Thanks for doing this. These insights are valuable for those of us just getting started with Necrons. Love your content, and I'm glad to see your channel growing.
honestly, that's a wise choice for a newbie :))) When I first entered 8th Edition, I just only played with my old Start Collecting force (plus a Monolith and 1 Warriors box and 1 Immortals box) before the Codex came out, after that the decision to expand my army just popped up.
i think rites of reanimation might be the new addition to reanimation protocols. id imagine it being like the orb but you can use it in any turn to try and save a unit that would oterwise die.
@@andrevanas85 I hope so. I was planning to play Szeras in my crusade list. He is not particularly good at the moment but he is by far the most beautiful model. Maybe he will be usable in the next codex until then i just have the coolest characters on the table. And even if I always lose, it's worth it to me
If you look at the reanimator it says that it adds plus-one to the reanimation until your next command phase. I was wondering why it lasted an entire turn and with this leak or a typo maybe it’s because you can reanimate mid turn now if you have the right models or war gear?!! Overlord Nick please give us your thoughts on this!!!!
You can never go wrong with the Necron fast attack choices (wraiths, tomb blades, old destroyers). They all have great abilities that will aid the army.
I am actually experimenting with a dual doom scythe list Being able to leave the board and come back on wherever I want, sounds like an excellent way to try to be in the best spot for either concentrating firepower or sniping around the edges if you can get your opponent to concentrate somewhere else
Why not three scythes? If the stratagem stays the same in that it requires 3 doom scythes to work, surely you'd be better off giving yourself that option? Just a thought.
@@masterofthejuice9981 Mostly because the focus of the present force is dual wraith and destroyer squads, with Indomitus Overlord giving the wraiths a turn 1 speed boost and My Will Be Done. :)
Glad to see this. Just getting into the hobby and got two halves of necrons from indomitus need to start building a full army from that. That said I am getting a box of Lychguard because they look cool. Also I would say that if Destroyers and Tomb Blades are all equal I would recommend destroyers as there is some indication that the Skorpekh Lord may be able to benefit them and we have one of those Lord's in the box.
Solid list of items. I'm starting my Necrons with Indomitus and am reasonably certain I'm going to build a less than optimal army as time goes on mostly because I go by rule of cool and what can I use in Kill Team as well. Triarch Praetorians- I love the lore behind these guys and their models are very cool too. Plus they're the fastest non-HQ unit Necrons can take in KT. I'm not sure if you've ever gone into detail what you think about Praetorians, I've recently found your channel and been watching a lot but still have a lot of videos to get through. Deathmarks- Pure rule of cool. Form over function. They're probably one of the least noteworthy infantry options, but I love the damn things. Lokhust Destroyers (whenever we see them come out) Night Scythes because I'm a sucker for any form of transport that can be vaguely described as a dropship. Just wish the pilot wasn't exposed. It's the one part of that aesthetic I dislike. Tomb Blades, both for speed and because I want to try my hand at converting them to look less like robot skeletons on alien jetbikes and more like creepy HR Giger death angels.
What to get after Indomitus? 1. Immortals - This will let you build battalion lists (third troop selection, if you run them with two squads of ten Warriors), and they are a bit sturdier with some good weapon options. You probably want two boxes of them, honestly. 2. Cryptek - Unless you plan to use your Plasmancer as a proxy, you'll need one of these guys. The buff to Reanimation Protocols and its wargear options (Chronometron / Canoptek Cloak) are basic necessities - I'd say they are much more useful than the Plasmancer's abilities. The Canoptek Reanimator is no substitute (and should probably never leave your shelf, barring some ability and stats update, or if you are just looking to try something new). 3. Doomsday Ark - This is your anti-armor unit - good range, power, armor penetration and durability. I'd recommend a couple of these, actually, especially if you are seeing a lot of tanks on the table. As a more expensive alternative, both in money and points, get a whole Destroyer cult (destroyers & heavy destroyers) - though it's probably better to wait and see what comes up with the Lokhust Destroyers. From what I've seen so far, the Canoptek Doomstalker is kinda terrible - shorter range on its main gun, less durable (fewer wounds, less toughness, no living metal or quantum shielding), doesn't fly, no gauss flayer array for shorter range shooting, etc. - but it will look good on the shelf next to the Reanimator. 4. Wraiths / Tomb Blades - Fast units to help with getting objectives and harassing enemy units from unexpected angles. Wraiths are more durable and pretty capable in melee, but a bit more expensive to field. Tomb Blades are faster and much more shooty. I doubt any of these units will be seeing big changes, so they are pretty safe bets. After that, it's mostly up to your play style, but probably wise to wait for the new codex and unit releases. If your plastic addiction is more demanding, a Deceiver with a blob of Lychguard can be fun to drop into the middle of the table at the start of the game. Triarch Stalkers are good support units and pack a decent punch of their own. Or, just double down on the Warriors - nothing wrong with fielding a few twenty-man squads, and very thematic, too...
I think I prefer the Heat Ray on the Triarch Stalker, using the units flexible range and movement has it fit right in with the hustle of Wraiths, and destroyers.
Definitely prefer your list to theirs! Personally I’m not buying anything else until after the new codex, I’ve got other stuff to focus on in the meantime & I’m not in a rush. 2021 will be the year of my Necrons awakening from their tomb! Look forward to your post-codex advice!
