Chris, FYI, Stop by the local police department and tell them you need a "permit to operate". It's just a piece of paper they fill out and takes about 10 minutes. It will save you $ in the future. Its usually free but you will need to show proof of insurance and will need the vehicle year and vin number where as it doesn't have tags assigned yet.
I'm not sure how they do it in Washington, but here in Maine you can just stop by the nearest pd where the vehicle is located and ask for a permit to operate...might be worth giving the local pd a call? Nice rig. though, I'm looking forward to seeing future vids!
All states are different, i think out here most states use trip permits to do the same thing youre talking about.. Its all good, as long as im legal its nice to not worry about anything.
Chris! Fj owner checking in... looks like you scored a good deal! Roof rack gauge pods diff lock alloys. U got a well optioned truck! BTW Fjs are notorious for steering wheel shake at highway speeds and are super sensitive to tire balance. Look for a hunter road force balancing if you wanna get it dialled in. A regular balance won't do. Also I'm surprised that side mirror survived a rollover.. it must of been while off-roading.
Ace body on frame, solid rear axle, parts bin sharing with the Tacoma and prado etc. its an SUV but very commonly referred to as a truck. I didn't say pick up truck either.
B is for Build it definitely showed man. I enjoy watching your stuff, cant wait to see the finished Lotus. That hotel did look swanky as hell, which one was it?
Garbage vehicles, just sold my STi for an FJ. Not only am I never be l buying a car again, I'll never buy Subaru again. Fun, great in snow and safe...but three turbos, head gasket issues and premature bearings...nonsense.
the thing i really like about b is for build, besides the epic content, is the fact that the videos feel like they are filmed a few days ago, as opposed to mighty car mods which are probably filmed 6 months prior.
I've found that in a pinch if you needed to work on a vehicle in bad weather, a do it yourself car wash bay works pretty well to keep the rain off of you. Might get some weird looks but at least your dryer than you would be in a parking lot.
Another great episode Chris and Adrian, love watching your antics. Liked the impromptu repairs on the car park, reminds me of some of the seriously scary repair jobs I've seen on my worldly travels and the home brew at the end too, nice touch and a chill end to the day!
This channel gave me the drive to fix my truck which had been sitting for 6 years. Would have loved to meet them while they were in my town (Tacoma). Save them a few bucks on Uber fair. Maybe next time. :)
Looks like a good platform to build off only thing I'd worry about is maybe that A- pillar is bent in but wouldn't fully know till you mount a new door hopefully not the case..But definitely looking forward to the build
I think you're going to like it. Or, I guess at this point, ARE liking it. I bought an FJ kind of randomly last year - I was literally only looking at trailer hitches on vehicles in the used car lot at my local Toyota dealership, because I needed something that could haul my food trailer. So I was walking around the lot, scanning back bumpers and then looking at the price tags. The FJ was by far the cheapest, and I loved the water-proof interior which fit in well with hauling around a bunch of tables, shade structures, and ice chests. A year later, and I'm absolutely loving this little truck... and I'm a Jeep guy. I don't know what sort of internal politics kept Toyota from pushing the FJ, and it's a tragedy that they cancelled production, but from all I've heard (and experienced personally) everyone who has one loves it. Enjoy!!
It's probably just panel damage. Could easily repair that with some new panels and bog. If you want some new shocks, I'd say go for bilsteins. I've got them on my Prado and can't fault them at all. Which engine does it have under the hood though? It's either a single or dual VVT-i 1GR engine there. Can't wait to see more Chris!
next time you need to make a window go to the fabric section at walmart they sell the clear plastic for soft tops real cheap. that plus some clear tape is a near permanent window.
This car is a bargain for 5000$!! You can drive as is. Color blue is so cool. You are a lucky man. Cheers from Spain. Last week on WRC Racc, the world rally championchip where it comes people arround the world I saw some guys with "B is for build" caps.
Chris, if the car rolled over the mirror be smashed on the one side but its not so maybe a big rig or raised truck sideswiped it. I don't know just something I noticed
looks like you got a good deal on this one! the vehicle most likely did a low speed layover on it's side and because it most likely went onto it's side the insurance wrote it off because as I was told when I rolled an S10 I had they instantly write the vehicle off because of fluids leaking out and the insurance sees it as a huge expensive to possibly repair everything from the loss of fluid..don't make sense but that is what I was told by the adjuster...good luck on this build but if it was me I would fix and flip it because these things sell for big bucks!
