You could add a pulley in the winch line and do a 2:1 pull so it moves slower up and down with half the stress on the winch. Its what i do on my sxs plow 😊
"It's really fun to see an idea in my head start coming together in reality." -Riley I relate to that a lot as a guy who just finished siding my tiny house on wheels.
When you put Ollie in the UTV in his seat, and he turns to the camera and smiles, He looks so happy! It made me smile too. Ollie is going to have a great life and you two are going to teach him soooo much! Love your channel and all the things you guys build. Thank you both. (And Ollie too!)
Not being mathematically inclined, I enjoy watching how you translate higher math into really cool mechanical tools! It is also refreshing to watch how setbacks only serve to spark even more creativity in your mind... because of Courtney's patient encouragement. Plus I adore little Oliver's captivating smile! 😊❤❤❤🙏
I believe that you should mount some 1-2” nylon blade guides to keep the blades off the gravel by a little bit to help save your gravel. I agree with another comment here too, put on a couple of pulley loops to slow the up and down speed. Great job with this project!
lot of work and money, plus fab skills needed to make I bought a used 1994 Honda 300 4X4 with a 48 inch 15hp blower kit , about 5 years ago for $7500CDN. Got to blow about 0.5 klick of road in northern Ontario. A little hard to start at -25C but it's been very reliable so far with normal maintenance . Not bad for a 30 year old machine. Best thing to avoid most rocks is to grade road before the cold weather comes, I use a box drag
I live in Florida, so no snow here, but it is nice to the snowy scenery. Congratulations on your snowblower project, it works great! Oliver is getting big, soon he will be walking.
I had one of those snowblowers and returned it because the 2 batteries barely completed my driveway with the little snow we’ve had so far this year. Sure you can add a 3rd battery but at $500 for the battery alone and the high cost of the blower itself I’ll stick with gas. It did throw the snow very well and I’ve heard Toro also has a 10Ah battery now so battery life will be better. My new gas blower will work in a power outage and it takes a minute to refuel as opposed to several hours to recharge. The main reason I bought the Toro was how quiet it is and working shift work I could use it at 2am and definitely not disturb my neighbors.
Now, we've only talked once. I've been with y'all since the very beginning, or almost. I've watched every video you've produced since you started building the RV. I've watched his ingenuity and her creativity grow, and it has been a pleasure and an honor. Thank you for hours and hours and hours of pleasurable distraction and education, folks. UA-cam was made just for y'all. Hope I get to meet you one day, and shake your hand.
December 2022 (South Ontario, Canada), the news started scare-reporting about a big snow storm coming in a couple days. After watching tiny homes/van life videos for years, I wondered if I could venture into solar power. SO, I bought 1x 100 watt panel, 1x moto master deep cycle battery, 1x 2000 watt pure sine inverter. It worked...it was fun...but no where near powerful enough to power house basic needs. So, I spent a lot of 2023 investing in more panels and more batteries. Currently, i can power the major appliances (fridge, washing machine etc) via solar...mostly during the day.
Once again, you have outdone yourself! But then again, most people don’t have acres to snow to move. And another note, don’t worry about waking the baby. That’s how he learns to adjust to noise! One week before our second son was born we bought our first child, a drum kit. Our second son can sleep through anything now! he’s 21 now!
Riley, since you have a gravel driveway, maybe shorten the "lift chains" for the blowers to hold the front slightly off the ground when they're in the operational position. That way you don't need to worry as much about throwing a rock at Courtney (or a random window/windshield) while you're getting the snow out of the way.
Also thought the same. The blowers could be elevated off the ground just a hair. Pre-tensioning the chains would be easier than building spacers. Another idea is to put a pin on the front of the tire cradle for ease loading/unloading the blowers. Connect all of the wheel cradle fronts to one bar for a single pin operation. Like lowering the back gate of a trailer to drive up the gate as a ramp.
All those rocks! Ouch! They said once the driveway freezes it gets better. However, if you put each blower on the concrete floor and adjust the runners down on each side so you can slip a paint stick between the bottom scraper and the floor, the snowblower won’t eat as many rocks.
@@questionblechoices That works if what you're clearing is quite flat and pretty level. Not so much if there are lots of bumps and ridges. I found that out the hard way when clearing a "racetrack" in the snow for our dogs in the backyard, 3 rather short legged dogs that didn't appreciate having to do their business when the snow was halfway up their sides!
Amazing excited Riley at work, your enthusiasm shines when you have an idea, truly a Genius in my 75 year old eyes. Courtney is so wonderful with her support on Riley’s projects. Awaiting next stage. ❤️💙💙xxx
I'm absolutely loving the new music when you come back from a break or in-between takes !! Awesome job editing!! And as usual love y'all's videos ✌️&❤ from N.C.