I think the lychgaurd are a good choice if you plan going novock. Put them up front then put your skorpeck lord and cryptek in the mix and skorpeck near by to get the buffs. Go full death star
Thank you. You probably saved me a few buck here. I already bought the Pariah book and the model thinking it would benefit me in my new Necron army. I actually have two Indomitus boxes so think I am good on the troop side of the things. Maybe one or two Ghost arks will do fine for the time being
I've been deciding on how to assemble a new 2000pt Necron army for almost a year now, currently sitting on a partially painted old Szeras, Doom Ark, and a stack of unopened Immortals. Those add to a handful of Immortals, Deathmarks, Flayed Ones, Lychguard, Praetorians, and an Overlord from my kill team roster. Then, I'm splitting a made to order Indomitus box that I still don't know the 9th ed point values for. While trying not to grouch too much about my "new" Necron Codex and Psychic Awakening Pariah that no longer serve a purpose, I remain stuck a few more months until they finally announce the new Necrons. Kind of a bummer when I could be spending my time building the army ahead of time...
Rites of Reanimation looks to be a teaser for the new codex rules for sure. A quick check on some forums and they tend to agree than we are seeing some interesting new rules teasers. The other one for the Supreme Command Detachment for example mentioning Supreme Commander keywords which we don't have either (Expect The Silent King to have it?). How do the warriors in the Ghost Ark measure up to the new Warrior models? Do they just look "wrong" now?
Yeah I bet the King will have it. They Warriors seem fine to me, most are battered in the Ghost Ark as they have picked up the bodies from the battle field
Well without the new rules for our necrons I’m not sure how anyone can say for sure what to get next. But personally if you are new to an army buy/play what you like first to get used to it and maybe fill your army out after you have a good feel for it.. that being said I just subscribed and would live an indomitus box. 😄
The Triarch Stalker is going to be absolutely lethal in melee distance with the aid of the Heat ray in 9th edition. Although normally you wouldn't want your vehicles within melee distance the Triarch Stalker is an exception, as it also possesses a decent melee weapon. With the Heat raise Dispersed profile, which is really just an overqualified flamethrower, it's most likely going to melt anything which comes within melee distance, especially if the Triarch Stalker gains access to the Dynasty keyword. :3 (Heat ray weapon profile. When attacking with this weapon, choose one of the profiles below. - Dispersed 8" Heavy 2D6 S5 AP-1 1 Damage When you use this profile, this weapon automatically hits its target. - Focused 24" Heavy 2 S8 AP-4 D6 Damage When you use this profile, if the target is within half range, roll two dice when inflicting damage with it and discard the lowest result.)
Another great vid Nick thanks, i just finished buying my first 750pts of Necrons wihich was 12 tomb blades a CCB and a large contingent of scarabs, I think a Stalker will be my next purchase as i look to get to 1000pts, then i will wait for 9th
This article obviously written by marketing team to boost sales, Nick you need to do top 10 (or 11) units that synergy with necron from indomitus crusade
I’m a new necron player and wanted to be careful with new purchases and then went wild and bought an annihilation barge and a tomb stalker! Wanted to get some fun units. Thanks for the advice I think I’ll get immortals next!
I think immortals are the safest bet here, propably with gauss since there are no mentions about tesla yet. As you said, we don't know how good some units will be until the codex drops so patience might be they key here. I still think your top 5 is much better anyways. 😊 Good video
I play Sautekh and I think gauss will be the way to go for my dynasty anyway. If tesla remains unchanged in 9th, the +1max rule will hurt it a bit, while the 18" rapid fire for Sautekh will make gauss so much better
i wouldnt count on immortals just yet as it seems like GW is pushing more towards a silver tide list. new RP rules aswell as warriors getting a reroll of ones for RP might make them the superior choice for a tough objective holding troop.
That new silent king faction I kinda forgot what its called, would be cool if it was more focused on melee, then it makes sense why you want more lych guard.
100% agree with your recommendations the wraiths are a must with the fact they can pass through terrain too and they are great for tearing down tanks. I would also recommend another full squad of necron warriors. I like immortals but with the guass reapers you could argue that they may be more cost effective and maybe consider getting a C'Tan Deciever model then you can pretty much redeploy your guass reapers and set up a good ambush. Stalker with its quantum shields is a great shout and it can use its target relay rule to improve the next wave of shots on its target for another unit. Only other model I might consider is a doom scythe for air support nee rules allow you to fly off the table and redeploy could be a good hit and run unit.
@@IDICBeer you should also do a spit ball video on the new silent King model be a good video to see what your thoughts the new model might be with the rules just by looking at it. That would be an awesome vid
@@IDICBeer been re-working my necrons points and noticed that Illuminor Szeras points in the new Phsyic Awakening book is listed as 130pts however the new Chapter Approve has him at 145pts. It could very well be that he may have new rule or tweaks come October's new codex
9th Edition has given new importance to Cover with Keywords. Nick, under 9th Edition rules for Cover, what exactly does the Solar Pulse Strategim do to our opponent and how can this be more fully exploited?
Yeah that is true, I have been wondering about Solar Pulse in 9th myself, I wonder if/how it will change, but I think it could be very useful still as it is
I’d say with mission destroyers wraiths tomb blades warriors in ghost ark not a bad option especially magnetised that quantum shielding makes them durable.
IDICBeer 40k - Necrons and More maybe bit even if not move ark up 3” past centre objective disembark turn 2 disembark the warriors back behind objective the ghost ark forms a wall to make it hard for opponent to charge round and or remove in shooting.
