    I am a complete beginner and must have watched your video about 10 times already. I have created an imperfect perfect dishcloth. There's a few glitchy stitches, some odd edges and couldn't love my dishcloth more. Thank you for your clear close-ups and explanation, you've inspired me to continue on crocheting. You're an excellent instructor.

      Tell me what the border and sides are doing that you are not happy with? That will help me know what you’re trying to do. It may be just going to a size smaller hook to do your border. How many stitches are you doing in your corners?

    • @Marciaz
      @Marciaz 17 днів тому

      @TheCraftyYarnBarn 👋 hi, 3 stitches per corner. It's just the border on the sides looks uneven. Some go down further into the wash cloth and some are closer to the edge and some are farther apart than others. It's so hard to tell how to place them as opposed to the top and bottom where it's obvious. Without the border the sides are so pretty. I made some without a border as well. Maybe I just need to pay more attention to my hook placement. 😁

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  15 днів тому

      For single crochet- on sides you should have same number of single crochet stitches as you have rows. Then 3 in corner. Try that on your next one. Tell me how it goes after that. I want to help you. Look forward to hearing back how it works by doing that.

    Hi Nancy Ellen, I sure did learn a few new things, I didn't know that at the end after the last stitch is made to turn 1st. I always chain one then turn and I also did not know that I was suppose to go into that stitch 1 that I did after turning. Again I always chain the amt. Is this technique to be done on any project? If I am suppose to chain a certain amt. plus say 3 do I do the same thing as you did and go into that chain I guess that would be the 1st out of the 3 after turning. So thank you so much. You are very talented. I want to learn more I think I might have mentioned before, I know the basics Thank You Jesus, but you are showing some interesting things. I guess I am so far behind the times LOL. I dont even do Facebook. I want to go through some of your videos and see how you do things as soon as I can, I do a yarn Ministry and I have made so many blankets, basically just DC that I am BORED! LOL,,,,,I so want to branch out I know there would be a lot of other things that could be done if I could read a pattern and make some other things other than SC, DC, HDC,TR, I know these are needed, but would like to mix them up together or something instead of the same things over and over. I am doing a baby blanket with bulky yarn and I changed it to HDC and I seem to not be able to finish it with so many things I have to do other than crochet. Maybe I can make myself slow down and just crochet for a day and watch your videos. Thank you so very much. Again, you are very talented. Your finished products are beautiful and you make it seem so easy. I would like to make this little new baby girl a pair of booties, but again the pattern thing, I do better by watching. I am so blessed with a lot of Crochet Books. I have them but cant read them Ha Ha! God Bless You and Thank you so much. Your work is so nice.

      Thank you for your message. I enjoyed reading and hearing from you. I am going to respond hopefully to all your questions and comments. I hope I don’t miss anything.
      - Some patters call for chain then turn and others turn then change. I wouldn’t necessarily say one is right or wrong.
      - You should always add additional chains for your turning chain if there is a specific pattern you are following or wanting a specific length / width. If you are doing a basic stitch into every foundation chain then adding additional chains for a turning chain will not matter. Hope that makes sense.
      -I love that your part of a yarn ministry. My church does that as well. But they incorporate sewing and quilting as well. Blankets for babies whether it’s crochet, knitting, quilting, etc. Out of all the things I have made I have only kept one afghan. Everything else has been given as gifts or donated. People have questions on videos sometimes and I think I should keep what I make so I can later go back and reference the project. Oh well😂 several people have even gotten angry with their comments.
      - I get bored as well. I usually have 4 projects going at once. Stop and work on this one, jump to that one….it takes me so long to get one done since I jump around. Even have a quilt going.
      -Maybe I can help with pattern reading. I will think of a video idea to help teach pattern reading. Maybe that would help. Lots of people are visual learners. That’s why video tutorials are so popular.
      - There are so many things you can do with the 4 basic stitches: chain, sc, hdc, dc. Possibilities are endless. I hate treble crochet by the way. As you notice I didn’t even mention it. 😂 did you know that overlay mosaic crochet is all done with chain, sc and dc? Look up pictures of mosaic crochet. I am in love with it. I hope to make video soon. I want to get better at it first. It’s beautiful!!!
      -HDC is my favorite stitch of the basic stitches. Not sure why.
      - I have never made booties. I have a book as well but never used it because it seems too tedious. LOL and I have 4 other projects going. I need to slow down too.
      Thank you for your compliments. It makes me want to keep making videos to help people learn. I enjoy making the beginners videos so maybe more people will want to learn to crochet and see it’s something they could easily do.
      Have a wonderfully blessed day. I appreciate your encouragement.
      - Nancy Ellen