Nice build! You have to get into bigger adventures! Aren't there any events you can go? put 30 gopros on the car and go for it! What about the Rally BRZ?
Hey there! Great great videos, all the way back to the day you rescued the BRZ where the door was made out of black plastic bags. May I ask, I believe the quality on your videos is perfect, but could you please try using different kinds of music on your videos? Everytime you add music to emphasize an aspect of the shot, you do it with happy, clubby music. Everytime. Look at that beautiful and simple timelapse there! A calm music track would've made it even better, kinda like Top Gear UK or MotorTrend. Again, other than that small thing, great great videos and amazing work!
I would say he was fishtailing, the rear tire came off the bead, the wheel dug into the ground causing it to flop onto it's side. It happened to me once.
Hey since it needs new suspension might as well lift it Wheelers off-road is Grants Pass is a awesome seller for that stuff. Also Hello from Redmond Oregon
shit son, you were just down the road from me! i've been watching since 5k subscribers and it's incredible how far youve come. FJ is my favorite offroad vehicle and frs/lotus is my favorite car with track potential. i love this damn channel!
Ahh the hotel Murano, such a nice hotel. Also seeing yall drive around that Walmart i used to live like right there. Looks like you picked up a good car.
Exactly! That's why he needs to quit his day job. This way he could put more time into his videos and make more money. But we should all stop acting like we know everything about his financials.
just throw dyna beads into the next wheel setup you are planning to get, dont bother with having a store balance them and having them tossed off later when you off road.
I am SO hyped for this series. FJ's are sick as fuck, please don't ruin this haha;) Camera work and production quality was dope as well, keep it up chris:)
Is it weird that I've never bothered with any kind of permits when buying cars from other states? I regularly buy cars from Cali and drive them to Arizona with no insurance or registration. I have some old Arizona/Cali plates that still have current registration that I just slap on if necessary, but I've driven cars without plates for quite a while too.
I guess I've just been lucky in that I've never gotten pulled over in a different state while driving an unregistered car. California is generally quite lax, since they essentially allow you to run without a plate for up to 6 months. So many cars in LA have no plates at all, so that's why I've never gotten pulled over for it. And in Arizona I'm mostly driving through the middle of nowhere with hardly a single cop on the road so I've never encountered any trouble. Though I have gotten pulled over once in Arizona for not having registration, but I showed them the title and said I bought the car the same day (which was true) and it was a Sunday so none of the DMVs were open. They just let me off with a warning and told me to register it as soon as possible.
Id say just a new passenger door and fender, then add the armor plating. theres no way to salvage that door if you plan on putting a window in it again.
And you get this instead of a trip permit? Because thats what i bought.
I think bmv offers trip permits here also but I've never gone that route. This is going to be awesome when you get it finished. Congratulations!
>.< just drive it home you wimp.
Insurance and registration is for losers.
It makes me feel sad when I get to the end of a B is for Build video, but then I feel happy because I know another one is coming
0ttoman I'm a new fj owner and noticed all the goodie options also I'm soo glad I got them with mine
It's not a truck.
sure it is. SUVs are classified as light trucks
Ace body on frame, solid rear axle, parts bin sharing with the Tacoma and prado etc. its an SUV but very commonly referred to as a truck. I didn't say pick up truck either.
can we all thank the guy or guys who said to make the video 👏👏👏👏
Accidental refresh squad 😏
Ayyyyy
i do this all the time XD
That city time lapse from night to day was sick! Stoked to see what you guys do with the FJ.
I woke up at 5AM to start filming that :p I was very happy with the result too. I took some extra time to focus on filming during this trip
B is for Build it definitely showed man. I enjoy watching your stuff, cant wait to see the finished Lotus. That hotel did look swanky as hell, which one was it?
Casey timelapse ;) really nice!
That subie at 7:15 😳
Beat me to it hahah
Bryce
Garbage vehicles, just sold my STi for an FJ. Not only am I never be l buying a car again, I'll never buy Subaru again. Fun, great in snow and safe...but three turbos, head gasket issues and premature bearings...nonsense.
If the shocks need replaced you might as well replace the springs and add a bit more lift while you're in there.
thats what im thinkin
He's going to need it with all the armor he wants lol
the thing i really like about b is for build, besides the epic content, is the fact that the videos feel like they are filmed a few days ago, as opposed to mighty car mods which are probably filmed 6 months prior.
yeah I really like releasing footage while im working on it, it lets me interact with people and take advice and stuff while im working on projects.
