No offense to Adam, but his dreams boil down to: - Make a Playstation like handheld - Make more live service games - Make a Hero Shooter It makes it seem like he wants Nintendo to revive Concord lol
I don't get Adam at all, lol, but I like the guy. And yeah his dreams for Nintendo is to be a little bit more Play Station, that just feel wrong, get me? is not why we are here for personally think, Smash spin-off SHOOT BROS be a hero shooter live server, feels like a bad joke almost. but yeah to each their own, Just Adam please stop saying you don't care about smash, we know. hugs to you both, you]re awesome
One correction, Nintendo isn't completely adverse to performance differences between Handheld and docked mode. Bowser's Fury is a famous example. 30fps in Handheld, 60fps docked.
I had a dream Nintendo had a huge physical reveal for the switch 2 at a Starbucks, and the only game revealed was a remake of super Mario 64 called “super Mario cafe” and the reveal of a console, which was just a circle. I love dreams
I think Eldin Ring on switch is more likely to happen than not. It’s a PS4 game. A game that would be more surprising is Baldur’s Gate 3 - that’s a Skyrim moment. That doesn’t have last gen versions, so it would be more of a surprise.
I want streetpass back, too. Hard to imagine it being the same with a handheld that isn't very pocketable though 😓 Also yes achievements would rule. It would be cool if they added them to some already released games as a reason to go back, too
Maybe not the most popular idea, but I feel a Pokémon Warriors game would really capture the best of the both of those franchises. There’s really a lot that could be done there.
Hello! Yes, I do know about that. I am pretty sure I even talk about that directly in this very video. I explain that, without needing to power a screen off a battery, a docked switch is able to boost performance and this often appears in the form of a higher resolution. But if we engage with the actual point at large here I think you will see where I am coming from. Adam's point was that he wanted a substantial and specific boost to performance across the board by playing docked games-if he meant he wants this to be just like how it is on Switch 1 it wouldn't be part of this conversation. So, I think what we are talking about here actually is this idea of Nintendo giving such a boost to docked performance that they literally go out of their way to make that clear. Could I see such a drastic performance increase in docked that it's transformative to the games you are playing? How would they go about messaging that? That is the conversation we are having. I am not trying to make an example of you or this comment, but I do wonder why in gaming spaces people are so excited to run into a room and shout "BUT ACTUALLY!!!" all the time, as if to demonstrate some higher level of authority or expertise.
Yeah, so my point is that I think if you described a platform fighter to someone before Smash they would say, "well, that's not a fighting game!" The same way that if you described BotW to a Zelda fan they would have said, "That's not a Zelda game!" Or Mario 64 to a Mario fan they would say, "That's not a Mario game!" But then, it is! They stick the landing! They re-invent the genre in a way that people didn't have the creative vision to see before. a 2D Mario game, a Mario game like 3D world, and a Mario game like Odyssey are all Mario games. Smash has more inexorable qualities than "exists on a 2D plane."
I too have wanted a more story driven Pokémon game with a more dynamic battle system. I think the best way to make that work though would be to give up the 'catch em all' aspect of the main games. Certain Pokémon would join you through story events which would allow the battles to be more in depth as well as enable each Pokémon to more directly contribute to the plot.
Adam's a master of persuasion because the moment I hear "hero shooter", I immediately check out. But I wanted to hear him out! After hearing all the details, now I'm a believer of "Super Shoot Bros." 😆 And Jake! YOU'RE SPEAKING TO MY SOUL ABOUT AN ACTION RPG POKEMON GAME! I've gotten so tired of decades of the same ol' "choose attack and watch" gameplay. For years, I've wanted to be able to actually dodge attacks. Pokemon's combat needs to evolve (pun not intended), and I think more player involvement in battle would help!
GPU in the dock to boost the power and upgrade to dock pro in the middle of the generation to keep up with the tech. If we ignore the handheld feature...the we have been playing the same performance-ish since the Wii U.
The 3D Smash Bros. battle royal or shooter or action combat RPG or Pokemon Elden Ring all sound incredible! A bit too good to be true...but we can DREAM! (By the way, I love the Mario & Luigi: Dream Team music. Very on-theme, haha.)
Adam's got me dreaming about ergonomics. I forgot how painfully cramped my hands would get while playing Hollow Knight. Ergonomics is a must-have for sure. Great choice of background music here. Dream Team was my first M&L game!
51:00 Jake took the words out of my mouth. I love the Souls games' dark, dismal settings, but I think leaning into the bright whimsy of Zelda's world could make for a really cool change of pace for Fromsoft
There is nothing I would hate more than live service smash. Splatoon adding the catalogues didn't make it feel like I got bonuses for playing the game more, it just made it feel like I was missing out if I played any other game, and really killed the fun I had. That said it would 1000% work and be incredibly successful.
So you want them to treat Mario kart the same way they do Smash Bros with the character releases but courses, it will build hype and keep people playing the game for far longer.
I think smash should just changw all of the current characters that havent had a move set change to characters whove had the same moveset for the past like 20 years Like make samus control how she does in dread, that would be really cool!!
You know, I think the Live Service model would work for Nintendo's multiplayer games. (Smash, Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Pokemon). Smash basically already did it that way with having the 2 Fighters Passes. They all kind of approached it in a similar way this gen and I think it would be feasible to lean into it next gen. I don't think it would be a good idea for Nintendo to try to make a new IP into a live service game or to convert its single player games into live service games arbitrarily, but it would work for multiplayer.
I see the vision of 3D smash bros but… why not call that a new IP? Because calling it smash bros would probably alienate the fanbase and a lot of people would still want a proper competitive smash game. While a 3D smash should probably be more casual and item luck base experience
id love a 3d smash bros game, but its too risky without breaking what makes smash fun, what about local multiplayer? spacing? seeing where the opponent get launched , edgeguarding , doing dragdowns and all that. a battle royal sounds horrible tbh
Yeah no offense to Adam...but I think I hated all of his suggestions? Like somehow not a single one I think was a good idea, sorry. (And thankfully I don't think they will pursue most of those)
No offense to Adam, but his dreams boil down to:

Please feel free to send more offense to Adam as long as it's not directed at ME
You're forgetting Selden Ring
Live service games suck. They wont even be playable in about 5 years.

How is that 3D Smash idea supposed to be played in local multiplayer ?
Um did you ever play Power Stone???
One correction, Nintendo isn't completely adverse to performance differences between Handheld and docked mode. Bowser's Fury is a famous example. 30fps in Handheld, 60fps docked.
Bowser’s WHAT, now?

11:30 The original switch dock already does that.

Also want achievements. That would be dope.

Yes! Would love to see this on Switch 2 once we get that lil power bump
Off topic: I saw your Twitter/X post Congratulations on your marriage!!!
You know the existing Switch has a boost in docked mode right? :)

@@JakeSteinberg No problem. I see what you mean:)
I’m not too sure about making Smash 3D, it’d be like making Street Fighter into something more like Tekken. That’s not really what Smash is.
Before Smash, people would have said the same thing about platform fighters! Innovation is always gonna sound crazy until it works.

with the syncro machine being a thing in the blueberry academy dlc, i could see a game where you control the pokemon being possible.