Patend it Riley before someone steals the idea.😁😄Love how Oliver smiles that smile when he's on Camera. Noticed you built a garage for youre vehicles to keep them out of the snow, saw the excavator sitting in the snow, and all those cars too!! Run out of space in there?. Thanks for the video Love from UK x x x
The projects that you can come up with when you are located in the wilderness! LOL Keep making these videos they are enlightening! Deo Gratias. Oliver is looking great!
Long time/first time (I think!?) viewer/commenter. This brings back memories... and bad memories. :) As a 2017 Hisun Sector E1 owner, I have a few tidbits you might be interested in. I picked up a plow kit and hooked up a Rammy flail mower to my Sector. First thing I found out is the winch felt anemic lifting the 400lb mower. I discovered the 12v battery that powers the winch was the culprit and swapping it out with a better one solved that issue. If you're having trouble lifting with yours, swap the battery under the driver's butt. Sadly, I could only run the mower for about an hour before the Husun would overheat. I'm going to imagine you won't have that problem since it's winter, but keep an eye on the temp indicator (on the left of the display cluster I think). I've been wanting to replace those Discover batteries as other owners have mentioned they prematurely die and you can't get a warranty off them. We've flipped our odometer on those batteries (1000 miles!) and they don't hold a charge anymore but I'll consider myself lucky we made it that far. I'm super interested in how you'll charge it now that you've swapped chemistries. If you can figure out how to hack the controller, PLEASE let us know! Lastly, though it's been a few years now and I hope it's better, last time we tried to get service for our Sector, 4 of the 5 service centers within 1.5 hours said they won't work with Hisun anymore as they refuse to pay for valid warranty issues. The last place said they'd take me and when I picked it up, they said they're done with them as they ran into the same issue. Fingers crossed they've changed direction and you don't run into that issue. Love the vids and mods you guys are doing!
Looking forward to the battery life while moving forward and blowing wet snow. Great problem solving. Could be an application to medium sized roads and parking lots. Franchise opportunity??? Boone posted he wants to drive ... 😂
Riley you are so clever !!! Love the way you and Courtney work together !!! Wishing you guys all the happiness and success you and your family can handle. I so look forward to your new episodes !!!
I always enjoy your engineering and fabrication. I appreciate that you show your mistakes and obstacles so we can see what really happens when designing something never done before. It's also nice to see how you adapt and problem solve. Also, thanks for highlighting the diesel heater. I have been considering adding one to my cutaway van that I work out of in residential construction.
i just got an EGO 56 v snowblower. it's impressive . i will run about 45 minutes which is enough. we just had about 90 inches here in buffalo in a week . the EGO eats the snow . it was taking full 24 inch deep no problem.
I continually am amazed by your ingenuity and Courtney’s support and willingness for your experimenting to go full course. You folks are a wonderful team. Such a joy to watch
Good morning from Canada, I've been watching your channel for a few years and always enjoyed them, a little hack for the snowblowers not dig into the gravel is to cut slit along a pvc pipe and sliding over the intire length of the cutting edge of the snowblowers
Woweee!! Riley, you’re amazing!! Another fun yet practical tool!! Your modifications are amazing!! On another note, how is Boone doing since his eye surgery? And, I just have to say, little Oliver has the sweetest smile!! Stay warm and safe!🥰 PS…you have so many awesome ideas, I don’t think you need any of ours. 😉
This was an awesome unexpected project. Right up my alley. Keep it up guys and your channel will explode. Hope more subscribers find you in their algorithm.
Nice experiment, but at what cost? 2 blowers, new batteries, what's the cost of the electric sxs? Spending thousands of dollars and it can barely get out of its own way. Seems really impractical.
I love watching you guys push the envelope on available gear. Not only can make your own juice with your arrays, y ou can now use it more and more for transport and cleanup. This is the future. For heat, consider heated jackets and pants, more portable too!
That’s so cool!!! Just a thought- lithium batteries don’t like being too cold, so you could redirect a small amount of the hot air from the diesel heater to keep the batteries at the optimum temp. Brilliant design though. It might not be necessary if the discharge rates from the batteries in use create enough “waste heat” to keep them warm. I assume you’ll charge in the shop, and that the shop stays warm, or else you might need some heating pads to prewarm the batteries before charging. Well done guys!!

Another idea is to add weight to the rear. It will help for traction/counter balance to the added weight on the front. Might also look into wheel weights like they do for lawn tractors when people add snowblowers and plows.
