Thats so awesome the deer ..seeing right in ur yard to enjoy..sorry to hear about your dog 😢.i just found ur channel so i will probably watch all of them this evening.sorry if i comment alot on them.cool place u have .thanks for sharing
I used to have a sled dog team.and I lost many of my doggies over the years as they grew old.its a very emotional attachment.some people don't get it but I do.hopevyour puppy brought you many awesome times and memories.
Hi Marie! I have been up here for 18 years now. Around the Trenary area. I also retired early and have had the best years of my life up here. Have had my property about 38 years now. I'm on a river which is pretty nice. Lot of hiking area. I had all those roof problems when I got up here also. Up on the roof shoveling and roof raking. Got a metal roof now and it made quite a difference. I wouldn't ever have asphalt shingles again. I really like your videos. Keep them coming. You have a nice place. Take care.
wow, 18 years! thats a long time of dealing with the snow, a metal roof would be nice! I think next winter will be a bit easier when I can have some roof work done and hopefully won't have to be dealing with these ice dams in the future. being on the river sounds lovely! I bet you get to see all kinds of wildlife. thank you for your comment!
@@marieintheUP Hi Again! The metal roof was put on about 10 years ago. Still need more insulation in the attic though here also. Yeah a lot of wildlife on the river. I have seen a lot of water falls up here over the years also. Been to tahquamenon falls a couple times. Nice creek you have there in the woods.
@@SteveLF thanks, I do like the little creek, I can't wait until spring and I can show the waterfalls from the snow melt on my property! there are so many beautiful places here you are right, thats fantastic that you have been to Tahquamenon falls a few times!! it seems there are always projects to do when you have a home.
Thank you for answering work question. I am one who asked that, not that it’s my business, but I consider myself an entrepreneur type personality as well so it’s always interesting how people figure out ways or businesses to make money, especially up there in the U.P. Really enjoy your videos because I love the U.P as well.
hi Bill, you are most welcome! you aren't the only one who asked it, I get asked that a lot and it makes sense that people are curious! that is awesome that you are an entrepreneur, I think it is challenging in the winter in the UP to have a business (if it is weather/tourist reliant) but many people are making it work, I have a feeling its not easy though. but I have ideas! I am glad you enjoy the UP too, its such a special place
Hi Marie! Welcome to Michigan! I live in Northern MI too, but south of the bridge. Regarding all of the plowing...we ended up just recently getting a UTV with a plow attached to plow our driveway. It is heated and is AWESOME!! So something to think about getting if you plan to stay here. I still have to shovel our deck, porch, and trails in the yard for our small dogs. I saw one person mention bringing dog treats with you when you are walking and that is actually a good idea. People up here let their dogs run free (even though there are leash laws in MI) and multiple times I have come upon dogs running at me and barking. One farm near me has 2 German Shepards and they are very scary...one time we got past them when on a walk and then they came in the road and would not let us pass their house to go home, so I had to call my husband to come and pick us up. So for sure I recommend walking with dog bones, mace and a knife. I also carry bear spray if I am walking my dogs with their stroller, I just keep it in the pocket of the stroller and it works on dogs/people too. Anyway, looks like you are conquering the winters up here and are doing a great job!
hi in Northern Mi, those norther towns in the LP are amazing, I love traveling down there. that does sound nice, you UTV that is heated! I am looking at options, i am not sure what I want yet, im looking at an ATV with plow attachment, then I could use the ATV in summer. thank you for the tips!
Hello Marie. I was a caregiver for my Mom for 17 years. She passed this year from Stage 4 pancreatic cancer. She was 92. I had to give up my job at the American embassy in Budapest and return to SWFL. This coming May, I am moving to Delta County/Escanaba area in the U.P. (I never liked FL). I need to live in the quiet and gentle beauty and spirit of the U.P. I admire your perseverance, work ethic and can do attitude. I also admire your love for your parents. Many people do not realize how taking care of elderly parents can be very challenging at times. I applaud you! I wish you and your loved ones good health, peace of mind, prosperity and genuine happiness for the coming New Year. Please take the very best of care.