I recommend buying an additional 20 warriors so you have 2 squads of 20. Reanimation protocols only work when you have a surviving squad and warriors get to reroll 1s. Plus the cryptek reanimator beam only can target 1 unit so having 20 warrior squads seem ideal.
I love the detail on the tesseract vault, but even the studio model is clearly bending under its own weight. In my humble opinion, each section deserves its own base and stand to keep it upright. This makes the magnetization even more tricky, as the bases would need to come together to form a single base when changing it into an obelisk. I would probably get one after I have a 2000 pt necron army and necron terrain done first.
Ghost Arc is close to the last thing I would expect to see on a list like this. Doomsday Arc is an obvious add for most people. I like Lychguard quite a lot but I agree they aren't necessarily a good add to Indomitus for the reasons you said. wraiths are are real good, real good. I still like Szeras, and want one, but not only do we have plenty of HQ's already and he's expensive ($100 at my local). Immortals I imagine will be a mainstay. Instead of Szeras I would suggest the Deciever instead. Destroyers are good, I'll finally be picking some up myself. I'm glad you mentioned Tomb blades, they were my first thought for expanding on Indomitus. Tesseract Vault is one I've been avoiding, the model looks like a nightmare, to build, to transport. And again it's very expensive. I've had great success with my Triarch Stalker though I do believe it's a bit points heavy.
Ghost arks will likely be meta mate. In a objctive focused game you want to get your troops to where they need to be asap and the ghost ark will do just that. Early looks at winning lists all utilise some form of troop transport, should be same for necrons.
Thanks for your thoughts Aaron, the old C'tan models will be in a weird place when the Void Dragon hits, I wonder how quickly we will get new minis for them
I don't argue about the Triarch Stalker having a place in the list however I would say the new Monolith would probably deserve a mention as an alternative... With a pinch of salt of course. It's a new unit that GW will definitely want to push so "should" (this is where the salt comes in) have some pretty solid rules in the next codex. Although I would never advise people to rush out and buy the old model at this point, with a new one around the corner it might be wiser to wait. In a case of a new player just wants to buy something 'new' in the meantime whilst they wait for the Monolith release then yes, absolutely a Triarch Stalker is a worthy unit.
This piece was written with 9th edition in mind as hints at new rules for necrons but also for marines. The list is fairly solid. only thing i wouldnt recommend just yet is the tesseracts vault.
Great video as always, thanks for steering the newly awakened necron players the right way. With the Silent King's return we all have to do our part to help the #Necrolution
I recently purchased szeras but I got disapointed about that much money spent in just one plastic sprue and a base. I felt bad. I hope szeras get better rules (and more aura range) as they say
Funny how GW recommends these things to a newbie :))) When my friend saw me entered 8th Edition, what he said to me was: "Build more Warriors..." Lol, and I did make it into 72 Warriors by now. Such a feat for me to achieve so far.
@@IDICBeer I've been watching your videos for a long time. Your love for Necrons and 40k brings a lot of joy to my wife and I. Keep up the great work, you always have a fan in me. NECRONS!
I can't really have an opinion when it comes to battlefield performanceas it's been almost 10 years since I've played with my necrons but I can definitely say that this list is a hell of lot better than the one in the article. Even when it comes to just ease of building the kits
@@IDICBeer I'll have to have a look but probably on the same calibre as the crons one. They'll want to promote more of the newer kits with one or two less popular kits
The additions I was looking at mainly was wraiths , immortals and honestly just another whole unit of warriors. But as previously mentioned we should all wait till the new codex is released !
Am i the only one who thinks the nihilak dynasty code is amazing? Outrider detachment filled with scarb swarms and wraiths are going to drive people insane.
Hi buddy, I made a video on this, it was for 8th edition, but I suspect it will be the same for 9th, we will see when the Codex comes in October though. Here is the video ua-cam.com/video/d5TpGakXd_A/v-deo.html
Great video Nick! Of course GW is going to recommend the units they want to sell. If I was still there I would recommend waiting until the new codex comes out as we have no idea how things are going to change.
Honestly, I think Immortals, Cryptec and Destroyers are the best way to expand, but that is for 8th edition. I do fear that 9th ed codex will change a lot, so I would personally wait for the codex and then decide on to what to buy )
*transport vehicles are always amazing in every army* I must say GW really improved their comedy! I actually had a good laugh :D ... also: is embarking disembarking not done at the beginning of the movement phase anymore? so you can disembark and pew pew pew the ground since you still are not in range with or without the vehicle? xD or did I miss something?
Yeah I believe it's still the same, so you have to wait a turn to get out once in range and by that time your enemy will move away, could be good for tactical reserves or a teleportation trick though
I will take the option you have gave in this video! If I get the introdmitus box's set if l get it and I really hope l can get it . Necrons is supper epic and really amazing !! I really mean it!!
