About this lecture:
The aim of this introductory lecture in our new EUniWell Social Talks series on “Fighting discrimination in Europe” is to provide an overview of European Union anti-discrimination law. After reviewing the background to the development of this law, the legal bases will be explained. The provisions of the Treaties and the place of the Charter of Fundamental Rights will be presented, as well as the directives adopted by the EU institutions to combat discrimination. The question of their transposition into national law will also be raised. A focus on key decisions of the Court of Justice will show the impact of EU legislation on specific situations.