Do your homework about Da Yoop. It vary's widely from area to area. Its like a entire diverse country within its borders. Even climate is wide and varied with dozens of micro climates within. The diversity of towns is also huge. From tiny backwoods Finlander crossroads to full blown tourist chaos. Take your time, try before you buy and remember da golden two seasons rule........" There are two seasons in Da Yoop........Shovelin and Swattin ! " 😆
@@spudnikkx1112 There is a saying in Florida. Florida has two seasons, hot and hotter! I have spent over a month travelling through out the U.P. I also lived in in SE Michigan for years. I relish the difference between Florida and the U.P. I plan to live off grid. My biggest concerns at this point are the price of propane and DNR management of the natural resources. Your points are valid and much appreciated! Happy New Year!
hi, I am sorry to hear about your mom passing, that must have been a journey where you cared for her for 17 years, she was lucky to have your help and love. Its hard to make career and other changes for our families but worth it, your job in Budapest must have been amazing! I love living overseas. congrats on your move to the UP, Escanaba is a wonderful area, the lake views are great! thank you for your message, it helps me to connect with other caregivers, its no easy thing thats for sure. happy new year to you!! keep me posted on your move, very excited for you!
@@Michigan...Possible I have spent some time all across Florida for decades as both a visitor and a year round resident in Tarpon Springs. I know the story well. Something to consider when thinking off grid Yooper is how far you are from emergency medical services and what would the route be like in da 6 months of winter.
@@marieintheUP Marie, thank you for the kind words and good wishes. I do look so very much forward to moving to the U.P. in May! I had over 10 years in Germany and Hungary. So glad to be able to retire to the U.P. though! Hopefully, I will be able to purchase 20 or more acres and be an hour or so out of Escanaba. Also, I want to be living off the grid as much as possible. I see a great deal of wood processing in my future. Wishing you, your parents, Scruffy and Violet all the best for the 2025!
I like sourdough soup with potatoes, boiled eggs and especially smoked kielbasa. You can get the soup in a pouch, its called "Zurek" :). Closest place near you with some good kielbasa and the soup is Chicago. Polish butcher shops are the best. Last time I was there is when I touched US soil for the first time August 27, 1990, on my way to Alaska. Its been 34 years now, where did the time go. My second favorite is mushroom soup. Potatoes, bacon, inion, mushrooms and a touch of balsamic vinegar
A wonderful journey of life... Open, flexible, fun and smart... Your personality is perfect for UA-cam... And I do believe your next gig/job career has already started... Love the cats and the chili bowl.. 😊✌️
awe thank you :) I need more of your amazing story telling ability though, your videos are captivating! I am wondering if there is something here in yt...thank you, I think my cats are just so cute!
After having lived 'in the bush' for more than 45 years, encountering any sort of wildlife can be disconcerting, and dangerous. I have found that carry a pocket full of dog treats is the best way to avoid confrontation with wildlife. If the wildlife is small it will retreat, but if the wildlife is large, a handful of dog treats thrown on the ground or the snow will change an animal's focus, from you to the dog treats, giving you time to 'move away'. Stay safe.
you carry dog treats and throw the treats at large bears/wolfs/cougars, is that what you are saying? Im sorry but i not going to do that. sounds like a terrible idea
@@marieintheUPAgreed. I don’t like violence and certainly don’t like hurting wildlife, I like the thought of being lunch less. I carry a Glock 20 outdoors. Yes it would take multiple shots with a bear but you have some defense. A cougar is a bit scary they are whisper quiet and very smart, by the time you see them they’ve already been watching you for 5 minutes. Dog treats? 😊
Our hope is not in the new year but in the one who makes all things new. The doors of God will never close for you. Wishing you all the happiness, health, success, glory, peace, prosperity, faith, love and respect in the world. "Happy New Year !”
Cool that you got pictures of the cougar! Fritos in the chili, love it! I'm waiting till the weekend to make some when the cold weather gets here. Happy New Year!!
hi Erik, right, the cougar is so big, its very cool to finally have some pics of it. enjoy your chili this weekend when the temps cool down for ya, happy new year!
hi Jason, great to hear from you! we are, we have had two days of snow now, but its only been around 6 inches, but like you said it is supposed to hit hard this weekend so we will see!!!
As a fellow Michigander. . I absolutely fell into this this channel. And I would like to say bravo to you. I'm doing the same thing you are young lady.
Its so fun that I get to connect with other Michiganders! thank you for watching my videos and for your sweet comment, thank you for the encouragement and i'm going to say the same to you, you are doing an awesome job!
@marieintheUP bravo again. I'm working on land my own. In the snow belt. So I what you are going to be dealing with come February. Just get 2 horses . And preparing winter for them. Can't wait to see more posts from you
I was a caregiver for my Mom and Dad at different times for a total of ten years and it is one of the hardest things you can do. You are definitely one very incredibly, beautiful person, and I understand doing everything by yourself. It is extremely hard work. God bless you!