I have already gotten a Szeras a Cryptek and Lychguard. I want a Doomsday Ark, a Doom Scythe, and some Immortals. Lychguard are a great Objective holder for me.
love the list of upgrades, i agree with most of it, the wraiths, tombblades/destroyers, and the vault whilst very powerful on the board, i have heard getting it there is a PITA so i agree there and a stalker is much better for the dakka lists szeraz is contextual, in the context of you already own a indom box yes he is not a great buy, especially since he went up by 40 dollars. but i have tested with my mini szeraz from 8th release and he is a combat monster so perfect alongside the murderbuckets i would say he complements the melee focus destroyer cult very well, as augmenting the troops to be tougher or better in melee is awesome and the ability to give a BS 2+ is good too as i believe everyone will be running some form of obsec troops that he can augment the Doomsday Ark/Ghost ark being magnitised is a great idea as if you are going to pick up the model then it is good to have options, but for antivehicle, if you have a scorpekh lord a squad of destroyers and are uming and ahing about szeraz i would pick up a named hq or catacomb command barge for the slingshot of 8-9th adding 1 to move 2 to advance and 1 to charge distances thanks to new overlord and named overlords not having changed abilities to suit 9th you can use my will be done from named/barge to buf a units movement whilst it is within the indom overlords relentless march radius and gain the bonuses of both for a 13 inch move advance of murderbuckets (if nephrekt dynasty is chosen) before a 2d6+1 charge thanks to the canoptek charge strat, or using kutlakh the worldkiller as your named you can advance and charge infantry within 12 of him if he is your warlord and you are using the maynarkh dynastic code in talking about the FW HQ(kutlakh) i wouldnt necessarily go out and get one as i am not sure if he will even be in 9th proper, but if he is his 12 inch charge after advance aura will be massive with the destroyer cults melee division
@@IDICBeer i wont be sad for this provided we gain the abilities they bring to the table somewhere else, being one of the only seemingly melee focused faction that has no ability to advance and charge,
We'll need to see and wait for the new codex, but I think you really need extra immortals till you have a 10 man unit, and with 20 warriors of indomitus, you may think bout szeras later on
@@crossleyrob You might be over doing it. Edge highlighting will always be sharper, I'm just following my paint scheme from 20 years ago when I first started lol
As long the people you play with aren't wysiwyg elitists. I think you'll be fine to say they're whatever you want, just be clear with yourself and your opponent before you begin play and you'll be fine.
thanks for this nick, my points book hasn't arrived yet. I dunno which lists to build for either my orks or necrons, I dunno which type of detachments to buy with CPs. My head is spinning. What about my old monoliths ?
Yeah it takes a while to get used to it all. There should be no issues using the old mono models, it's still a monolith, although we might have to base them now
Well... they are trying to sell more models. So advertising now is best for Games workshop. For me I'm holding off until we see that new codex. I actually have a box of Lychguard in my pile of shame and when I see their new rules I'll know what to do with them. Best advice to ANY Necron (or Space marine) player right now is to just wait. There are lots of new models and rules on the horizon jumping now would be a mistake. Oh and one thing that's being carefully overlooked is the new monolith. Looking at it I'm thinking it's a heavy hitter (finally!) and still does the job of a transport. I'd take that over a Tesseract Vault any day!
Hi I am quite new to necrons and I really like the diversity of all the units but I find it hard to use them because I usually run out of points (I usually play at 500-1000 points btw) so does anyone have any tips on how to play necrons at lower points
Hi there, yeah points can be an issue, however if you make the most of RP Necrons can be really good at lower point levels. I did several batreps around a few different 1k ish armies you might like to see, they are tactical reports explaining what I am doing and why. 8th edition of course, but they may still help...bit.ly/3i9JLN9
as you said i personally think it's too early for that, we don't know what will happen in October with the codex. having a little bit seen how GW work i wouldn't be surprised that this list did take into account the new codex. For what i've seen about 9th game right now ... Vault may not be so bad in reality, not saying it would be good BUT it may be better than we think, but i agree that i wouldn't recommend it for a beginner.
Thanks buddy, was looking to help the new Necron collector here as I remember following GWs battle plan suggestions from the 3rd edition Codex when I first started only to realise they haven't got a clue lol
I feel that expansion units really depends on what playstyle your going for..furthermore the indomotis box is kinda of a jack of all trades master of none as far as playstyle goes. I really wouldnt take any advice from games workshop on army building..because they are the ones trying to sell the models. Personally i feel that we already have existing models that can do everything that indomotis offers..aside of a couple special hq bonuses. I also feel that gw was correct in saying indomotis is geared a little more towards experienced players because the necron content part seems to need a little more finesse and thought to make all the gears turn. Thats just my 2 cents worth...lol
You could be right, but I bet GW didn't know that ha ha, It's a good choice like I said and if you magnetise it you can have the best of both worlds :D
in general, I have to agree with you completely, this post is obviously quite old and the units mentioned are then presented according to the rules of the 8th edition. of the units shown, only the Destroyer is a useful idea. I also think that Tomb Blades will play an important role in the 9th edition. with gauss in particular, they will definitely be a serious threat in the Sautekh dynasty. I myself was never a big fan of the Doomsday Ark because it is not only too expensive but also too random. i don't think the ark will be better in the next codex either. therefore my hope is for the new Destroyer, since the doom stalker is said to have a weakened version of the Doomsday cannon. I am massively disappointed with this GW post and do not think that new Necron players will find useful information there. in my view, the most sensible extension of the Indomitus box. - Cloak Cryptek (technomancer) I am massively disappointed with the Plasmacer - Immortals - Tomb blades - Scarabs - Triach stalker and in exactly that order. I don't think wraith are a good unit for beginners. otherwise I would also say that they are a good extension.
@@IDICBeer I can say the same about your videos, they are always a fantastic inspiration. Keep it up and hopefully the 9th edition will be even more fantastic than the last one.