I've found that in a pinch if you needed to work on a vehicle in bad weather, a do it yourself car wash bay works pretty well to keep the rain off of you. Might get some weird looks but at least your dryer than you would be in a parking lot.
As an FJ owner, I would definitely purchase an FJ shirt! Keep up the great work and can't wait to see how the FJ build goes!!
Hey Chris you should buy the A-Trak switch, if you want to go offroading. Its only a switch and easy ti install, but helps you climb mountains
This was, to date, the best episode i have watched from B is for B! It felt very close and personal but was also really entertaining! loved it!
Another great episode Chris and Adrian, love watching your antics. Liked the impromptu repairs on the car park, reminds me of some of the seriously scary repair jobs I've seen on my worldly travels and the home brew at the end too, nice touch and a chill end to the day!
I love fj cruisers can't wait to see this
build
This channel gave me the drive to fix my truck which had been sitting for 6 years. Would have loved to meet them while they were in my town (Tacoma). Save them a few bucks on Uber fair. Maybe next time. :)
This will be a nice refresh to the channel! (not that it really needed any..) excited for this!
Looks like a good platform to build off only thing I'd worry about is maybe that A- pillar is bent in but wouldn't fully know till you mount a new door hopefully not the case..But definitely looking forward to the build
I don't know why, but its weird seeing an episode in my town lol.
Shut Yer Face Garage agreed haha
yea was gonna say dang I was just down the road from there
i was at that walmart today lol
Same here!
Yeah I live only a couple minutes from there
before driving off in any car i recommend checking the fluids
I think you're going to like it. Or, I guess at this point, ARE liking it. stoked you found a clean ride. its gonna be a sick build
It's probably just panel damage. Could easily repair that with some new panels and bog. If you want some new shocks, I'd say go for bilsteins. I've got them on my Prado and can't fault them at all. next time you need to make a window go to the fabric section at walmart they sell the clear plastic for soft tops real cheap. that plus some clear tape is a near permanent window.
Looks like a good start!
I live in the city you were driving through talking about the suspension. Centralia/Chehalis.
Crazy weekend for a road trip. I drove from Portland to Bellingham and back the same weekend.
Chris buy the bushwacker fender flares, also go for new fender and door they are relatively inexpensive. A fan from Panama that owns a badass Fj
This car is a bargain for 5000$!! You can drive as is. Color blue is so cool. You are a lucky man. Cheers from Spain.
Last week on WRC Racc, the world rally championchip where it comes people arround the world I saw some guys with "B is for build" caps.
Wow, that's all it takes to total an FJ? Amazing. Looks like you got a pretty solid rig for the money.
Look at it this way -- since the PS front fender's fubared already, less pressure on you when it comes time to install a snorkel! :-)
Yes, I'll be ordering 2 shirts (men's & ladies). I do own an FJ (just made last payment last week) and I absolutely love it!!!
This car was lowkey ahead of its time in a way and people used to hate it but now I think it's finally being appreciated more
Chris, if the car rolled over the mirror be smashed on the one side but its not so maybe a big rig or raised truck sideswiped it. I don't know just something I noticed
12:15 that was the most satisfying crunch I've ever heard
on the rear diff depending on model put a breather tube on it so if you get in deep water won't mess it up
looks like you got a good deal on this one! the vehicle most likely did a low speed layover on it's side and because it most likely went onto it's side the insurance wrote it off because as I was told when I rolled an S10 I had they instantly write the vehicle off because of fluids leaking out and the insurance sees it as a huge expensive to possibly repair everything from the loss of fluid..don't make sense but that is what I was told by the adjuster...good luck on this build but if it was me I would fix and flip it because these things sell for big bucks!
You stayed at Hotel Murano and even caught me entering my work below in the time lapse. How cool! Should do a meet in Washington soon :)
Looks like a great base for the project and the price was really good too!
Love this channel! Now you got me inspired to do a "Baja", desert race truck build, with a total steampunk/ dieselpunk theme!
A clear tape window? You guys crack me up! But a brilliant idea.
more importantly than the rear locker is the fact you have the A-trac feature!!
Very nice FJ.Can't wait to see it get fixed.
i definitely want an FJ shirt. I thoroughly enjoy my FJ Cruiser. Resto modding an FJ40 currently myself. Subscribed!
You guys are awesome!! Did my first copart transaction today bought a 2008 avenger for 950 dollars.
