I live in South Jordan, Utah. I am a very active Latter Day Saint. My husband recently had a heart transplant and so many kind friends of various Faiths were part of the tremendous power which got us through the ups and downs of that experience. I am super excited that you are willing to bust through the stereotypes other Christian faiths have pocketed us into. Faith in Christ as our Savior means we have most beliefs in common. You two are a breath of fresh air. I am also a biology teacher... there is so much to tear down the faith of young people... we all have to help each other. And yes, we are nice people.

I wrote a comment, mostly addressed to Steve, but also to you. You will meet all kind of people in Mormonism, out of Mormonism, on the fringes of Mormonism. Despite its claims, main-stream Mormonism doesn't put a whole lot of emphasis on Christ, but there is a growing segment who do, and I am sure they would be receptive to your message, and have some things you could learn from them as well.

I was falling out of the church many decades ago, and found myself stationed at a military base in the bible belt. The LDS young adults in the area were SO STRONG! Their love and strength helped me to realize there was an alternative to the harsh LDS youth experience I had in SLC where I grew up. I hope you'll reach out to other saints there. That’s so sad. When people are so insecure in their faith, and so fearful of others, they act like crazy people, and don’t use logic, and reason in their approach on how to treat people, regardless of what they believe or don’t believe, politically or religiously. It’s especially sad since Jesus Christ’s gospel is all about love and acceptance, turning the other cheek, loving your enemies, etc. etc. nowhere does he tell his followers to condemn, persecute, or Bible bash. That’s the natural man, and the influence and Temptations of Satan creeping in. As true followers of Jesus Christ, should we be surprised if we are persecuted, mis-treated, hated and spoken evil against? He told us that would happen, and told us to rejoice if that did happen, because so persecuted they the prophets who were before you. And who were the “they“ that persecuted the prophets? Ironically also, it was the people who claim to follow God and keep his commandments, not normally the nonbelieving Gentiles. Should it be any different in our day? That’s why the work that Pastor Jeff And Mormon book reviews are doing is important, even if their goal is to try to persuade and lead away, latter-day Saints. If they are honest in heart, and they are following the gospel of Jesus Christ as they understand it, and are seeking the Holy Spirit to be their guide, what will happen is that there will be beautiful connections, and residence and harmony that will take place. He also advised us to be lights to the world, to reward Meanness with kindness. I promise you that if you do patiently, the honest in heart, those of his followers, who are true followers, and who are his sheep, and hear his voice, will recognize good fruit when they experience it, for that is how he told us we could recognize true prophets from false prophets by their fruit you shall know them which, is proof 100% that there will be true prophets, ironically, if what the prophets say, and do leads to other people coming to Christ, giving themselves to him, and entering into a covenant relationship with God, through his holy ordinances, laid out in the Bible, and restored through his restored church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. When we are persecuted by others, who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ, we constantly have to remind ourselves of how Jesus reacted, when he was actually nailed to the Cross suffering for all of our sins, when he cried, and plead with his Heavenly Father, “father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”, we also need to remember people like Saul, who became Paul and Alma the younger, who actively fought against the Saints, and who, both later became two of the most amazing prolific missionaries that history and scripture record. If we can be patient in our afflictions and set good examples, other people will be led to Christ and his restored gospel, who then can receive more light and more knowledge. If not, then they’re not damned and going to hell like they claim that we are, they will still have opportunities to hear, and receive, except or reject, the Lord’s true gospel. How merciful and how wonderful is that plan!?? When others are condemning us, and damning us to hell, we still pray for them, and hold out the hope that they will one day except the truth, and even if they don’t, they still receive a degree of glory, in the glorious and beautiful plan of salvation of our Heavenly Father and His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ.