Trying to get a DDA for months, that Ghost Ark recommendation from GW is a bit of low blow considering how long that particular unit has been out of stock.....
That is roughly my Sautekh army, two blobs of 12 troops, 10 immortals, 5 destroyers 3 heavy destroyers t triarch stalker with heavy gauss cannons 3 tomb blades ,ghost ark with 10 warriors 5 litchguard with swords and shields and a cheap lord. Total 1492 points.of course my friends and l play mixed rules using 3rd,4th 5th and 6th rules as we can no longer afford to keep buying new codexs every three years and to be honest we prefer those rules.
I agree with you list a lot more than GW. Really? The vault? It's only on there because they're not selling any at the moment. Definitely not a beginner model and doesn't suit indomitus very well. Deceiver would have been a better c'tan choice ... But he's not $160
Wow... lol... a *Tesseract Vault* for an add-on to the Indominus Set? Really? REALLY? Can GW get any more entrepreneurial? They might as well had said "And just because you have one decent sized army, don't stop there! Many people play multiple armies! Make sure you buy a full range of Space Marines models. That way you can let your mates play something against your vast array of Necrons!" Glad you brought some sense to adding on to a starter set...
I'm just thinking about it and they have always said the set is not for beginners but for veterans, so maybe that influenced their choices. Still, so many new Cron players, I had to get this video up
What makes me sick is all these asses going mental for the Indomitus box all rushing out and buying it, then selling half of the stuff in it. Whilst people who wanted the complete box for everything in it had no chance.
Your right, it wasn't sold for beginners, but there are a lot of beginners who bought the set for obvious reason, like the amazing price and minis that are in it

The box set is a nice way to start. Going with what minis you like the look of is also very important
Lokhust Destroyers (whenever we see them come out)
Night Scythes because I'm a sucker for any form of transport that can be vaguely described as a dropship. Just wish the pilot wasn't exposed. It's the one part of that aesthetic I dislike.
Tomb Blades, both for speed and because I want to try my hand at converting them to look less like robot skeletons on alien jetbikes and more like creepy HR Giger death angels.
The rule of cool is always good, you will have a lot of fun that way
Great next steps video, sent it on to my mate who bought the box for the necron half. Cheers!
Cheers mate, much appreciated
Yeah all sound advice
Thanks nick! It's like you knew exactly what I needed! Would you look to build a list for each game level? 500 1000, 2000, and 3k?
Good to hear Evan, yeah I'm going to work on list videos for sure
I think I prefer the Heat Ray on the Triarch Stalker, using the units flexible range and movement has it fit right in with the hustle of Wraiths, and destroyers.
The Heat Ray is good, but I have found standing back and shooting gives me more chance to use the targeting relay for more turns with the Cannon
Definitely prefer your list to theirs! Personally I’m not buying anything else until after the new codex, I’ve got other stuff to focus on in the meantime & I’m not in a rush. 2021 will be the year of my Necrons awakening from their tomb! Look forward to your post-codex advice!
Waiting has to be the best option if you can, there's still so much more to come
This is what I was waiting for! Loved it!!
Thanks, glad you liked it :)
Great video, i get two necrons sets from indomitus and a couple of bikes and catacumbs but the inmortal looks nice
Two sets is a good number
Great video, I’m excited as a new player to start the hobby and the Necrons look awesome!
Thanks fella, glad you liked it, it's exciting times for us :D
I think the lychgaurd are a good choice if you plan going novock. Put them up front then put your skorpeck lord and cryptek in the mix and skorpeck near by to get the buffs. Go full death star
Gotta love the Novokh Dynasty, although not too sure about their new code rules yet from what I can see
Good work. I am sure GW's advice was based on marketing goals but it is very good of you to offer your own recommendation for Top5 and why.
Thanks mate, always happy if I can help anyone
Thank you Nick for this video this helps new players to Necrons like mee.
Thanks buddy, glad it was useful
Thank you. You probably saved me a few buck here. I already bought the Pariah book and the model thinking it would benefit me in my new Necron army. I actually have two Indomitus boxes so think I am good on the troop side of the things. Maybe one or two Ghost arks will do fine for the time being
Glad it helped Davy
great video, I ended up snagging the Necron apocalypse box before I got Indomitus. Great bang for the buck it’s worth!
Thanks buddy and nice one, that is a great set
I'd just crack on and build what you have, magnetise where you can. The rules are always changing and so will you army
Thanks Seth, yeah that is good advice too. Nearly at 20k so Giveaway Video coming soon
(Heat ray weapon profile.
When attacking with this weapon, choose one of the profiles below.
- Dispersed 8" Heavy 2D6 S5 AP-1 1 Damage
When you use this profile, this weapon automatically hits its target.
- Focused 24" Heavy 2 S8 AP-4 D6 Damage
When you use this profile, if the target is within half range, roll two dice when inflicting damage with it and discard the lowest result.)
Stalker for the win
Another great vid Nick thanks, i just finished buying my first 750pts of Necrons wihich was 12 tomb blades a CCB and a large contingent of scarabs, I think a Stalker will be my next purchase as i look to get to 1000pts, then i will wait for 9th
Oh I also got a Cryptek
Very nice, sounds like a good plan too
This article obviously written by marketing team to boost sales, Nick you need to do top 10 (or 11) units that synergy with necron from indomitus crusade
Yeah, it's like they just did a lucky dip with their choices ha ha
I’m a new necron player and wanted to be careful with new purchases and then went wild and bought an annihilation barge and a tomb stalker! Wanted to get some fun units. Thanks for the advice I think I’ll get immortals next!