So frustrating that you were less than a mile away from me. Wish I could've met up with you guys. Looking forward to the build!
Great video. I'm looking forward to this build. I'll likely buy a shirt once they come out.
this is going to be a great build. I can't wait for the lotus to be finished to.
Nice build! You have to get into bigger adventures! Aren't there any events you can go? put 30 gopros on the car and go for it! What about the Rally BRZ?

I'm looking forward to this series! I have an FJ so I'm interested to see what you do with it!
I'm so excited for this build!!!
these types of videos need to happen more
replace the shocks with some off road shocks and swap out the control arms for more travel
This will be awesome! Looks like a great pickup from Copart.
U should start do more videos like that! That was great!
Your channel popped in my home page and you guys are awesome.. this ep2 and the adventure car build got me hooked! You guys crazy! Subscribed!
That NW weather would be the death of me, but there's like no traffic lol...
I'm excited for the new build
Chris! Let me know if you need any help with that thing!
MotionAutoTv pretty cool seeing you here! Supra is coming up nicely
Closed captions were on point!
looks like it was an offroad rollover
I would say he was fishtailing, the rear tire came off the bead, the wheel dug into the ground causing it to flop onto it's side. It happened to me once.
Glad I stumbled upon this channel, this was great! I love your enthusiasm and your easy going attitude, can't wait to watch more videos!
that Subaru at 7:11 looks nice
B is for Build meets Roadkill. Nice car, eager to see it get repaired.
you always start taping from bottom to up so the rain does not get between the layers
Thanks for using my track in your video ;)
Just turned 21, IDK about washington, but in michigan you have to renew your dl before your 21st so that one is actually expired, lol
7:11 that White STi
Dammmmm the editing quality is WAY BETTER then the last time u tripped for the brz
Hey since it needs new suspension might as well lift it
Wheelers off-road is Grants Pass is a awesome seller for that stuff.
Also Hello from Redmond Oregon
I can't wait to watch this build.
looks like it slid into a wall. But a winner none the less
Thatdudeinblue! Haha, awesome reference Chris!
I have a 2007 original 134K truck in sunburst Yellow. Nice Vlog. You have a newUA-cam fan.
I think that hotel is fancier than you're letting on...especially if dudes in berets are checking in 3:55
I like the road trip episodes of Roadkill. And the ones on here. :)
shit son, you were just down the road from me! i've been watching since 5k subscribers and it's incredible how far youve come. FJ is my favorite offroad vehicle and frs/lotus is my favorite car with track potential. i love this damn channel!
Ahh the hotel Murano, such a nice hotel. Also seeing yall drive around that Walmart i used to live like right there. Looks like you picked up a good car.
Hell yes. This is what I live for lol.
well..might want to look into some hobbies ☻
Ive loved the other videos, but for some reason this is my favorite one yet lol
You inspired me to buy my first ever car, it's also an adventure mobile, 1976 Chevy g10, same engine as the corvette
Your channel is so addictive I love watching your diy
love these roadtrips. killer. I want an fj now
damn, for 5 grand that FJ is fantastic. Good job Chris! I really like this video.
Man you scored on this find!
Sick! I work right down the road from the hotel in Tacoma. I can see your hotel from my building!
loved the time lapse
Your traveling footage is quality!
Dude compared to the Evora when you first got it, this is a jewel lol excited for what's next!
Chris this video was dope. Quit your day job and just make vlogs!
Jacob Falk no not yet his not making much money on his channel
Exactly! That's why he needs to quit his day job. This way he could put more time into his videos and make more money. But we should all stop acting like we know everything about his financials.
Jacob Falk 2 incomes is better than 1
really liked this vlog style! great video as always.
Man you guys have it good. This thing is unaffordable where i live!
Good luck on the build really love toyota cars and you brought an FJ wow
You gotta invest in something with a hitch and trailer!
just throw dyna beads into the next wheel setup you are planning to get, dont bother with having a store balance them and having them tossed off later when you off road.
I am SO hyped for this series. FJ's are sick as fuck, please don't ruin this haha;)
Camera work and production quality was dope as well, keep it up chris:)
That "beer" looks a lot like piss. Haha, sweet video, can't wait to see the finished FJ.

You're gunna be super worried when you see those blueberry'. Eveything is great right up till you get that $1500 ticket.

***** I used to drive around drunk all the time until I got busted lol
Id say just a new passenger door and fender, then add the armor plating. theres no way to salvage that door if you plan on putting a window in it again.
