    For anyone interested, here are the improvements I would make: You have greenhouse film on the outside of the roof, I would add that on the inside, as well. The winter low-roof would be the third layer, but you can add a fourth layer a few inches or centimeters below or above the existing winter low-roof. Stainless steel sheets are about $10 for a square meter, and I would get a few dozen and coat them with polyurethane as a varnish/lacquer, and optionally with spray-bottle mirror gloss (before the polyurethane), so they don't rust (even stainless steel rusts, just slower), then I would use wooden or metal supports to get the metal sheet mirrors to reflect sunlight onto the greenhouse. Plus6Zoones or even Plus8Zoness greenhouse are achievable.

    • @HumanWisdom
      @HumanWisdom  7 місяців тому +2

      Ventilation is essential in any greenhouse! In our barn-converted greenhouse, we had large openings (windows) at the HIGHEST level of the two end walls, AND other windows at the LOWEST level of the side walls. We opened and closed the side windows in springtime as needed according to the outside day and night temperatures, and we kept all windows open during the summer, for good ventilation based on the chimney effect. We were watering once or twice a week during the summer, and never in winter time when all the fruit trees and grapevines were dormant.

    • @HumanWisdom

      I am very glad to hear about your green project! I think the 'key' element for your greenhouse in a 'hot region' is adequate ventilation - which you can create by installing LARGE windows at the HIGHEST level possible (ideally directly on the roof) - which will allow the hot air to go out easily, AND ALSO at the LOWEST level - so outside air can come in and compensate the slightly negative air pressure created in the greenhouse by the hot air going out.
      In case your region may also lack some rainwater, you could also consider burying some old branches in the earth walls - which will store some precious humidity through the hugelkulture principle. I wish you best success and enjoyment of your project!

My next videos will present exactly what I mentioned at the end of the second video...
      As you can imagine, if I was looking for investors these videos would have been presented on a crowdfunding platform, not on UA-cam...

I have achieved the results that you now can see after 9 years of intense experimental work, of building and testing 7 experimental greenhouses of various sizes and construction solutions... Last year, all the bigger trees around prevented them from having much sun so they only survived... It's definitely time to relocate at least half of the trees into another greenhouse... :)
      Most of our trees are self-pollinating. Last year I also bought some bumblebees, but the air draft of the natural ventilation does most of the job. Honeybees would need much more space and flowers to survive, so not quite adaptable for this indoor environment.

      Thank you! Before expressing an opinion I would have a few questions and would ideally need a few pictures inside and outside of your greenhouse... I think this communication may be a bit easier by email. If you agree, here is my email address: hw@humanwisdom.ca
      Here are some of my questions:
      1. What is the MINIMUM winter temperature in your region?
      2. Does your greenhouse have any heat accumulator, like earth berms, water barrels, etc. or insulated walls?
      3. What are the dimensions of your greenhouse and how it is oriented (North-South or East-West)?
      4. I do not really understand why your greenhouse does not have any sun in December and January, but you do have in February...

      Fellow swede here to , hopefully, clarify the “no light until February “. Sweden is a narrow but “long and tall” country. With just about the upper third of the country within the polar circle ⭕️. I, myself, live in the zone almost in between the lower third and the middle third. Giving me, at the lowest, 3 hours of sunlight and 2 hours of dawn/dusk. Approximately.
      Above/within the circle ⭕️, during winter time, they indeed have no “real sun” until February. They have dusk/dawn, until the sun finally climbs above the horizon again. (And for a month in the summer, the sun doesn’t go down fully.) we love our summers dearly, whenever it doesn’t just rain. 😊

      Thank you! Most of our trees are grafted on (semi)dwarf rootstocks, which also makes the trees more precocious, but I also prune them each year - once at the end of winter and once during the summer.
      One of the main objectives so far in this experimental fruit greenhouse has been to see how the trees and vines will adapt to this indoor environment and produce fruits... That is why I have planted about 3-4 times more trees than I should have in this greenhouse space... As now this experimental stage is over, I will remove and relocate a good number of the trees. Then I will apply a few pruning techniques that I have selected - as they differ substantially from cherries, to apricots, to peaches etc. I will share all these aspects as soon as I will apply these techniques.

