I know I'm 5 months late to this but she died of AIDS. The initial reports of her death sort of white-washed the reason of her death because they were afraid AIDS would ruin her memory, but now it's pretty well known. If there's more to her tragic story I don't know about it. Fantastic singer, and her work with the Sisters of Mercy was some of their best work.