thank you for saying that, it is extremely hard work, 10 years is a long time to care for parents, I have no doubt they were grateful to you but it is hard, thank you for your comment
Hello marie. Wow that chilli looks good. Best comfort food for the winter months. I eat my chilli the same way fritos and cheese. Awesome! I like your cats, looks like they get along well. My dog rocky is turning 15 next year and he was found on the side of the road in a carboard box. He is a good support dog. I like your garage too. Lots of room for cars and hobbies. Kayaking is a lotta fun to enjoy nature. And a recipe that i love from my grandmother was home made spaghetti. It was the absolute best!!!!!! Love you videos. Have a happy and safe new year and will see ya next year.
hi Joe, isn't chili so comforting, I am glad you agree. they do get along thankfully! Rocky sounds like a wonderful companion, good on your for giving him a home, I know he loves you and knows you saved him! there is a lot of space in the garage for sure. Spaghetti is the best, thank you for sharing! see you next year, cheers to 2025!
aren't cats awesome, I never knew they were so cuddly and smart! I love that you have two as well, are they siblings? how old are they? I am happy you like the videos, thank you for watching and for the kind comment, cheers to 2025!
Thank you for the Q & A, it was a good reflection of who you are. For me I wouldn’t be comfortable discussing any number of topics, in more than generalizations publicly. I could smell that chili with the shredded cheese and Fritos, it is truly food for the soul on a cold winter day. I had to chuckle seeing the exercise equipment in the garage, because as I’m sure you’ve realized, you have moved into one of the most spectacularly beautiful “Gyms” in the upper Midwest. Again best wishes for a Happy, Healthy and fulfilling New Year!
hi Brad! it is hard to talk about certain topics for sure, I appreciate your understanding and that you can relate! isn't it just the best meal on cold day, so good! you are right about the gym equipment, we have a family gym membership too and haven't needed to use that lately. I am in the best shape from dealing with all the snow, you are spot on about the UP being the best "gym"! - Happy new years to you and yours as well!
Great job taking care of family while still being able to semi retire in such a beautiful area of our state Marie! As our older family members age we all should try and look out for them and help as much as we can. I am the youngest of a large family that is slowly getting smaller, so I understand where you are coming from. You helping more than some people are able is something to be proud of and I am sure is greatly appreciated by your family. It always great to see deer out the window. In winter they like to hang out in cedar tree thickets for the browse and to keep warm. This will also bring in predators which are definitely something to watch out for. Especially small pets. Game cameras are great and even the cheap ones are very good these days. A friend bought a security camera that is not cloud linked. (I like that!) It records HD video for 30 days to a laptop and everything over 30 days gets automatically deleted. I don't remember the brand but i think it was a Scandinavian compay and was a couple hundred dollars. I like to cook simple thingsand fish or chicken is a favorite. I make a dry mix of Progresso Italian bread crumbs and parmesan cheese with maybe a bit of pancake flour or corn meal in a 1 gallon zip lock bag. Soak the meat in milk or egg first if you want or you can do without. Put fish chunks in dry mix bag, zip and shake. This works well for oil frying, baking or air fryer. Just tilt the pan in the oven a bit so the water that comes out can drain from the meat. Have a Happy New Year all!
thank you for saying that! I agree, we need to care for our family members, I can't imagine how my family would navigate all the difficulties with health insurance and retirement. I feel so lucky to be able to care for them while also getting to live my dream up here in the UP. I bet that is hard being the youngest (I am the youngest too). good to know about the deer, I was thinking, hmmm is that what the cougar is eating and why it is around right now? I am going to have to try that progresso Italian bread/cheese recipe, I think the fish would be awesome in fish tacos, thanks for your comment, I appreciate you! cheers to the new year!
It’s nice of you to open up about your life. My wife and I visited Sedona once and loved it. I do a lot of cooking but it’s very basic, I’m a very picky eater. A meat and potatoes kinda guy. I love to grill and cook with charcoal. Thankfully my wife is a fantastic cook. I have just a very basic trailcam, it’s a Trail Hawk by Stealth Cam I believe ? It’s a lower end thing, battery operated but it works. We get deer, coyotes and other wildlife. Plus if any nefarious individuals were going to sneak onto my property the wooded area provides the best cover. Also ring doorbells. Ok now I feel comfortable asking you a question. So far has your UA-cam experience been what you imagined ? Happy New Year 🎊
hi! Sedona is one of my favorite places, that is wonderful that you and your wife took a trip there! Grilling is the best and that is even better that your wife is a fantastic cook!! I will look into those stealth cams, thank you for that info. I love that you asked me that question. well, yes and no. I didn't expect many people to watch my videos honestly, I thought that some people may be kind enough to give me advice but not at the level that has happened, I am very thankful for this community, I really am enjoying talking to so many of you, that has been the best surprise of all. The kindness and the support. there have been some negative interactions from some people who comment but the positive far outweighs the bad and that is what i am focusing on. cheers to 2025!!
