His wooden, Japanese sauna design, pretty much eliminates any natural light, or storage options for clothes. The mattress execution is a hard fail, without major revisions.

Rich, i'm a pretty new sub only recently joined when y'all started ICE T, trust me when i say i VASTLY prefer seeing the entire process in over 10 episodes instead of a short 30 minutes. Love seeing detailed content, best part of youtube imo.

I still can't get over how nice this van is coming out. This might be one of the cleanest van builds I've ever seen. Who the hell woulda thought Rich and the crew were capable of making something this nice.

I honestly don't know who would think these guys couldn't pull this off.
@@toddclancy5237 He probably means that the table/bed is built in a way that it's not going to be able to properly hold up the weight with the edges of the table not being wide enough to support the side panels. without widening and additional reinforcement it's going to sag over time and it's going to become a safety issue. The ottoman idea is clever though as it pulls double duty saving valuable space.
I also enjoy removing the protective plastic cover off of my mattress, then immediately push it around a garage floor 🙃
Don't worry that floor is clean enough to eat a stroopwafel off of 🐵

This build is the best argument for the permanent, raised bed, under bed garage arrangement. It's a hotly debated subject in vanlife circles. Is the big table and bench setup, worth the compromised bed and mattress. that needs to be assembled each night? Also, a permanent bed allows for lots of storage underneath.
I know Stevon and Rich like to imagine Leenda without any clothes, but where can she store anything in this build?

Exactly. I believe Rich capped the potential and practicality for cheapness and eye candy. Extremely compromised the build with the lack of bed frame and storage. Horrible benches that are great storage but not actually benches you could comfortably use as a "home" setting. Not one comfortable seat in the rear of the vehicle🤯
I was thinking the same thing. There won't be much storage and honestly assembling the bed each night or any time you want to take a nap seems like a pain.
I agree. Those bench seats will rarely get used and is a waste of space. I would have used the entire rear section like they used to do in those old custom vans for a nice permanent bed with storage underneath it for clothes or whatever.

Don't know who's complaining about how many episodes in the series. If it were up to me, make it a 20-part series and show the actual plumbing and soldering.
You need to put in window latches to hold the drawers and cabinet doors shut when flying down the road and taking the turns on 2 wheels or driving through cobble stone streets in Philly or just driving in Jersey

Simple tip on enjoying a stropewaafle (that is more like you should pronounce it) is put the wafel on top of a hot coffee or tea for say one minute before eating it.
I'm so glad strup waffles are becoming mainstream in the US. Total Wine sells them, if you have that store near you. One of my friends worked in Holland when i was a kid, so i've been getting strup waffles for about 20 years, and trying to convince everyone who would listen to order them online. they really are the best sugary treat ever made, from any country. They only get better if you set the waffle over a hot cup of coffee and let the steam warm the waffle up.

Here I Australia, they’ve turned your idea into a business.They buy old vans recon the bad bits and then refit them, not quite to your standard, but suitable for two people to live “off the grid” some for recreation, but some people sell up everything and this becomes their permanent homes.
It would be interesting if you kept a total of everything including the ban, what it actually cost vs: buying new, very, very expensive here. Love the show, great group of guys.
Rich, do NOT apologize for the van build videos. I love them. I love this channel because you constantly make videos featuring unique builds and actually show how you're doing them. They're not overly long or in-depth, but enough to let us see what you guys are doing, and of course, chock full of Uncle Rich's humor that we all love. I'm more than happy to get another van build video in between V8 Tesla videos. Or whatever the hell else you want to upload.

Werd! They HAVE to build one for themselves, especially with the new electric vans being created. I think Electrified Garage can make that a good business.
I'm sure Steven can design some Eg, mass produced items that they can sell to interested consumers. They just need to price the tooling cost and forecast if they can amortize whatever they create. They can sell hardware like they sell simple merch.
They can design hinges, pumps, solar arrays, etc., with their logo and mass produce them. I hope Eg scales up with actual product DYI people can use based on their builds. They have a great business that can expand.
They should try the air compressor idea as a boost for electric cars; create an aftermarket kit that acts as turbo.

Van builds like this are so cool, giving me lots of ideas for a future project I think for the seat / bed conversion I am just going to use a sofa bed, best of both worlds and I’m no wood worker!

Just a warning from someone who worked in plumbing. S traps are illegal in most situations due its habit of becoming a greedy cup and spreading poisonous flammable methanol gasses into the living space from the sewage if you don't install a vent higher than the highest drain.
My best suggestion in this tight space is to take one of the Cs in the S trap ant instead install a T pipe, then run it out the side of the van.
Another way to do it in case you have more room and plan to put in a blackwater/greywater tank for the sink like I hope you are is running a separate pipe from the tank inlet to the side of the van.
These both will eliminate the suction that the S traps tend to create and stop it from creating a greedy cup. This will work under both the tank and non tank circumstances, and is legal in most states for any living spaces.
In the case of the states that don't want S traps period, best plan is to create a P trap that goes to the wall directly, vent outward and run down to the tank/draining location.

Very true on how those build shows work. A friend used to work on one and he'd always joke that the host would be filmed turning a screw or something. They would cut away and then the whole crew would come out that would actually do all the work! Lol

I actually don't want one off 10 minute project videos. I like the details and multiple part videos in which you show the process. That's one of the main reasons why i love this channel.

That S trap needs an inspection/drain plug on the first turn. Much easier & cleaner to empty a full sink. I have know idea why they're still making those types.

The ultimate is the PF Waterworks, Permaflow, clear P-trap.
S-traps are banned in most codes now because it turns out they act as siphons when too much water goes down the drain at once. Then it's basically the same as no trap at all.

Go to a ship chandler and get locking handles for those drawers so the don't fly open every time you hang a right..you can get really nice buttons that are flush until you press them to open the drawer..
