$7 Touchless Drive-Thru Car Wash - Worth It?

  • I recently made a video of a touchless car wash using only my foam cannon, power washer, and leaf blower. In this video, I take it one step further as I take my car to a touchless drive-thru car wash instead. The wash ended up costing $7. As you can see from the video, this would be useful if you have very light dirt on your car. But in my case, it's obviously best to just wash the car. Thanks for watching! just washed my maxima yesterday here in Texas. today i was going to take the dogs to the lake in the jeep but its to cold.
    i wouldnt use these without knowing more information. is it acidic/alkaline would be my main concern. chances are it is.
    still a spotless is better then a autowash.

    I live at the touchless carwash, every Friday for three years,It cleans the car Very well ! ...I have no spider webs showing up in my paint. ... Spray a light cleaner on the wheels before you run it through the car wash and it comes out very well. 👍

    I have a decent touch less wash in my town. Doesn't touch the wheels at all though. Then I take advantage of the light left over water to do a quick spray on wax hand dry. This isn't my normal hand wash routine but I normally do it before a car club cruise.

    If you live in New England and it's winter time, the touchless car wash is worth every penny. Got to keep that salt off. I do the undercarriage and body wash once a week through the entire winter. Then you need to do it early spring because the salt is still on the road until it all washes off. Also today was about 20 degrees. 35 would have been beautiful!

    Just before you pull into the car wash, how about spraying the road grime with a strong vehicle wash like Purple Power? Let it dwell for a few minutes, then proceed with the touchless wash. Might work for the people who don't have a foam cannon and/or power washer. All you would need is an inexpensive pump sprayer.

    I guess I see why the one by my house is $10 compared to your $7. During the drying cycle, the jets pass by the car just like when washing. lol. It did decent on my TBSS after driving from Cleveland, OH back to the Upstate of SC. Got most of the salt, snow, and road grime off.

    The local gas station had both self car washing and touch less wash. I blasted the car with their water gun to get the loose dirt/debris off before I did the proper wash. I was surprised at how much dirt water alone took off & I might have to start doing it that way more often. Plus, it's one of the cheaper car washes where I live.

    PECO's equipment with Neoglide is the way to go for car washes. the neoglide does not absorb dirt or water so the brushes actually fling dirt away from the vehicle. and if you are lucky enough, there are PECO Car washes that offer a wax service that applies the wax by hand then the car is sent through a tunnel with all the brushes being shammy like material that buffs the wax . its the only car wash i take my car through and people cant believe my car is 2 years old

    Everyone just calm down.
    Obviously, no automated car wash is very effective. In fact, some can be damaging to the paint.
    However, if you live in colder climate states with lots of snow, a touchless car wash is welcome...if only to remove some of the road contaminants. And don’t tell me that the soap used will strip the wax. If a couple of passes through a touchless car wax will strip your wax, then you need to get better wax. I’d rather use the touchless to get rid of some of the road salt that’s far more damaging to the paint, than worry about high pH level soap. Ideally, I’d take my car to a hand wash service and/or detailer during the winter but in a pinch, the touchless makes sense.

    Certified Detailer here in Austin. Yes those touchless washes strip most if not all your wax. They have to use super aggressive prep soaps, otherwise it barely cleans at all. One thing you can do right after, is use a spray waterless wash, like Wolfgang and then follow up quickly with a spray wax. This will also take away any spotting. Only the last water pass is spot free, so all other water trapped in mirrors or door jambs initially comes out later and streaks. I like Prima hydra max, or Optimum spray waxes.

      TurboTomPlays very true. The only way it'll clean without touching is with very harsh soap. Im a teenage car detailer and the only way I'll use one of these is if I have a free token for one and I'm feeling really lazy. If I do bring a car through one I'll wipe it down with detail spray afterwards.

