est nom du 4° album des Pink Floyd (1969).
Les parties 2 et 3 du titre Sysyphus me sont spontanément venues à l’esprit en visitant cette exposition.

+Cilly Honey I'm guessing they put so much focus on the "artist" because the birds don't produce much that deserves to be called music. They probably got two short soundbites that sounded a bit like free jazz, and the rest was just dissonant noise. But hey, it's "art". Whatever that means today.

katriell I'm someone who thinks that art is everywhere and happens all around us. A street musician is an artist. So is a hobby cook who creates visually and gustatorily appealing works of art in the kitchen, or a person who knits a patterned scarf. Even a woman who applies makeup in the morning creates a temporary piece of body art. Anything that we as humans do to please our own senses and those of others fits into my very generous definition of art. Putting store-bought instruments in a room with a flock of equally store-bought pets, however, does not.

I'm not saying that is terribly cruel child abuse; many pets are kept in worse conditions, not to mention farm animals. Nonetheless, it leaves a bitter taste to see living, sentient animals used in an art installation. This is a level of noise that the animals must find very bothersome, and the visitors cause additional stress for the finches. On top of that, an installation of this kind is simply unhygienic and even a potential health risk. Can you say "bird droppings"? I'd only walk through there with rubber boots and an umbrella.
Those birds look very clean and content! When they fly off the guitars they don't appear frightened. I have raised Many kinds of birds and these seem well cared for. Who made you a "bird expert"?
It might qualify as art... but it has nothing to do with music