Caregiving is a very important and necessary job. My niece was a caregiver for my parents until they passed. We have an older trail cam (2019) which needs to be updated. I don’t remember the name brand but it was about $80. We do see some cool wildlife for sure. Haven’t seen a cougar yet but I’m sure one day we will. We live in the woods too a ways out of town. We didn’t have hardly any internet until we purchased Starlink. Now that is some fast internet. ♥️
hi! thank you for that information, starlink is a good idea, i need to look into that. thank you for sharing about your niece being a caregiver for your parents, how sweet of her! happy new year!!
I understand your financial situation all too well. I’m 10 years into the same plan you’re on. I never look back now. Live smart and without excess and you’ll make it just fine!
40 miles outside of Montreal we are getting more frequent sighting of Fishers, some quite large around 15lbs. Since then, I never leave my dogs loose outside at dusk or during the evening. There are too many 'unknowns' in the country at night.
hi, so happy you found my channel, I appreciate your kind comment! I am a caregiver for one of my parents and a sibling, its alot of work but so worth it! hope you are having a wonderful day
Although the season is short, I make a good part of my Yooper income going to auctions\garage sales and reselling on eBay. Great way to explore the culture and beauty while stocking up for winter online sales. Can stay inside in front of my woodstove and PC for most of the snow season. Except for the dreaded snow removal that is.
I have heard good things about reselling on eBay, i have a friend in WA who does that is quite successful, that is a great idea and there are always yard sales and estate sales and thrift stores in the UP, looks of goods to find! the snow removal is a full time job lol
Great life story, though I am from the Midwest, "Go Blue" (though I went to Notre Dame), work and life provided many great opportunities. I've resided in "Cali", Portland and Seattle, Florida as examples, but Michigan has been home. I rehomed a cat, which was a first. I Maine Coon, "Max", he was 35 pds., followed by rehoming a dog, a Miniature Shar Pei, she's the most incredible dog (it took me app. 5 years to do so following the passing of my beloved pet), chili needs a "dash" of sour creme on top, nice garage, just needs heat, and yes, just takes time. Have you seen "Copper Peak" up there in the UP......be safe, and warm...and Happy New Year!
hi Paul, go green :) (though, I went to no schools in MI, but a friend went to MSU and so i still have to support them). Sounds like you have lived all over, that is cool and MI is a great spot to call home. that must have been hard to rehome your fur kiddos, but sometimes it is the only way and good deal they got homes. I haven't seen Copper Peak, but will look it up! happy new year!
We put some solar powered WiFi enabled trail cameras. They work great and they record for about 30 seconds when there is activity, they can be viewed on our laptops or phones
You are a very special very pretty very talented very cute innocent face gorgeous woman.Your all videos are outstanding. You are the best May God bless you with the best ❤❤❤😊😊😊
that is roughing it :) in the bag is classic, Ive never thought to take it camping/backpacking but you are right, that would be a great meal and everything tastes better in a beautiful outdoor setting imo
Nothing wrong with retiring at a younger age than most. I retired at 56 and don't regret it one bit. It's enabled me to spend more time with my family and enjoy the UP outdoors.
that is awesome, hearing how many of you are in the same situation, it makes me feel more connected and less alone in the caregiving stress load, thank you for sharing! cheers to 2025!
I think it's great you are taking time off to enjoy yourself. I retired at 48 and I think what makes a great life are doing things that make great memories. I am 67 now, and I stay busy. You may want to check the building code before you install a wood stove in your garage. I know here in Massachusetts, that's a big "no no".
thank you for sharing, thats awesome you were able to retire at 48, I agree with you about making great memories, that is what makes a great life!! its so weird up here, I am very rural but they do have all kinds of building codes, and they come check, I can't put anything up with them knowing about it. there was a wood stove in the garage before, but the previous owner removed it, I am not sure why, but it could be for building code. I know there are other places in the UP that are more remote and I think there is a lot more leeway there.
I thought that too about the building codes, but found out you need permits for everything. I never knew that was possible. and I am so rural, only like 300 something people in my town.
@@marieintheUP I building permits is how they get their money of course. But having a code that you have to follow is n't always included. I hope you don't have too many restrictions
@@ST-xx9rt I am in a rural part of my state and I have a few friends that have wood stoves in their garage. I have a few garages and thought about doing it myself, however, God forbid, if a car/ snowblower/tractor etc. starts leaking gas in the middle of the night, it's all over. Not only is it against the code, but the insurance co. would frown, so I installed a furnace. I sleep good at night. This is state wide, not by county or city/town. I just looked it up for Michigan, and it's the same. State wide.... no wood stoves in a garage. (NFPA 211) I know some states they are allowed if raised 18" or above, but Michigan is not one of them. In my state, any building with a garage door is included regardless if you park vehicles in it or not.