      The barn-converted greenhouse is about 3500 sf (approx 34' x 105'). This was an 'experimental' greenhouse (not a 'production' greenhouse), and as such, we planted as many trees as possible so to see how each one of them would adapt and produce fruits in that indoor environment. For a fruit production greenhouse, the optimum average distance between trees could be around 8 feet.
      I tried some avocado plants in our climate zone 5 in the experimental greenhouse presented in this other video, and I think with some improvements, that would be feasible:

      Unul dintre prietenii noștri de pe UA-cam ne-a sugerat să amplasăm un stup în peretele serei cu 2 trape: una pe care o putem deschide spre seră când pomii sunt în floare și una pe care o vom deschide spre exterior pentru tot restul sezonului cald.

It didn't say absolutely ANYTHING about how to build an environmental greenhouse. It didn't give a hint on how to pollinate the trees. The images are not showing the greenhouse itself at all so we can't "steal" the idea. So what is the message? How much for the detailed plans of building it? I have to imagine underground even in Arizona it is 60%s or so. In the winter if the vines die back great and just remove the shade cloth. Maybe? I live in Idaho and we get 100% temps for good stints too and going 6 feet under....so to speak does help a tone in cooling and good old shade trees that drop their leaves in fall to allow light in. That way it is just dig a big whole and only have to pay for a roof. Aren't bricks cheap there, just something to hold the dirt walls up so you can put the vertical planters.

Most of the semi-dwarf trees I’ve looked at say that they need a spacing of 15 feet. I noticed that the trees in your videos look to be a lot closer. What spacing are you using?

      I am very glad to hear about your interest in growing fruit trees in a greenhouse. Our barn-converted greenhouse was an 'experimental' project, not a 'production' one - where I planted as many fruit trees I could find, so to see how each one of them would adapt to the indoor environment and if they would produce fruits... Based on our experience, I would say, the 'optimum' average distance between fruit trees in a greenhouse would be about 8 feet. The (semi)dwarf rootstocks that we had were Gisela for cherry trees, Krymsk for most stone fruits, and B9 and M9 for apple trees.
      I wish you best success and enjoyment of your green project!

    What are the dimensions of your greenhouse? Are you using Geothermal heat?

    • @HumanWisdom
      @HumanWisdom  4 роки тому +1

      This greenhouse has about 3500sf (approx. 35 x 100 feet) and does not have underground geothermal pipes. One reason for that is the cost. The other one is that I prefer to have an almost total independence from electricity - which at times may stop, usually during tougher weather conditions, so when we would need it the most... Thank you for your note!

    This has been what I would love to achieve. I one greenhouse before made of glass and aluminum. But I didn’t have enough stable foundation and the greenhouse need to be rebuilt because it started tilting after 2 years. Wood will rot fairly quickly in a humid environment I would think, I am wondering how have yours been coping after a few years?

    • @HumanWisdom
      @HumanWisdom  4 роки тому

      You are absolutely right, the greenhouse foundation has to be strong enough and the structure has to be well reinforced against strong winds. Wood structure can rot if it touches the earth, if it is kept in water, or if humidity level is excessive and for a long time - a good ventilation can address that. Our greenhouse is an experimental model, which I converted from an old barn 4 years ago and so far so good.

      You might want to build with unistrut. Each "beam" had a live load of 1200lbs, and only cost $1 per foot. I built my greenhouse with it (on my channel).

    I wonder if this kind of greenhouse can be used to grow these wonderful fruit trees here in Mongolia?. We have very cold winter months reaching -20c during the day and -30c in the night.

    • @HumanWisdom
      @HumanWisdom  Рік тому +1

      I have no doubt that with a greenhouse that has earth-berm walls and double plastic for the roof and ceiling, you can grow any temperate-climate fruit trees (which go dormant in wintertime), like we did in our barn-converted greenhouse shown in this video:
      ua-cam.com/video/lnmpeYFBm54/v-deo.html
      I wish you best success and enjoyment of your fresh organic fruits!

      i believe so, the only thing is to get it fully insulated, below 5 feet from the top soil so u can gather the earths heat in winter and cold air in summer...check geothermal greenhouses...