    Touchless car washes are good if you just washed your car and if you drove it maybe a few miles. Sometimes after it rains and if I rarely drove, I just drive thru them to get the rain off. Sometimes after a 200 mile drive, usually it also works too in case I want a clean car while out of town. I stick to the 1st package “express wash” cheap wash thats like $5-7 then use a detail spray and microfiber towel to dry the car, and usually not much dirt won’t be on my car.

  • @omarjuares2

    If you do decide to use touch less car wash make sure your getting the most out of it. When you first enter the wash go in as slow as you can. There is water being shot up to clean under your car and wheels. More dirt could of came of when you showed the ending results. You went really quick through the first step, basically almost skipping it. The drying part was good but I would of at least dry my window and mirrors before taking off. Also any chrome if you have any.

    I use Crew car wash all the time....maybe twice a month. $10 for a basic wash. Every three months a couple bucks more to add a wax job. The wax is really cheap but does the job. Every six months $3 more to have the underbody done. My only complaint with Crew is that the blow heat never gets the car dry. I always have to dry again by hand to prevent water spots.

    Hey man, good videos. Keep them coming! A few questions though:
    1. Where did you buy your power washer from? Any links to it. What's your experience with it?
    2. I just bought Meguiar's Hyper Wash and the dilution rate is 400:1. Does that mean 1 ounce of the solution needs to be diluted 400 ounces of water? That would be, 30 ml in 12 L of water. Is that correct? Because, when you use the foam cannon, you mix almost 4 ounces of solution to 30 ounces of water.
    3. I have a car wash and was wondering on how save time to the customers waiting. Could I vacuum my car while the suds are working? Any recommendations.

    The problem I have with touchless is that it kind of messes up the sealant on my paint. The beading is not the same as normal. I believe is the foam they spray.

    • @harris8390
      @harris8390 7 років тому +2

      detailgirl 7 Yeah, I've been told touchless carwash soaps are a little more aggressive, which inturn breaks down dirt better, but at the expense of any sort of protection you already have on the car (waxes & sealants). To me, the compromise isn't worth it, and have reverted back to washing the car myself 2 bucket method.

      @Terrathrax 7 років тому

      Agree, but like in the video - if it's too cold? I'm in CT and that's why I'm trying to get more info on the touchless around here. I really just want one with a monthly plan, just for the winter. Can't find one yet though...

      Terrathrax yeah, I understand. Are you familiar with a Rinseless wash? I hear a lot of people go with that method in winter. I've tested myself CarPro Echo2 and it is great, specially if you have some sort of sealant/coating with SiO2. Leaves the surface very slick to the touch even on unprotected cars.

    I frequently visited Chevron's touchless car washes, but at this point I'm on the fence about touchless carwashes in general. Sure they're outstanding because they have a 0% chance of swirls, but now the grapevine is telling me the chemicals in their soaps prematurely break down wax & sealants. If that's true, that's a major redflag for me.

    • @harris8390
      @harris8390 7 років тому

      Ferral Singer Nailed it... if claying the car, applying waxes & sealants, didnt take so damn long it would be worth the compromise to me. But sealants can last multiple months. And to me it would be shame to shorten that lifespan.

    in Germany, there are a lot of porsches, mercs, bmws, and audis that go through friction washes and don't have swirl marks. that's a myth. the technology and materials have gotten better.
    other than speed, hand washing with a mitt or sponge is not that different from soft cloth. they both use friction.
    I agree, in a pinch when we can't wash by hand these aren't so bad.

    Expensive. Can go to a coin wash for less and get all the dirt off.

      It's a stock BRZ steering wheel, pretty small actually. The position of the wide angle lens is the illusion you're seeing.

      It's decently fat, the wide angle lens does blow it up though.

    How can you get away with driving with not front plate man?

    • @TexasRevving
      @TexasRevving  7 років тому

      Every 4,000 or so miles I get a warning. It's a dumb law, everyone knows it. Every bordering state to Texas doesn't require it so it's not really heavily enforced here.
