Great video, ladies! One thing to note is that coast redwood is historically the tallest, and largest, and widest living tree on earth. They used to shatter practically every record imaginable. Oakland had one over 32 feet wide at chest height, and Fieldbrook had a tree almost twice as big as General Sherman. Unfortunately, the logging of coast redwoods was horrendous. The tallest living was only about a football field's distance from being clearcut before legislation expanded Redwood National Park and saved it during the seventies. A few undisclosed monsters are still out there, though. But I always stop and reflect on how poorly humanity as a whole has treated nature and what we can do today to treat her better.

The volume records from a hundred plus years ago for coastal redwoods are not confirmed/have no real evidence so they do not count. There’s a giant sequoia snag still in existence known as the “muir snag” which is only the core wood and it is roughly 36 feet across meaning that with sapwood and bark it was probably around 45 feet across, and who knows how tall and bolumous

@@BigCroca the Muir Snag is an amazing tree, to be sure. But that 36ft measurement was made at the base. Professionals measure diameter at "breast height" (roughly 4.5ft above average ground level).
Even then, there are multiple living coast redwoods today that are over 40ft across at the base, one of which is a single trunk over 29ft at breast height and 43ft across at the base. The ones that are no longer alive were much wider, at both measurements. As a reference, in the 1800s, William Gibbons measured a stump from a single trunk roughly 32ft across near breast height and a triple fusion 57ft across near the same height.

@@jmcsquared18 Can you cite for me the 40ft diameter tree? That would be quite the find, but I can't seem to find any source that actually documents it.

My friend in Sutherlin Oregon has 3 Sequoia on their property and are doing well at about 100 ft. each. I thought they were strange looking Cedar until I picked up cones from each tree, yep, Sequoia trees.

We need one of these in every yard along the west coast. Might even end the annual wildfires this way

The tallest tree (a redwood) is known as Hyperion. Where it is has been a closely guarded secret since it was first discovered in 2006 and only a handful of people know where it is. I wonder if Ranger Ally is one of those people?

♥ Sharing ♥ The Coulter and sugar are my favorite cones, but the magnificent coastal redwood and Sequoias trees are without a doubt the most amazing conifers on earth. ♥ I missed going to see the pacific coastal redwoods on my last birthday, so someone please give a tree a hug for me. ♥ Yes, seeing these tree's are my birthday wish every year! ♥ ☺

Why are giant sequoias only found on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada range ? Will they not grow on the eastern side ?

Coast redwood has become near-equal for single stem volume. Here, for example >> ua-cam.com/video/5Q4v8VbNyOg/v-deo.html ... the coast species is also the widest diameter as well as tallest height. Cones is a big difference, seeing upper coast redwood foliage is very similar to Sequoiadendron foliage.

Redwood’s cone is about an “olive” size.
Giant sequoia’s cone is about an “egg” size.