Thanks for sharing a new video, and happy New Year🎉 I enjoy seeing your two cats. Your pet story is similar to that of mine. Two years ago I lost my Mckenzie. She was in 18 year old Calico. I then adopted my new kitten that February. She looks very similar to your Grey haired kitty 😺 I wish I could attach a photo of Madison.
Hello, my mom used to make chili and cinnamon rolls. They are surprisingly good together. If you worked hard enough to be able to retire, don't apologize. That's a great accomplishment.
hi! hope you are having a wonderful day, its funny, I haven't been telling really anyone in my life that I am retired because I feel guilty because I want everyone to be able to retire early too, but you are right, I am working on feeling proud and not guilty. thank you, I needed your comment, I bet your moms chili and cinnamon rolls were delicious!
Chili is one of my favorite comfort foods in the winter as well. The big question for "Chili" is, beans or no bean? Coming from Arizona, do you make "Texas" chili... no beans? Another of my favorite for the winter is Chicken and Biscuits.😊 FYI, they do make extra long life batteries, Lithium I think, that work better in trail cams.
ohh that is the big question! always beans, I have to have beans and i add corn and carrots which I think some wouldn't like but i love it, are you a beans or no beans chili? you are right about the lithium, I have an 8 pack of those so i am going to test that out to see how long the trail cam can run off it. chicken and biscuits is a good comfort meal!
@@marieintheUP I've tried making the Texas chili, but my preference is with bean. Adding extra veggies sounds interesting. Adding extra nutrition can never hurt. I load up the chic & biscuits with a frozen mix corn, carrots, green bean & peas.
TRAIL CAMS, We have a lot of wild life on our property We have deer, geese, bird feeders and all the ground animals like squirrels chipmunks and rabbits. We also have coyoties but we only here them and see prints. I considered putting up trail cams but I figured that there are so many channels of trail cams I could just pull them up. But I don't have a YT channel. We do have a beaver and everything that goes along with was marshy areas.
beavers are so cool! I don't think I have any of those in my yard but I do have, cougar, gray wolf, coyote, all the little animals, turkey, deer, black bear ect, no moose though thankfully. I want to see which animals actually frequent my yard but trail cameras are not my area of expertise so I am still searching for the right ones to use.
Jalapenos and a dollop of sour cream...😊😊yummy! Chili is my favorite, although I make mine a little less watery than yours appears. Try it with a little yellow mustard in it. You might be surprised how it adds to the flavor.
mustard is a must I am learning, anytime i make something and it's missing something, I add mustard and it fixes it! good advice there. sour cream is a good addition too! thanks for sharing how you make yours!
I am in a similar situation. I am a care giver to the extent that I to alot of the work that my parents can no longer do. Luckily they can take care of their own personal needs. I do most of the cooking and a lot of the cleaning. The dogs are a big commitment for me. My pittie had two Seizures last night so I was up most of the night just making sure he was okay.
that must be so scary when your pittie has seizures, that is so good you can be there to support him but that can't be easy on you either. thank you for sharing your caregiving situation, it is hard work being a caregiver, worth it though!! happy new year!

Chilli on a chilly day yummy! I got tired of replacing batteries and SD cards in the trail cams. I bought solar WiFi security cameras (60 bucks Amazon) I also have a usb battery backup on my router and modem..😃
I was wondering if security cameras would be a better idea, we don't get much sun in the winter here but maybe I could find one with a good rechargeable battery, i just think the cold temps will drain it. are you in a sunny area?
I live in the northeast and my solar cameras stay charged ok. I don't have cell service at my house and rely on Wi-Fi calling also. I recommend getting the battery backup for router and modem in case the power goes out you will have cell service. Do you take a vitamin D supplement? Up here in the north we don't get nuff sun! Sorry if I'm being nosey..sometimes I go into grandpa mode😃
I make a very spicy chili, so you can use the cheese to tone down the spice some. Also I make a thinker chili, and I get Frito s scoops and eat the chili like a dip. The most important thing is that you take care of yourself, and your family. As long as everyone is healthy and happy, that is what matters. As far as the trail camera is concerned, I am of no help with that. I would just suggest that you don't buy anything real expensive, because I don't think it is necessary.
hi Bill, that sounds really nice, using the scoops and chili as a dip, I will have to try that. I like a lot of spice in my chili too! thank you for your kind comment about what matters :) you are so right! I agree, i don't think there is much benefit in buying anything too expensive, its just for fun so im hoping to find something inexpensive that works decent.