The Barge is always a good choice and easy to magnetise ;)
I think immortals are the safest bet here, propably with gauss since there are no mentions about tesla yet.
As you said, we don't know how good some units will be until the codex drops so patience might be they key here.
I still think your top 5 is much better anyways. 😊
Good video
I play Sautekh and I think gauss will be the way to go for my dynasty anyway. If tesla remains unchanged in 9th, the +1max rule will hurt it a bit, while the 18" rapid fire for Sautekh will make gauss so much better
Thanks buddy, so far it does seem like a Gauss edition, but we will see. GW like to flip things and as tesla is good now it may not be so good soon
i wouldnt count on immortals just yet as it seems like GW is pushing more towards a silver tide list. new RP rules aswell as warriors getting a reroll of ones for RP might make them the superior choice for a tough objective holding troop.
That new silent king faction I kinda forgot what its called, would be cool if it was more focused on melee, then it makes sense why you want more lych guard.
Szarekhan Dynasty
Yeah I think you need more meat added to the set before getting Lychguard
Thanks buddy, I should have done a top ten. Maybe I'll do that when the Codex hits
@@IDICBeer that would be awesome
Yeah that is true, I have been wondering about Solar Pulse in 9th myself, I wonder if/how it will change, but I think it could be very useful still as it is
Great take on the list Nick! I agree and as a Sautekh player I feel gauss will be the way to go in 9th.
Thanks fella, I hope it helps a few new Necron players
I’d say with mission destroyers wraiths tomb blades warriors in ghost ark not a bad option especially magnetised that quantum shielding makes them durable.
Fingers crossed for open topped :D
IDICBeer 40k - Necrons and More maybe bit even if not move ark up 3” past centre objective disembark turn 2 disembark the warriors back behind objective the ghost ark forms a wall to make it hard for opponent to charge round and or remove in shooting.
I recommend buying an additional 20 warriors so you have 2 squads of 20. Reanimation protocols only work when you have a surviving squad and warriors get to reroll 1s. Plus the cryptek reanimator beam only can target 1 unit so having 20 warrior squads seem ideal.
Yep more warriors would do the trick and a good reason to have a second set of Indomitus :)
Yeah it is an unusual design, but looks very cool. Not really a starter model though ha ha
Great video as always, my brother! I think this list is much more logical than the one in the article! 😁
~ Wolfbrother Methos
Thanks a lot mate :D
Yeah I didn't really want to do new units at this stage.
@@IDICBeer That's fair enough. The Triarch Stalker is definitely a solid choice and would make a great addition to any new Necron player's army 😊
This piece was written with 9th edition in mind as hints at new rules for necrons but also for marines. The list is fairly solid. only thing i wouldnt recommend just yet is the tesseracts vault.
Sounds like Ghost Arks won't be open topped then, which is a shame
Great video as always, thanks for steering the newly awakened necron players the right way. With the Silent King's return we all have to do our part to help the #Necrolution
Thanks buddy, reducing peoples learning curve is always good :D NECRONS!!
@@IDICBeer That and next steps based on playing the race not marketing is good too.
Wraiths, Doomsday Ark, Tomb Blades, Stalker, Cryptek, Deceiver Shard and Nightbringer shard is what you buy! BUFF YOUR NECRONS!
Maybe, although personally I would hold off the C'tans and see what happens when the Void Dragon comes out
I recently purchased szeras but I got disapointed about that much money spent in just one plastic sprue and a base. I felt bad. I hope szeras get better rules (and more aura range) as they say
It's not cheap, but imagine the work that went into the mini and the machinery to get it mass produced, think of it as buying a piece of art
I love the tesseract vault.
Hopefully the rules are better in 9th codex.
Yeah it's very cool and fun to play
Funny how GW recommends these things to a newbie :))) When my friend saw me entered 8th Edition, what he said to me was: "Build more Warriors..." Lol, and I did make it into 72 Warriors by now. Such a feat for me to achieve so far.
My man, with the new box im up to 60 warriors also started Necrons Valhalla n 8th
You can never have enough, I'm up to 130 now he he
@@IDICBeer man, that's a huge fortune, Nick :)))
Great vid!!! Waiting is the best.
Could you do a video with a few necron tricks and tactics?
NECRONS!!!!!!!!!
Hi buddy, glad you liked it, yeah I have some ideas for videos I want to make so keep your eyes peeled
Thanks mate, I see they did a list like this for the marines as well, any idea if that one was any better?
@@IDICBeer I'll have to have a look but probably on the same calibre as the crons one. They'll want to promote more of the newer kits with one or two less popular kits
The additions I was looking at mainly was wraiths , immortals and honestly just another whole unit of warriors. But as previously mentioned we should all wait till the new codex is released !
You can't really go wrong with core units, but yeah waiting would be the best option
I guess the only thing to do now is to sit back and have a beer!
Am i the only one who thinks the nihilak dynasty code is amazing? Outrider detachment filled with scarb swarms and wraiths are going to drive people insane.
Nope, it's the one that stood out to me when I first saw the rules, but they all seem pretty good tbh
great break down. I really do hope some of those units they recommend get better with the codex, not much hope though.
