Fun fact, your printer also prints micro dots whenever you print something. That's why one of your toners always empties first and you can't print black and white when there's a missing colour :)
You can.. just set the print job to black & white (printer/page settings after you press Print).... They don't mean to stop you, the printer just waits on your specification & assumes all inputs = all colors so it returns with.. not ready. But if you tell it, oh it's just one color (black), it'll accept your print job.

This essentially means that to discover the hidden text, you would have to either examine the entire original document millimeter-by-millimeter, or scan the document at EXTREMELY high resolutions to make copies, which a large team can search through multiple people at a time. Both discovery techniques are still very infeasible to do even today because of the massive amount of computer memory and processing power (plus man-power) required for every single document, especially considering that there will typically be one document out of hundreds or thousands to search through.
