    Number 9 reminded me of Gatorade. The bottles say something like 85 calories, but then it says two servings. Who would only have half of a gatorade??! Maybe they changed it by now, but I always thought that was ridiculous.

      Don't you have a standard serving for everything in the USA? In Europe each packaged food has info about 100g, so it's easier to compare foods.

      I've never understood. I spend $60-$80 AUD a week for me, my partner AND my Rottweiler. I have no idea what people buy when they consider to be healthy? I'm vegan so in order to maintain I need certain things and I feel in no way limited. Plus, I have bought meat before as my partner ate meat for the first five years of our relationship so I know very well what an omnivores shopping list is like... I save so much damn money comparatively.

      lazer arrow Cooking from scratch is cheap! Split pea soup costs me about 50¢ a serving. Buy veggies in season and when on sale, find when meats go on sale at your local grocer. Tonight's dinner was grilled chicken over a mixed greens and barley salad. Cost: $1.50/person.

    Some very good points, 10 for instance, me and my colleague run up and down stairs/ladders all day installing tv systems for blocks of apartments currently. If I don't bring in a chicken sandwich or something for lunch, when you're a bit tired and hungry, is so easy to run to the nearest Mac d's or supermarket. It also doesn't help if you don't have good good available and you're with a friend/colleague as you'll end up eating whatever they're getting or vice versa.

      Not sure how either of those two things makes me an idiot but no i dont only eat organic food. I prefer it if my veggies are from the farmer in our village but this day and age you simply cant get everything you want to eat next door. Also i'm in germany, how am i gonna get my hands on a Mango here? The only way i can is to get one from the super market which propably has GMO written all over it and i don't care. You know why? Most things you eat are GMO, most of the time, that is to say, unless they poisoned it, they are harmless. But still a GMO Mango is still just a Mango and doesn't have stuff added to it for which you need to be a chemist to know what they are. fps_dan

    As a proponent of starch based diets; I was ready to level criticism at this video. But all the advice you gave is pretty reasonable.
    Healthy food is actually very cheap. Whole starches (grains, tubers, legumes, winter squashes) are very healthy and if purchased in bulk it's cheap. Potatoes are hard to beat for cost, nutritional value, and taste. I like doing oil free oven fries. For veggies focus on nutrient dense veggies like Kale and spinach. I have become a big fan of frozen veggies. I don't have to worry about them going bad if I don't eat them fast enough. Another thing I like to do is vegetable powders. I buy kale when it's on sale, dehydrate it, and grind it up.
    The only supplement I use is vitamin B12. Other than that, the closest thing to a supplement that I use is hemp protein powder. All those magic potions they sell are crap. Just save your money and buy real food.
    A fail that many people fall into is taking everything a diet guru or plan says as gospel. I love the ideas of Dr.John McDougall and my dietary lifestyle is based around his 'Starch Solution' diet. However I don't agree with him 100%. I think he gets a little silly with his views on protein. He recommends staying away from concentrated protein sources like Seitan and protein powders. I personally have no concerns about eating Seitan, Textured Vegetable Protein, or Hemp protein powder. It's my understanding that nutritional science suggests that you can't overdo plant protein. So be mindful of what your favorite diet guru has to say. It's fine to follow their plan; but don't take everything they say as gospel.. Do your own research and decide for yourself. Nutrition facts is a great resource on the latest in nutritional science.

    I've lost 20Lbs of body fat since late November of 2015. I used to be 20%+ body fat and now I'm 15%. It may not sound too impressive but it took me a while to get from 185Lbs to 165Lbs. So about 6 months it took me to get where I am today. Reason why it took a bit longer to get there is because I was on maintenance for about 2 months because I was trying to pack on more muscle before cutting down again. Right now though, my goal is to reach 10% body fat or less. I just want to get my body looking shredded for the summer and when summer is finally over, bulking season begins!!
    How I managed to lose so much weight is simple. Caloric deficit. At 185Lbs, I started at 2200 calories. Lost 10Lbs of body fat, then at 175Lbs, I dropped down to 1800 calories. Now I'm going for 1400 calories, which will help me to reach my 10$ body fat. But I always remember, to eat my required amount of protein, carbs, and fat. People sometimes cut carbs out completely, but carbs are a great source for energy. Carbs are very important because when you're cutting, lifting becomes a lot more exhausting when lifting because you lack fewer calories but carbs will help you a bit. Just don't consume too much carbs.