      @@TheCraftyYarnBarn Hi Nancy Ellen, thank you for replying to my very lengthy text. I really need to learn the short version of words, till then autobiographies are ok LOL..
      Any how, thank you for the information. I am anxious to go over and look at the mosaic crochet you mentioned. Thank you for that also. Learning by watching seems to be my thing as you mentioned visual learning. Maybe sometime I can watch a video and look at a pattern at the same time , that may help. I really enjoy crocheting, I just get tired of the same old things. Sometimes I want to try and do my own thing with the basics, but with my luck I might like it and then forget what I did LOL....
      You mentioned that people have gotten angry with their comments. That's silly. Crochet and hobbies are for fun, can a person mess up and forget and get frustrated? Absolutely, but it is a hobby not putting a car back together LOL! So you just keep right on and do what you feel is the right thing to say and do in a video or comment and know that I am sure that you have more people for you than against you. You seem extremely patient and explain a video very well and what more could a person ask for, so please just keep doing what you are doing. Your honestly so nice and very talented. God Blessed you with a talent and you are sharing your talents 1 of many to share with others, so you are a blessing to me and many others. Have 1 question. A lady at church likes the Sunshine, I want to make her a blanket as she also has some health problems as most of us all do.
      My question is the other day I found 2 skeins of Bernat Brights 2 yellow and 2 Orange. I thought about trying so many rows of one color then go to the other etc.....Then I thought about breaking it up and do some in one color so far down and maybe stop anywhere in the chain and start the other color and go so far with that color and then anywhere in the working chain switch again to the other. Do you think this might be ok? Also, was not sure on how many chains to start I could guess like I always have even or odd numbers but was right back to thinking oh no another DC LOL. I thought maybe you might be able to direct me to a specific tutorial to watch you or any other ideas? Thank you so much and I was wondering I clicked on your videos icon and just a few came up. Is there some other key I should hit that would bring up more? Ok, you have been so kind in reading all this mess of mine haha. Im getting ready to watch you easy washcloth tutorial I think I watched it before, but I will watch it again. I'm sure I can learn even more from you.
      You take care and know that someone thinks your very talented and kind and special Jesus and myself. God Bless you Nancy Ellen. hopefully I will be texting you again if that's ok? Also thank you for all the tips you texted. Thank you so much, Your very kind.

      Hi Ms. Mary, I have the perfect video for you to make a blanket with that yarn. The video is name as a baby blanket but you can keep crocheting to make it bigger as a throw for an adult. It’s the Endless Granny Rectangle. It crochets up so quickly. I think you will enjoy making it. When you talked about the colors, I could imagine making it with 1 or 2 rounds of one color then switching back to the other color for 1 to 2 rounds. It would be pretty. Let me know what you think after looking at that video.

      I am so so sorry. I had only half double crochet tutorial in that playlist. You can make your foundation chain as long as you want for your project. Decide how big you are wanting to make ( wash cloth, scarf, blanket, etc). Then for row 1 you put your first double crochet (US) into 3rd chain from the hook. Then each turning chain you will chain 3. Keep in mind this is double crochet (US) and not UK. If you need UK instructions, let me know.

    I have tried to do this project multiple times. The sides are never easy to stitch a border into as they are not even stitches like the rows! When I try to sew in my yarn tails, you can always see where I've sewn them in. This is getting frustrating! Not sure what I am doing wrong. Help?

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  2 роки тому

      When you sew the tails follow the direction of the stitching that is there and then it will look like it’s part of the stitch and it camouflages. If you don’t follow the stitches then it can be seen.
      As for the the border put a single crochet into the row and not the space. There is another video I did on dishcloths that may help you. I think I did a better job of teaching how to do borders.

      There are the instructions shown in the comment section of the video.
      Instructions for the Project
      Single Crochet (SC) in the US is referred to as Double Crochet (DC) in the UK.
      Foundation Chain is 31 chains + 1 turning chain (totaling 32 chains). Put a SC into the 2nd chain from the hook, SC into every foundation chain (totaling 31 single crochet), turn your work, chain 1, put a SC into the last SC on row 1 and in every stitch on row 1, repeat for a total of 34 rows, fasten off your work.
      Sew in your tails. If you wish to add a single crochet edging, then attach your yarn to any stitch on the last row using a slip stitch, chain 1, single crochet into each stitch on the edge until you reach the corner, put 3 SC into each corner stitch. When you make the turn to the side of the project put 1 SC into each row. Single crochet edging around the project, slip stitch once you reach the first stitch of the border around, and fasten off your work. Sew in your tails.

      I believe you aren’t going to like my answer. This is a simple pattern meant to help people learn to crochet. I believe it would be hard to sell these for more than just a couple of dollars a piece because of simplicity. You aren’t going to make much more than what it costs for yarn. You aren’t going to get paid for time spent. That’s my opinion. Someone else may have different thoughts.

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  2 роки тому

      Check out my most recent video. It has a different pattern. If I was going to sell them I would switch yarn to Lions Brand 24/7. It gives a more polished look. You may do better at selling those and sell in bundle of two or three. Look at website crochetpreneur.com and it has good article for pricing your crochet projects.

    Why does it curl

    • @TheCraftyYarnBarn
      @TheCraftyYarnBarn  Рік тому

      Could be several reason. One you are crocheting your stitches tightly. My suggest is relax your hands and don’t hold tension so tight on the yarn.
      It could be that your crochet hook size you using needs to be adjusted because it’s too tight if a stitch.
      It could simply be that you are only a couple rows into the project and it will start laying flat as you crochet more rows.
