Even your test tapes can pick up moisture especially when stored in cold damp(er) places so a rewind wind cycle on those would do no harm. One last tip is you can buy an invertor that turns 12V into AC and use that to do your basic tests back at your car or ask them to plug into their car. Looking at a minimum of £60 for a bulb if you are lucky. Then no guarantee it will work. We used to have to put cages round them because the bulbs were so valuable. Glad you didn’t pay to much
Another great video. I pick up a lot of video players too (usually from Sadlers) and find about 1 in 4 that have issues and are basically worthless. So I will keep buying them as the profit outweighs a usually small loss. Its just a pain having to dispose of the bad ones. Anyway, do you find that at this point in the season where the weather is so changeable, buying electricals from the early boot sales is not a great idea? I found a vintage Sony CD player one morning last Sunday at Dunton and when examining the item, the top of the machine was soaking wet with condensation. Because of that reason I left it. But later on I passed the same stall, had another look at the same machine and the sun had dried the top off. But because of what I'd seen earlier, the damage inside had probably already been done.
Quick tip I try to use when going to boot sales is take a portable ac outlet (on amazon around 70-80 quid), quickly test the plug if they've nothing to hide no problem
Great video as always! Always a risk buying electricals from boot sales, but you have to judge as best you can in the moment. Guess thats just the risk us resellers have to take.. Keep up the great work!

George I have been buying and selling on and off for around 10 years. I did indeed! They contacted me a few months ago asking for permission to use the footage. Got a nice little bit of pocket money from it too which was nice 😁👍
This happened to me. Bought an xbox 360, luckily there was a free testing generator on site. It had the red ring of doom, took it back, got my money back and when i walked past later on he had put it back out on the table to resell knowing it was faulty. Why be dishonest?

Hi George, just wanted to say thank you for your videos. They are always a great watch and you clearly know your stuff! Just a thought, with the broken/faulty DVD/VHS Combo, if you have no luck, maybe you could get in touch with fellow UA-camr MyMateVince, he would no doubt love to take anything that you can't fix apart! Thanks again, Dan
Great video George. I too often get this (broken electronics), hence why I try to pay as little as possible. Still, with it being a Samsung DVD recorder model, your £15 should be safe with just spares/repair. I'd go £25 + post spares/repair on it.
On the stall selling all digitial cameras £3 I was hoping you would look through the old SLR gear and ask about them as you can pick up some gems if cheap.
To be fair, he didn’t lie. You asked him “if he knows that it works alright ?” and he replies, “yeah of course I do.” Therefore, very cleverly avoiding the question whilst implying it works but he only answered that he knows the answer to that question. He didn’t tell you the answer. (Answer-Inception).
George I hate it when sellers say it’s working and it don’t, or say yer it’s all there how can you possibly know that’s a chance we all take.... if he is there every week then don’t buy from him I’ve done that once bitten twice shy 🍍🍍🍍
Hi George if he is there every week pop it in your boot and return the item "not as described" for a full refund. If he denies any knowledge of selling it to you play him this video as evidence 👍
Unfortunately there are some people who instead of disposing of faulty electronics properly will offload them at a bootsale. They do it simply because it's buyer beware and you can't test it before buying so you've got basically no recourse. I bought a PS2 at a booter just over a month ago and the seller said it worked fine. Got home and tested it and the disc drive was faulty. When buying electronics you just have to pay as little as possible and hope the seller isn't a lying piece of work.
Can you make some money back on the DVD/VHS player by selling it as is for parts or a project for someone? I know that isn’t the point but at least it would be something back 🤷🏼♀️