  • @theRealJohnErtel
    @theRealJohnErtel 5 років тому +2

    Great video. One correction. Carbs are NOT essential for survival. There are essential amino acids and essential fatty acids, but no such thing as an essential carbohydrate. Will life be very fun without carbs and would you have optimal fuel for workouts to get buff? Probably not, but doesn't change the fact that carbs are not actually necessary, and there are buff keto dudes.

    I think the eating healthy thing being more expensive is bullshit. Because if you break down the amount of money you'll spend on eating one day on healthy food vs how much you'll spend on eating at mcdonalds for one meal alone it will be cheaper for the healthy food. Granted me only having been doing all this stuff since the beginning of the year and not being able to afford like all organic stuff like I should be. I'm just buying pounds of chicken and unsalted veggies from walmart. Honestly 40 dollars of actual food that is good for me to keep my metabolism going compared to how much i'll spend on fast food is crazy. Like 60 dollars of meat and another 20 dollars of canned non salted veggies and a 20lb bag of rice has lasted me almost a month. The bag of rice with the pro portions I use on it will last me damn near 6 months.

    • @everydaystuart4801

    my problem recently was the supplements. I did herbal life and in two weeks I lost 6 lbs. a month I lost ten. It was very expensive and I couldn't afford it. Also I felt so unmotivated on the diet. I was controlled by it. I didn't eat much food and I took "meal replacement shakes" and I was so unsatisfied. It was awful. I ditched the expensive diet and I now follow yalls guidelines and I can't wait to get to my goal weight :)

    Great video Buff Dudes, Really really good. One of my problems was when to eat and what to eat. Since i work in 3 shifts. Since ive made a plan its been working crazy good. When i work first shift from 6-14 il eat around 5:20, and il grab apple or some fruit around 11 half 12 ( my breakfast is quite large , rest of the day i manage fine ofc. When im second shift from 14-22 is when i had problems,i would eat nice in the morning get my training done, eat before work, then eat after work and go to bed , i did not like that because i would be very hungry and eat too much. So what ive done is i found place that makes chicken breast sandwich delivery, so i order one around 18:30 and order it with salad and tomatoes and it keeps me full so i dont have to eat when i come home ( i do eat like some protein meal that is small and rich with casein ),, And when im night shift from 22-6 , what i do is eat before work , then around 4 am i eat tuna+cottage cheese and when i come home at 6 am, i can go to bed. Why all this is because i gain mass really fast, i can get fat fast and gain muscle fast. So i have to eat well at all times or i dont get results i want. Since i started eating like this like 3 months ago i lost alot of fat and gained nice quality muscle aswell as strenght. I did not lose weight too much but i lost 8 cm in my waist and my legs+upper body looks really nice and toned now also my vascularity improved and i like it. This video helped me alot so thank you. Also i go to store only once a week and buy all i need till next week. I spend less money so im quite happy for it aswell. Keep up good work.

    Myself:
    I cook everyday or 2 days.
    I utilize a pressure cooker....I really recommend using a pressure cooker, it's healthy, cuts time in half and preserves nutrition better than any other method from my understanding.
    Especially if you just use water and butter along with spices rather than hydrogenated oils which really add up in calories.

I just keep my little black notebook with me when I go out and write down my meals if I eat out. Log em when I get home.

    Sorry but chicken breasts or salads without condiments for taste makes it bland and tasteless. Yes, moderation is key but adding flavor to your meals makes them more enjoyable.