I wonder what percentage will be copy and paste and what will be rewritten
I'm new to playing, what exactly are Necrons good at? What is it that they specialize in? If that's even a thing in this series.
Hi buddy, I made a video on this, it was for 8th edition, but I suspect it will be the same for 9th, we will see when the Codex comes in October though. Here is the video ua-cam.com/video/d5TpGakXd_A/v-deo.html
Thanks Nick I wanted to ask this question.
I just recieved my Necron army (1 box).
Glad it was useful
Great video Nick! Of course GW is going to recommend the units they want to sell. If I was still there I would recommend waiting until the new codex comes out as we have no idea how things are going to change.
Thanks mate, all the minis they showed are very cool and they were NECRONS!! so not all bad ha ha
Great advice!, the Overlord of the Boneyard Dynasty salutes you.
Thank you sir :) NECRONS!!
Yep I agree with your assessment
Thanks buddy
Honestly, I think Immortals, Cryptec and Destroyers are the best way to expand, but that is for 8th edition. I do fear that 9th ed codex will change a lot, so I would personally wait for the codex and then decide on to what to buy )
Yeah waiting is the best option if you can, I just didn't want anyone to see GW's post and rush out and buy their recommendations lol
@@IDICBeer Oh yes... Those recommendations were, mmmmmm, not that good )))
Very useful to new necron players
Cheers fella, that was the aim
@@IDICBeer would you recommend a new to warhammer aspiring necron player to getting the indomitus set to start with?
@@samhammel8268 it's such good value and a fun set, I would say yes
Yep, they are very cool :) NECRONS!!
Thanks for this Nick
All my pleasure pal
I have already gotten a Szeras a Cryptek and Lychguard. I want a Doomsday Ark, a Doom Scythe, and some Immortals.
Lychguard are a great Objective holder for me.
They certainly have uses for sure
love the list of upgrades, i agree with most of it, the wraiths, tombblades/destroyers, and the vault whilst very powerful on the board, i have heard getting it there is a PITA so i agree there and a stalker is much better for the dakka lists
szeraz is contextual, in the context of you already own a indom box yes he is not a great buy, especially since he went up by 40 dollars. but i have tested with my mini szeraz from 8th release and he is a combat monster so perfect alongside the murderbuckets i would say he complements the melee focus destroyer cult very well, as augmenting the troops to be tougher or better in melee is awesome and the ability to give a BS 2+ is good too as i believe everyone will be running some form of obsec troops that he can augment
the Doomsday Ark/Ghost ark being magnitised is a great idea as if you are going to pick up the model then it is good to have options, but for antivehicle, if you have a scorpekh lord a squad of destroyers and are uming and ahing about szeraz i would pick up a named hq or catacomb command barge for the slingshot of 8-9th adding 1 to move 2 to advance and 1 to charge distances thanks to new overlord and named overlords not having changed abilities to suit 9th you can use my will be done from named/barge to buf a units movement whilst it is within the indom overlords relentless march radius and gain the bonuses of both for a 13 inch move advance of murderbuckets (if nephrekt dynasty is chosen) before a 2d6+1 charge thanks to the canoptek charge strat, or using kutlakh the worldkiller as your named you can advance and charge infantry within 12 of him if he is your warlord and you are using the maynarkh dynastic code
in talking about the FW HQ(kutlakh) i wouldnt necessarily go out and get one as i am not sure if he will even be in 9th proper, but if he is his 12 inch charge after advance aura will be massive with the destroyer cults melee division
Thanks for your thoughts buddy, I see the Forge World HQ points are missing, hopefully their rules aren't going away
@@IDICBeer i wont be sad for this provided we gain the abilities they bring to the table somewhere else, being one of the only seemingly melee focused faction that has no ability to advance and charge,
We'll need to see and wait for the new codex, but I think you really need extra immortals till you have a 10 man unit, and with 20 warriors of indomitus, you may think bout szeras later on
Yeah it's not long until the Codex now, hopefully this video will help a few beginners until then though
Great video, i just got my indomitus half xd
Thanks Jorge, it's an awesome set and the minis are a lot of fun to build and paint :D
The debate we've been having is if Doomscythes are worth taking anymore. I'm not even sure about Imotekh or the Deceiver anymore.
Time will tell I suppose, it's very hard to predict
I really like the doomsday ark but it was such a pain to paint. So much edge highlighting
Luckily mine was just dry brushed he he
@@IDICBeer I find my dry brushing ends looking a bit chalky
@@crossleyrob You might be over doing it. Edge highlighting will always be sharper, I'm just following my paint scheme from 20 years ago when I first started lol
Man those newer Wraiths really look a lot better than the older ones you have (no offense lol).
Ha ha no offence at all I love my old Wraiths though we go back a long way ha ha
I just built my immortals as Tesla. I hope it stays the same :p
It's interesting there has been no word on it, but then there is no tesla in the Indomitus box so I suppose it's just going to be a Codex thing
As long the people you play with aren't wysiwyg elitists. I think you'll be fine to say they're whatever you want, just be clear with yourself and your opponent before you begin play and you'll be fine.
IDICBeer 40k - Necrons and More with the points increase on immortals I hope it stays the same, if not gets better lol.
thanks for this nick, my points book hasn't arrived yet. I dunno which lists to build for either my orks or necrons, I dunno which type of detachments to buy with CPs. My head is spinning. What about my old monoliths ?