I was a care giver for 16 yrs 24/7 and married/together just shy of 40 yrs. She is gone now and only a few months. I get it being a care giver can be tough one. Take care of yourself and enjoy.
thank you for sharing that with us, I can imagine that must have been rewarding but also not without its challenges, it is hard to take care of loved ones, thank you for the kind comment!
Oh boy, I miss my black cat. Ozzy was my "shop cat" and loved to be up on my work bench messing with me while I worked. An ever present companion. I don't put anything extra in my chili, but I have to eat some good Italian bread with it and a big glass of milk! Your chili looked quite delicious. 😊
Italian bread would have been the perfect addition, maybe even toasted with some butter and garlic! ozzy sounds like a good companion!! cheers to 2025!
Happy new year from NH hanging out in Mt Washington Valley for a few days getting some snow this morning. Have a great 1st day of 2025 to you and your family.🌲👋
Hi Marie, You spoke about your own business. While cooking chili you talked about your cats. You are a regular UA-camr (consistent video's). You should consider "merk's"... Sell merchandise pertaining to your channel. For instance: baseball caps, winter caps, coffee cups, calendars. Use photos of your homestead. You, your cats, squirrels/birds in/on your trees. You could run wild with creativity for merk's.
I love this idea, I take lots of pictures of the log cabin and of course my cats and lake superior, a calendar, coffee mugs, vinyl stickers ect, that would all be a great thing, I appreciate your comment! I haven't made plans to monetize my channel but if it keeps growing I wouldn't be opposed to it, thank you for watching!
Tactacam cellular cameras - they are 100-200$ they have verizon/att compatibility. You can get a solar panel model, I use at my cottage, keeps it powered year round. What general area of the UP are you located?
@@marieintheUP they also work without using the cellular feature - you would need to retrieve the pictures manually. I graduated college from the Soo (Go Lakers)
Hi, thx for another video :) We finally got some snow here today, maybe an inch so far... Sorry for the loss of your dog, we lost our two dogs (Bond 2 years ago and Bauer 1 year ago) and it still hurts, they were 10 and 13 years old (chinese creasted dog) But now we have two new ones, Neo and Mikki they are two years old now. One thing i find strange in America is that you missing cellular connection in alot of places, sure its a large contry but still... We had it like that maybe 15-20 years ago. Well...have a great new year and i hope i will try out my "new" snow thrower tomorrow :) Happy New Year All !!!!
hi, thank you for watching another video! you got some snow!! yea! keep me posted, that is exciting! thank you for saying that, losing him was so hard, you are right, about how it still hurts, I'm sorry for the loss of your two dogs too, exciting you have Neo and mikki now! it is weird that there are lots of no cell spots in the US, Im not sure the reason but it helps me to remember the old ways of using a map if I get lost, but I don't like it haha. happy new year to you, let me know how your new snow thrower does!
@@marieintheUP hello again. WE got snow last night!!!! and i got to finally use my snow blower :) We got maybe 2 dm of snow (7-8 inches) do you have somewhere i can send pictures or instagram, twitter, facebook?
IF you have AC power, you can install a wifi extender between your router and camera. Or put your router near the window and see how far your smart phone can reach it using a Google browser. If you run an extension cord out to an extender that far, you can probably have wifi connectivity twice that distance.
Hello they are a cellular camera along with not needing to use the cellular part. I know you said that cellular is an issue in your area!…….. you can use AT&T or Verizon and the lowest monthly payment I believe is $5.00 a month if you choose to go cellular. I hope this all helps? Pictures are able to go to your phone
HI, If I understand what you are saying, I can use a trail cam that has a cellular plan, because all I need to get the pictures from it, is to have a att cell phone? if so that is awesome, thanks!
The reveal Tactacam cameras are cellular able and you can choose AT&T or Verizon which ever gets a better signal in your area but you don’t need to have your cell provider to be either of those companies. You wouldn’t need to use the cellular part it’s there if you choose to purchase a monthly plan to have the camera pictures sent to your phone without going to the camera all the time to see what the pictures are. But if you prefer to go to the camera to remove the SD card then you don’t need to use the cellular capability. I hope I explained this better for you? Have a Great day😊
UPM: Your subscriber count keeps rising and well over 100 comments on this video. Not bad for a little house work this time and answering viewers questions and the deer were a bonus at the end. HNYM 🎆
Not sure what the Michigan DNR stance is now but it used to be that cougars weren't in the UP at all. We all knew it was bogus, but I'm glad you're aware of them!
:) hi, thanks again for the help with the drone questions I had! yeah I guess the DNR says that there is a pretty healthy cougar population in the UP but there aren't a ton of photo evidence so its really cool we got some pictures! normally we just find the tracks
@marieintheUP any time. I have 2 drones I'm looking to sell but it's a bit out of your price range. But there's a lot to learn, most people don't realize. Enjoy your chili, I'm a horrible cook, but I'm trying my hand at brisket!