    I couldn't say that I went all in and going too hard to build up with a new lifestyle. I didn't do that as I know the risks of what would happen if I did that as Hudson said "I would've crashed" I did a strategy of at before I started working out about 2 and a half years ago I was scoffing down all kinds of mixes of Sugary stuff such as sour sweets, Cakes, Fizzy drinks, and sometimes eat nothing. Which put into a skin and bone physique form with no muscle or mass at all and only weighed 7 stone, but throughout time I looked at other movie actors and Martial Artists which I did take up for 5 years but it was easy because I was a youngster with no beef on me what so ever, I was the kind of person who had a quick fat loss system but that seemed to have stop after I passed 16 for some reason. So, from that high sugary messed up style I didn't change quick, I went slow as I began to eat Peanuts, eggs, oats, All meat types and rice but during every 2 to 3 days I snuck in a few of those sugary products but only so that my body new that it's habits weren't fully changing or I would've crashed badly with that one.
    After 8 months I put some fat on myself but also some beef too which I then became a track weight of 10.3 stone and then I began my Cardios and deadly core sessions of exercises for 35 mins every 4 days to get ripped for another 6 months to pass on then I began working out with low weights for definition toning muscle for 6 months and then went to expanding my food meals on having 7 to 8 a day but through it I made first 4 meals quite but protein filling and carbohydrates and the other 4 meals extra meats and eggs and went medium and heavy weights to working out and now I weigh 14.6 stone with my efforts. Such a change in my life!!

    I disagree that you need to alter your eating habbits slowly. I use to eat crap but then I pretty much just instantly swiched over to a much healtier lifestyle. I still eat junk, but it's very limited and is only eaten during one of the weekend days. You just need willpower.

    Lunch- 3 eggs
    Dinner- Brown rice with kidney beans
    And cardio every day for 30 minutes mostly high intensity every day only one break break on sunday. My goal is to lose as much fat as possible. yet staying healthy.

      that isn't great. you might lose fat but you will lose all muscle too. have eggs and oatmeal in the morning, some greek yougurt for a snack, chicken and broccoli for lunch, some cottage cheese for a snack, and then for dinner maybe fish or steak. and weight train! that's the best thing you can do

    My problem with falling off tracks would be coming later in the night i get hungry and sometimes i cant help it and probably engulf in extra 200-300 calories, and sometimes its ice cream. So im gonna go back to strict water only, and usually when i go skateboard with my friends ill grab a iced coffee loaded with sugar. Im thinking about dedicating Sunday to eat unhealthy, but not go over my calorie intake. Any advice

      Bodybuilders usually 'bulk' in the winter months and 'cut' in the summer months. Basically, bulking is when you eat a lot of food and gain a large amount of muscle in a relatively short period of time, however, often you'll also get a bit more fat on you. A buff physique is basically what you get after you've bulked enough and then gone through a cut (a time where you watch what you eat more closely and lose the fat you accumulated while bulking); in other words, a lean, muscular physique.
      Hope this helped.

    • @CStrik3r
      @CStrik3r 10 років тому +2

      He was refering to "Dirty Bulking" which is the eat-whatever-you-get-your-eyes-on kind of approach where bodybuilders get really fat and rock a big ol' belly THEN spend 4 months or so cutting, versus "Clean Bulking" where you have a small caloric surplus to build muscle slowly but surely and stay lean year-round, thats what he calls Buff.

    Awesome tips. Try researching the diffrence between gras feed meat and the meat where they basically feed the animals whatever or, the remains we dont eat, back to the animal. Sounds gross? well Your may be eating it. While it may not be dirrectly harmfull, it may at the same time not give you the best benefits compared to grass feed meats. another tip is to learn to use spices and the right type of butter/oil. this lets you shake up the testes and opens alot of combos between Your healthy Foods. At the same time, useing the right type of butter/oil, can make that healty Food taste even better than fast Food but at the same time let it remain healthy. the main issue With fast Foods is that they use REALLY bad fat to Cook it. Lastly its ofc eating enough. as you progress Your training you will slowly need more Food to keep up. this ofc means you have to Balance how much you at least should eat, in order to replenish what youve burned tru exercise. This lets you activly Control Your fat% later on, so you can safly drop it in time for that Beach party(without looseing any buffsnes) and then go back to Your avrage self. its important to always have enough fat% if you want to get more buffed. that fat is Your fule, so you need to keep it at a lvl where you can replenish it every day, have enough to last the day, but still low enough for you to look the way you want to look. a bit extra will never hurt but a bit less will.