Yeah it takes a while to get used to it all. There should be no issues using the old mono models, it's still a monolith, although we might have to base them now
I'd rather pack 1-2 Night Scythes for gauss reaper warriors. Sure, you might you lose a bit of survivability but you gain mobility.
Could work well with the new reserves rule
The problem with Tomb Blades is, in 9th, they can no longer fall back and shoot...
But that will be the same for all units, unless you have a Royal Warden around
I agree with you 100 percent
Good to hear ;)
Well... they are trying to sell more models.
Thanks buddy, yeah I bet the new mono will be great and the void dragon, didn't want to include them in this one though
IDICBeer 40k - Necrons and More thanks this will really help
Interesting how GW is saying Destroyers are a good choice just as I've begun building and painting a squad of 6 8e style Destroyers.
Tbf Destroyers have always been good one way or another
Its time for total Necron domination
The galaxy will be ours once again :D NECRONS!!
Great video .
Cheers Grumpy
as you said i personally think it's too early for that, we don't know what will happen in October with the codex.
having a little bit seen how GW work i wouldn't be surprised that this list did take into account the new codex.
Thanks Tom, your probably right there fella
Transport will be key in the 9 ed match play missions, just saying.
You could be right, but I bet GW didn't know that ha ha, It's a good choice like I said and if you magnetise it you can have the best of both worlds :D
@@IDICBeer So far when playing new 40k transports have won me games, those primary objectives are a game changer.
in general, I have to agree with you completely, this post is obviously quite old and the units mentioned are then presented according to the rules of the 8th edition.
of the units shown, only the Destroyer is a useful idea.
- Cloak Cryptek (technomancer)
I am massively disappointed with the Plasmacer
- Immortals
- Tomb blades
- Scarabs
- Triach stalker
and in exactly that order.
I don't think wraith are a good unit for beginners.
otherwise I would also say that they are a good extension.
Thanks for your thoughts buddy, it's always great to hear people views and ideas
@@IDICBeer I can say the same about your videos, they are always a fantastic inspiration.
Keep it up and hopefully the 9th edition will be even more fantastic than the last one.
How can a Ghost Ark NOT be open topped? It doesn’t HAVE a lid :p
Exactly, it was obviously designed to be as that was it's original rule, but then they changed it and it just doesn't make sense
Trying to get a DDA for months, that Ghost Ark recommendation from GW is a bit of low blow considering how long that particular unit has been out of stock.....
Yeah I bet this was written a while back
Good content, just takes a long time to get to it.
Watch on 1.5 times speed ;) lol

*IN SPAAAAAAAAACE*
Been running Wraiths in almost every list nowadays; they are completely wrecking every game (multiple games scoring 2x opponent's points)
Yeah I love Wraiths
yeah, a) wait for codex, probably b) get more core troops, scarabs and doomsday arks anyway.
It's a solid plan
That is roughly my Sautekh army, two blobs of 12 troops, 10 immortals, 5 destroyers 3 heavy destroyers t triarch stalker with heavy gauss cannons 3 tomb blades ,ghost ark with 10 warriors 5 litchguard with swords and shields and a cheap lord. Total 1492 points.of course my friends and l play mixed rules using 3rd,4th 5th and 6th rules as we can no longer afford to keep buying new codexs every three years and to be honest we prefer those rules.
That's fair play mate and if you are having fun that's all that matters
damn, those wraiths really need a new plastic kit
lol I really like the old ones, I have 18 of them so not in a rush to get the new ones he he
I agree with you list a lot more than GW. Really? The vault? It's only on there because they're not selling any at the moment. Definitely not a beginner model and doesn't suit indomitus very well. Deceiver would have been a better c'tan choice ... But he's not $160
Yeah the Vault is a very odd choice!
GW: Take these Units !
Me: IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII’m gonna see what IDIC has to say ......
NECRONS!! :D
What no flyers! However as always I defer to your infinite wisdom with regard to all things NECRONS! :>)
Thanks Pete :D NECRONS!!
Moral of the story don't forget troops
Yea every army needs soldiers he he

Worthy to be a Silent King Triarch :D NECRONS!!
IDICBeer 40k - Necrons and More love your channel Nick !
Wow... lol... a *Tesseract Vault* for an add-on to the Indominus Set? Really? REALLY? Can GW get any more entrepreneurial?
They might as well had said "And just because you have one decent sized army, don't stop there! Many people play multiple armies! Make sure you buy a full range of Space Marines models. That way you can let your mates play something against your vast array of Necrons!"
Glad you brought some sense to adding on to a starter set...
i think it hints more towards new and possibly better ctan powers. Otherwise i agree, its the only odd unit in this list.
I'm just thinking about it and they have always said the set is not for beginners but for veterans, so maybe that influenced their choices. Still, so many new Cron players, I had to get this video up
Expanding? I haven't even glued the Indomitus ones together yet!
Ha ha you better get cracking mate
What makes me sick is all these asses going mental for the Indomitus box all rushing out and buying it, then selling half of the stuff in it. Whilst people who wanted the complete box for everything in it had no chance.
Yeah it is a shame :(
The indomitus box isn't for beginners I hate hearing people saying that models for expanding the indomitus armies need to be good for beginners
Your right, it wasn't sold for beginners, but there are a lot of beginners who bought the set for obvious reason, like the amazing price and minis that are in it
Necrons!
It's all about NECRONS!! :)
@@IDICBeer I got the indomitus box so I'll be doing some NECRONS! Soon myself. :)