@@JJDrones I bet your brisket will turn out well!! I am realizing there is a lot to learn and understand about drones now that you have given me great information!
Being a caregiver IS a job. If its for elderly with needs it can be quite a demanding job. I became the sole caregiver for my dad and stepmom when they hit their mid 90's. They were living in denial and fadeing fast. They were in the early stages of dementia and alzheimers. It was a big fight at first. I survived it until about a year later their needs were far beyond what I could provide. Mom had to go into 24/7 memory care unit of assisted living, and obviously dad couldnt be left by himself, so I had to move him into a small senior apartment next to the assisted living building. They both lived several years more and I visited alot and helped see that dad was kept good. It was a constant and HUGE undertaking with never ending set backs. It would have been far, FAR easier to work a demanding full time 40 hour week paid job ! So never feel odd about not " being employed " while being a care giver. Its possibly the hardest job you will ever do. As for cats, I agree. They are very low maintenance compared to dogs and can be great companion's in their own way. I had a brother and sister pair like your black cat at one point. They were part of a litter that appeared behind my junkpile out when I lived in Montana. Boo Boo the male loved snow and could hunt mice even in over a foot deep snow. He would catch 2 or 3 per outing. He would follow me around the property when I was doing snow management for hours. Try that roof slicer out next chance you get. You may find you like it. Just dont do it while standing on a ladder. It can knock you off easily at times. BTW......... Happy Yooper New Year ! Be safe.
Happy Yooper New Year to you too (its my first)! thank you for sharing your experience as a caregiver, I know that had to be such a difficult decision to make for your mom and you made major life changes by stepping up and helping them through each step. I needed to hear your comment about not feeling odd about not being employed, it is difficult because I lived my career for so long, it was my identity in a way and sometimes I am sad that I don't have a fulfilling career anymore, but it is worth it to make sure my family is taken care of. You get it :) love that youy had cats too, boo boo sounds like he was pretty amazing!
@@marieintheUP You simply have a new and very challenging career being a caregiver. In my opinion, its simply the right thing to do for loved ones in need.. There may come a time you cant handle the needs and load, and thats another step in the process. Dont be afraid or ashamed to ask for help. Many caregivers wait far too long to admit its beyond there wheelhouse at some point. You risk serious personal well being by not seeking help and assistance if its more than you can handle. Be satisfied knowing you stepped up and did what you could till it was just no longer feasable. Its just part of lifes journey. Boo Boo was mighty unique by domestic house cat standards. Mighta been since he was a orphan from the western rocky mountains or somethin. The whole litter was goofy ! I have had cats for about 60 years and each one was different. I was literally raised by a silly little calico when I was born. Mimi lived to be allmost 20. She would attack strangers that came near my crib when I was a baby !
I wanted to answer some of the common questions I see in the comments, Let me know if there is anything else you want to know, feel free to share any favorite recipes, memories, thank you for being such a great community of encouragement and support!
Sitting here with a cup of coffee before I start my day, and your channel popped up on my feed. You are adorable and I enjoy your videos. There is something I find soothing about them, not sure what. 🙂 What is U.P.? I've never heard that before. I'm in Northern Oregon, taking a walk down by the river yesterday there is Cougar sighting notifications everywhere but then seeing Elk, Dear, Beavers etc. and even White Swans is becoming increasingly more common.
@@chaingliderreddup4222 I am happy you find my videos soothing! the UP is the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, its connected to the lower part of Michigan by the Might Mac bridge, its a different world up here. Oregon is sooo beautiful, you are in a good spot, thats awesome you have a lot of the same animals there too!
I’m contemplating leaving my job of 18 years for something that is more fulfilling. I really want to start my own business. I would love to open a small country convenience store . Stocking as much local produce and products I can find. I live close to a very popular tourist town, especially in the summer months. Your chili looks delicious. I enjoy making chicken and biscuits, New England clam chowder as well in the winter.
I say go for it! I would love to buy local from a small store in the area, that would be awesome! it is hard to make the leap but it sounds like you have a good plan!! thank you, the chili turned out well, chicken and biscuits sounds good as does clam chowder!!
@@johnteachout610 you are so right, its just the fear, but humans are pretty amazing and like you said, its hard to get over that fear part, but once you do, that change is the best!!keep me posted on local store, I would shop there!
