Hi Linda, I'm new to your channel. This was a great reading month! I've heard so many good things about Adorning the Dark. And I must get to Rembrandt is in the Wind!
I used to be a Victoria Holt fan back in my early adult years, so long ago. I discovered some of her books on Audible and had to reread them. It was a trip down memory lane. I liked most of them but the last one I read, The Devil on Horseback, irritated me. The others were fine and I may read more if I come across them.
Maybe you're the one who told me about Adorning the Dark! When I went to Audible to find it I also found Rembrandt in the Wind. I'm so glad I got them both!
The biography of Paul was eye opening for me. It made me understand his life better, rather than knowing him just as a writer of New Testament letters.
I'm going to start writing down the books that I finish reading. I've never done that. I hope that I can remember the ones for this year. Nice video. I enjoyed it. -James
The lists at the end are ones I keep at Goodreads on a private thread in the group called "2024 Reading Challenge." I'm the only one who posts there and I keep all my reading notes for the year. Every book I read is reviewed on Goodreads and the links go to my reviews. I really liked your review of 1776 - you remembered so much more than I did.
I feel like I need to read Old Yeller... I know it's sad but it's a classic... Definitely have to be a mood read for me. Glad to hear you are getting help with the lawn... Praise God for these men helping. ❤
No Ms Linda! You haven't seen the movie!? The cover of the book you posted is from the movie. The movie is great but sad. I guess like the book. It's an old Disney movie from the early 1960s?
I really must start reading Memoirs. I want to expand the genres I read but always stay in my safe zone with Christian fiction. Memoirs always intimidate me a little. I’ve tried some Christian non-fiction but most of what I try seems to be ‘forgettable.’ You have intrigued me though with the book about Paul. 📚😊
Memoirs can be a mixed bag - you never know what you'll find. The book I read last month, Adorning the Dark, was a series of memoirs written by a Christian musician. I can recommend that one.
I know what you mean about forgettable Christian nonfiction! I have a hard time with that too but I hope good ideas rub off and somehow stay in me though I can no longer identify or verbalize them.
I keep meaning to reread Desert Solitaire. I read it in my 20s and found it quite informative and learned a lot about my part of the country. Edward Abbey can really rant though! I’m curious to revisit this and see what I think now.
I keep looking at your channel for new videos! Maybe I should watch the old ones I haven't seen yet. I respected Edward Abbey's ability to write - the style was very impressive! But his personality was a bit over-much. I love that he described Utah - such a beautiful state!!!! I last drove through there in 2017 and I wish I could go back.
I’m hoping to make a few videos soon. We have some elderly family members that require help sometimes and, hence, my more recent disappearances. I have been reading though and should have plenty to talk about!
@@Eldertalk One of my favorite trips of all time was a visit to Zion National Park. It was so stunning! I believe we went in 2018; just before the Park seemed to become extremely popular and overly crowded. We stayed long enough that I got to do a ton of hiking and I am so glad that I will forever have those memories.
Yes! I consider Old Yeller a western! Those two books I read on art and creativity from a Christian perspective were very good. I found them both on Audible.
Old Yeller is a keeper, but it definitely is a heart stabber. =( When I read Lust for Life about Van Gogh, I was very surprised to read how many of the artists of that time period were marxists. (elitists marxists of course) Pray without ceasing. =)
I haven't read anything about Marxism yet, regarding the artists. Now I'm curious to know more. When I read a biography of Jack London (I think that was last year or the year before) I found out he was an avid Socialist!
@@Eldertalk Oh wow. I didn't know that. I don't think I've read any Jack London, but I think my brother has. I'll have to ask Prometheus if he's read Jack London. Thank you for sharing.
Maybe it is an Oakland thing. I was born in Oakland and lived there in the 1990's. Jack lived there as a youth. I've read a lot of his more famous literature like Call of the Wild, White Fang and others. But from the biography I learned he wrote extensively and most of his writing, I haven't read. In Oakland there's a waterfront commercialized place called Jack London Square. In that there's a cabin said to be the one he lived in, in Alaska, and the original Heinhold's First and Last Chance Saloon is still there with an incredible sloping floor. Jack spent time in the saloon as a child. I think he did his homework there. The biography focused on his Socialism and speculated that he could have been bisexual which I thought was rather unnecessary since there's no proof of it.
@@Eldertalk Yes, those are the books my brother has read. I think we own at least one of them, unless I donated them. I did a quick search and he was apparently an atheist to boot. Maybe he became a victim of sodomy while imprisoned? If there's no proof, I'm in agreement, the biography should have left that out or put it in the note section.

Welcome to my channel! I liked Adorning the Dark but I think Rembrandt Is In the Wind was my favorite book of the month.
@@Eldertalk Thank you. 😊
I use to love Victoria Holt I see you had a book finished by her. I've not read anything in years from her...Need to change that. Thanks 🥰

Hi, I just saw your comment on my page and came over to sub to you. It is nice to meet you!!!
Nice to meet you too! Thanks for subscribing! I saw you did one book video. Was it just one?
Nice roundup. Paul sounds like a good read

Thank you. I had more I wanted to add to my review but I try to keep the length of video under 10 minutes.

Old Yeller... really, I do recommend it, but life in Texas in those days was not easy.
@@Eldertalk yeah... I remember crying as a kid when I watched the movie... Sad... So why do I want to read this? Lol
Old Yeller . . . it is a rite of passage! I didn't know there is a movie. Maybe I'll watch it if I can find it online.
Jae, you want to read it because you are a dog lover like myself. I remember crying when I watched the movie. I'm crying now!