I would love to buy that lamp link?
i would love it if you took it back hahaha and ask to take some of his big mac sauce on cam . are you releasing a my hermes video btw?
What am i doing wrong i keep walking away with only a few items
You need a small portable power generator, a good one is £150,- to £250,-
I use a Jay-Long portable power generator, 110v / 220v 220Wh, dc 12v 54000mha
This will safe you a lot off 💷💷💷
The guy with the faulty video was far too touchy, red flag!
Did you know your footage was on the center parcs programme last week 😀
I did indeed! They contacted me a few months ago asking for permission to use the footage.
Got a nice little bit of pocket money from it too which was nice 😁👍
I get this ALL the time, par for the course. Luckily I can fix alot if things
Really enjoyed watching thanks for the tip about the trainers. Have a great week.
Still get you money back on that combo unit selling it as spares repairs 👍
This happened to me. Bought an xbox 360, luckily there was a free testing generator on site. It had the red ring of doom, took it back, got my money back and when i walked past later on he had put it back out on the table to resell knowing it was faulty. Why be dishonest?
Amazing having a testing generator on site! Never seen that before. Should be at every carboot
Marlow Bulldog yes it’s so good. I think it deters people from being dishonest usually but this guy just did not give two hoots.
That’s awful!
Great video george thank you for sharing your tips , shame some of your viewers seem to judge you i dont get them !!!! Keep up the the good work for those of us that appreciate the info you share .
Thanks Donna, I seem to attract all the negative nellies 😂
Hi George, just wanted to say thank you for your videos. They are always a great watch and you clearly know your stuff! Just a thought, with the broken/faulty DVD/VHS Combo, if you have no luck, maybe you could get in touch with fellow UA-camr MyMateVince, he would no doubt love to take anything that you can't fix apart! Thanks again, Dan
Thanks so much Dan, will keep him in mind!
Hiya George, Was wondering where you got the trolly from and if you had a link i could use to get myself one?
Great video George. I too often get this (broken electronics), hence why I try to pay as little as possible. Still, with it being a Samsung DVD recorder model, your £15 should be safe with just spares/repair. I'd go £25 + post spares/repair on it.
Why do you keep the trolley covered up?
Atleast you never get that with me George. Honesty the best policy 😚
👍👍😁
Don't trust anyone who sells big Mac sauce lol
Especially when I heard they have a shelf life of like 2 days.
i thought selling faulty electric stuff is against the law at car boots
Here from the Guys Without Jobs Podcast!!
Awesome! Thanks so much. Just finished listening to this week's episode lol
On the stall selling all digitial cameras £3 I was hoping you would look through the old SLR gear and ask about them as you can pick up some gems if cheap.
I was hoping he was gonna say, do £10 for the box of digital cameras
To be fair, he didn’t lie. You asked him “if he knows that it works alright ?” and he replies, “yeah of course I do.” Therefore, very cleverly avoiding the question whilst implying it works but he only answered that he knows the answer to that question. He didn’t tell you the answer. (Answer-Inception).
Where did you get the trolley/cart you use?
The blackout Gro-blinds are brilliant , I picked one up for 3£ in barnardo's a few months ago!
Hey George, nice finds. With the broken DVD player would it be worth breaking it down and selling the parts. Or selling it as spares or repair.
I have a great belief in karma and some day he will do that to the wrong person.
George I hate it when sellers say it’s working and it don’t, or say yer it’s all there how can you possibly know that’s a chance we all take.... if he is there every week then don’t buy from him I’ve done that once bitten twice shy 🍍🍍🍍
You've hardly lost £15 have you really George ?? Lol 😁
Hi George if he is there every week pop it in your boot and return the item "not as described" for a full refund. If he denies any knowledge of selling it to you play him this video as evidence 👍
I personally wouldn't bother about the £15 and chuck the fucking dvd player in his face the next week with that attitude he had!! 🤣
😂
@@RetroReselling 😁
Always enjoy vids!!
I don't understand why people sell items that r not working
Unfortunately there are some people who instead of disposing of faulty electronics properly will offload them at a bootsale. They do it simply because it's buyer beware and you can't test it before buying so you've got basically no recourse. I bought a PS2 at a booter just over a month ago and the seller said it worked fine. Got home and tested it and the disc drive was faulty.
When buying electronics you just have to pay as little as possible and hope the seller isn't a lying piece of work.
Wouldn't bring it if it was faulty mate lol its Delboy and the Russian VHS players again 😂
😂😂
I be taking it back asking for refund name and same
George you walked past so many good cameras!
Any in particular you saw??
Can you make some money back on the DVD/VHS player by selling it as is for parts or a project for someone? I know that isn’t the point but at least it would be something back 🤷🏼♀️
Great video George!
Some decent finds
In hindsight, his unnecessary defensive reaction to such a simple question should have rung alarm bells. Lesson for the next time.
That guy was a prick and wouldn't buy $@#t from him... Love the light you picked up and the vintage shears in original box... Well done mate... Stay safe...👍💕🔥⚾😷
RICHY won't let you down.some blaggers about..makes me sick.🎯💙
Q: Where did you get the cover for your trolley? Looks made for it and I've got the same trolley but no cover
Someone sent me a link to one on eBay, I’ll try to add it to the video description later 👍🏻👍🏻
@@RetroReselling I'd be interested in that link too bud 💸
always a risk with electricals at the boot fair, just got to cut the loses,as long as you make more than you loose,in your case you do well ,so just keep going with your eye for a bargain ,you wouldnt be were you are now if you didnt take that gamble,
I’ve recently bought a vcr/dvd player but can’t test it as it’s a scart connection, anybody recommend a unit that converts scart to hdmi? TIA
you cannot win all the time thats life george
absolutely!
Hi guys! Can anyone give me alternatives to boot sales come winter? Are charity shops any good? I heard they are expensive
Jungle Jim good answer