I 'retired' after graduating highschool; meaning I only worked enough to take time off. I supported three kids and their stay-at-home mom. The trick is to live below your means and not spend money on unnecessary things. If I did buy something, it had to have value and durability. Now I am nearly 70, and have personally owned 200 various vehicles, have a bank account, live on city acreage, own a 3 year old car, and still feel retired. I will start collecting pensions in 2025. More money! yippee.
I'm on my 6th adopted dog as I look for the older not adopted ones. Are you ATT? I'm ATT, neighbor Verizon and ATT comes in while Verizon needs a repeater. Could you post a Vegetable Soup recipe?
hi Dan, that is fantastic that you adopt older unadopted dogs, that is such a good way to help dogs!! I do have Att, but no service, I have to drive about 4 miles to get any cell service, but I have fiber internet/wifi calling and it works well. to clarify, would you like me to share a veg soup recipe in a video where I show how to make it or you want a good veg soup recipe, in a comment here?
Your making all that You Tube money! Right? I retired early at 48 years old after starting a heating and air company when I was in my early 20's I live off of my investments and rental income
I think your willingness to take on winter hardships is awesome. You are a breath of fresh air
your comment made me smile, thank you!

I love the sound of that soup, I am going to have to look into finding some, it sounds delicious!
Nice garage with lots of possibilities. More and more Cougar sightings and throughout the year now. They’re expanding their range.
hi~ it is so interesting, I have a lot of respect for cougars, i just hope to never see one in person lol
Dog treats? 😊

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

40 miles outside of Montreal we are getting more frequent sighting of Fishers, some quite large around 15lbs. Since then, I never leave my dogs loose outside at dusk or during the evening. There are too many 'unknowns' in the country at night.

My 2 cats are brother and sister. Currently 14 years old and seem in good health. They are good friends for sure!
thats awesome, it makes such a difference that they have each other too, thank you for sharing!

The up most likely has no building code whatsoever. And many places are unincorporated unless you're in an actual City
thank you for sharing, thats awesome you were able to retire at 48, I agree with you about making great memories, that is what makes a great life!! its so weird up here, I am very rural but they do have all kinds of building codes, and they come check, I can't put anything up with them knowing about it. there was a wood stove in the garage before, but the previous owner removed it, I am not sure why, but it could be for building code.
Thanks for sharing a new video, and happy New Year🎉
I enjoy seeing your two cats. Your pet story is similar to that of mine. Two years ago I lost my Mckenzie. She was in 18 year old Calico. I then adopted my new kitten that February. She looks very similar to your Grey haired kitty 😺 I wish I could attach a photo of Madison.
I am sorry to hear about Mckenzie, I bet she was sweet! congrats on the new kitten Madison! very cool she looks like my Violet! happy new year to you!
Wow very nice my dear friend 🙋🏻♀️❤️

Can't Say a Thing But Let The Good Time's Roll. 😎👍👌✌
Coming from Arizona, do you make "Texas" chili... no beans? Another of my favorite for the winter is Chicken and Biscuits.😊
FYI, they do make extra long life batteries, Lithium I think, that work better in trail cams.
ohh that is the big question! always beans, I have to have beans and i add corn and carrots which I think some wouldn't like but i love it, are you a beans or no beans chili? you are right about the lithium, I have an 8 pack of those so i am going to test that out to see how long the trail cam can run off it. chicken and biscuits is a good comfort meal!
Reveal Tactacam cameras are what I use
going to check that brand out, thank you!
@@marieintheUP My mother is wonderful and a joy to be with. My father is very difficult, very critical. My father and I tolerate each other but it is very difficult. He treats me like I am a teenager and I am almost 60. I also have a lot of like experience good and bad as we all do at this age.

The best treatment is to just lay on top of him and keep him as still as I can so he does not get injured. He is so sweet.

Cornbread goes great with chili!!😋😋
it sure does! a few weeks ago I made red lobster cheddar bay biscuits and that was good with the chili but cornbread would be even better
Hi Marie,
You spoke about your own business.
A cool sticker with your UA-cam name at a minimum.
@@jeffcady284 yes, and maybe my cute cats on it, and the log cabin, I think that is a pretty scene
Tactacam cellular cameras - they are 100-200$ they have verizon/att compatibility. You can get a solar panel model, I use at my cottage, keeps it powered year round. What general area of the UP are you located?

One thing i find strange in America is that you missing cellular connection in alot of places, sure its a large contry but still...

IF you have AC power, you can install a wifi extender between your router and camera. Or put your router near the window and see how far your smart phone can reach it using a Google browser. If you run an extension cord out to an extender that far, you can probably have wifi connectivity twice that distance.
I love when people think outside the box, what a great idea, thank you for sharing this idea!
@@marieintheUP A lot of us have already done this installing our outdoor cameras.
