Thanks so much! Couldn't figure out how the metal spring that SPRUNG out sat in the housing- got it together in 5 mins after that was resolved! Plus, how the cable fit around the outside track on the twist was the other hint I needed. Keep up the great videos!
Thank you so much! I tried to replace the cable in the dark outside after riding home from work. I had no patience and raged when I couldn't figure out how to get the end of the cable out. Was going to have to take it to get fixed and also not be able to ride the rest of the week. After a quick search I found this video and it's all back together now working perfectly ready for tomorrow. The trick was moving the brake lever out of the way! I had to replace a tube last week too. Why do these things all happen around the same time... Now hopefully I get another 18 months without further repairs.
I like it. The main problems I've had repairing bikes I've overcome them by watching your videos. Big thumbs up!👍
Very helpful and clearly understood. Thanks!! This is virtually identical to my vintage Shimano Grip Shift 2 on my old classic Nishiki, and helped me change shift cables after so many years!!!
Many thanks. I took my 600 apart yesterday and I was struggling to reassemble it. This was exactly what I needed to complete the job.
Lifesaver. This is impossible without instructions.
pretty sure the contents of your video was what I was supposed to do, but seeing it was most helpful and confidence boosting!
thanks for taking the time to record and share this.
Thanks, very clear, easy to follow explanation.
Just servicing my sisters old bike - very helpful guide as I couldn’t remember how to get the cables out
Thanks for the vid, I noticed the REI Pondersosa right away. Was working there when that 95 model came out. I wound up buying the step up with the X-Ray Grip shift. Still use them on older builds...
Perfect! Short, factual and quickly explained. It does not get any better than this. I am thrilled.
Thx. OMG, you've saved my life. I was about to explode on tryin to insert the cable without removing their parts. Install the cable directly from its hole and figuring on how the hell can it be go around the shifter itself. Now I know dat I need to disassemble them thx to u. Keep up your awesome guide/job 👍🏼
Thanks for the video!
I was changing the rear shifter cable on my 1997 Trek 850 SHX and was having trouble with how the cable was routed in the grip shifter. In your video you say the cable needs to go around the barrel at least once. That made all of the difference; other videos by others didn’t make that clear.
Nice homer slipers lol
Yes, that did help. Thank you. My head hurt trying to figure out how to pass the cable through this type of shifter. I needed to remove the little triangular cover below and didn't know. Nice tip for removing the grip with alcohol. As for the little piece inside (metal or plastic) I would put some grease around it to hold it in place. The only thing I would ad to this video for novices is how the cable needs to be set (shorter or longer/ lowest or highest gear) before it is secured at the deraileur itself.
Maybe sure you use a plastic safe grease. SRAM Jonnisnot is the proper grease. But you can probably use something like Super Lube.

Thanks for this. The instructions were largely accurate for my SRAM ESP 50 shifter.
Very useful! I changed a cable by moving the brake further into the bar with the gear shift enough so it unclips to keep my grips in place.
Your videos are so clear and easy to understand even to a people who have never done these things. I just watch these because I love 'em!
This video saved my life. Cool
Indispensable! You are the backbone of the internet.

Very helpful , thanks brother ❤️
thanks ,great video
Thank you very much for this great video, I had to replace the cable on my old Specialized which has very similar shifters, I tried it once and it got all bound up, wouldn't shift smoothly, this was exactly what I needed. Great Job!
Any chance you'll do the other side for the front derailleur?
Is there a reason you move the grip instead of just moving the brake?
The other side is similar if not the same.
Cool, exactly right, got them both working now, simple once I saw you do it lol. Thank you very much.
thanks dude very helpful
Thanks! This video is what I want to know.
Very useful presentation. Thank you :-)
Thank you 👍🏿
Thank you !!
Thank you so much
Very usefull tutorial thanks man u helped a lot :D
Grip shifters are the bane of my existence.
I hosed up my Specialied cable replacement until I watched this, then it went together perfectly and works great, don't give up! I found it's easier to move the brake than remove the rubber grip.
ME GUSTAN SUS ZAPATOS ESTAN COMICOS....SALUDOS DESDE COLOMBIA
This video would have saved me 2 hours of tinkering in the cellar if I had seen it before. Damn Gripshift Crap!
I love your slippers
Thank you, very very mach!!!
Grazie mi hai aiutato veramente.
I have a falcon 3 speed hub. The shifter needs replacing. My issue is, that both ends of my cable have an inline lead barrel. The lead barrel unclips from the grip shifter through a slot. What replacement shifter will allow this, can be a thumb shifter ?
Cool. Thanx. Nice shoes ;-)
RJ, I'm tuning up an old Trek 850 for my dad, and it has SRAM SRT-400-71 grip shifters. On these 400s, the little triangular piece (that unscrews on the one in your vid @2:25) doesn't unscrew. Would it pry out somehow? Great video as always. Thanks for any help.
This video is not the 400. Different grip shift shifters are different. Watch other of my grip shifter videos. And see if I have one like yours.
Like maybe this one. ua-cam.com/video/1V8L08mcRLE/v-deo.html
@@RJTheBikeGuy There you go! Right there between 300 and 600 lol Thanks! You rock 👍
Was wondering what need to be changed from grip shifters to trigger shifters appreciate the video
I am planning to do a video. But pretty much just take off the grip shifters and install the trigger shifters.
RJ The Bike Guy cool I was hoping it was that easy trying slowly upgrade bike thanks for the feedback

Use air compressor to remove grips. Super easy
Thanks, i made it!
Thanks 👍👍
Thank You
Danke / Thank you!

what kind of cable did you use?
Thanks bro...
Would still work if I don't cut the wire or replace it?