I apologize if this get's winded, but I felt I needed to share this. My brother left the LDS faith years ago. He was hurt and very angry. When we talked about it, I seriously had to put my beliefs aside and love him in that moment. Faith and church became secondary to me. I didn't want to lose my brother. He joined a local Christian denomination where he lived and really took to it. I was super happy for him because at least he still believed in God and our Savior. I joined him several times at his church events and services. Loved it. I actually introduced him to K-love because I had been listening to that station for years. I will say though...once they knew I was LDS, all welcoming and friendliness went out the window. I went to his pastor to thank him for the service. Introduced myself as "Mike's sister" and said I am actually LDS but love what I experienced here today.... His smile vanished and he said "Why are you here? I don't understand how you can even think you are Christian being a Mormon!!! You should really leave. You don't belong here. Your brother doesn't deserve this from you." I was shocked! Shocked! It hurt. It was so difficult to stand in that room, keeping my composure, seeing how happy my brother was. I never told my brother about it..Instead, I kept going to his events because he wanted me there. It was awkward after that. Word got out I was the "Mormon sister" So I was treated very differently after that. I later found out from my niece (his daughter) that their church bashed LDS people all the time. I asked why, and she had no idea. But the Spirit bore witness to me that what I was doing for my brother was exactly what I needed to do at that time. He didn't return the favor. Never came to anything LDS again. But I figured I did what I felt was right. It's really not about people and what they do or say. At the end of the day, It's where we are with God and Christ. As hard and hurtful as that was... I don't hold it against anyone. If anything, it strengthened my faith even more in forgiveness, and the way Christ sees us and His love for all. At the end of the day, we all need the atonement of our Savior. We ALL (yes all of us) just need to be kind. Thanks for listening. And I just subscribed to your channel. Can't wait to see more.

In the end it is Christ himself who will judge if we know Him. The Scriptures make it very clear that there are some who will claim to know Jesus, and do not; that’s sad. I believe we’re on the right track if we are sincerely striving to follow Christ and love others. If we are not seeking to do evil, if we are not seeking to Fight against God and we are sincerely seeking to love serve and follow our Savior Jesus Christ then it will be up to him in the end and I believe he is a kind and merciful Savior. What I also know is that she has guided me and helped me throughout my life, he has forgiven me and been my strength and my Redeemer, and I love Him!❤️❤️

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and have a witness of the truthfulness of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and have great respect for what you are doing and feel that the Lord is in your work of building bridges between our faith communities. We will all need that as we face the challenges of the last days. Your comment about being a small channel or movement and expression of how you feel that even though it is small you feel the Lord has something great in store through your work reminds me of a scripture from the Book of Mormon that I feel expresses your feeling. Alma 37: 6-7: "6 Now ye may suppose that this is foolishness in me; but behold I say unto you, that by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise.
7 And the Lord God doth work by means to bring about his great and eternal purposes; and by very small means the Lord doth confound the wise and bringeth about the salvation of many souls."

The sad truth is that until the LDS religion stop sending missionaries out to teach everyone else that they have it wrong and need the restored gospel there will always be a division.
      Here’s the facts
      1. My biggest concerned is that the Bible teaches a different Jesus than the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints teaches. The LDS church also teaches you not to trust the Bible. Third Article of faith-We believe that Bible to be the word of god as far as it is translated correctly,(this leaves one with a lingering thought of what can I trust in the Bible? What parts have been translated correctly?)
      2. Jesus is the same name but a different person.
      3. Bible Jesus born in Bethlehem. LDS Jesus born in Jerusalem.
      4. Bible Jesus is God in the flesh and 3 in one- body(Jesus), soul and spirit. (Gods ways are not man’s ways)
      5. The Mormon God was a created man who worked his way up to godhead of the planet kolob.
      6. Bible Jesus created the world and everything in it.
      7. LDS Jesus is the brother of Satan.
      8. Bible Jesus is God in the flesh. He became my replacement for sin. I only need to believe in Jesus.
      9. LDS Jesus suffered for my sins but I can’t have the gift of eternal life until I live and obey the commandments and ordinances of the everlasting gospel, including a baptism to become a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and paying my tithing and other works to receive a temple recommend so I can go to the temple and get those ordinances.
      10. Bible Jesus died for me on the cross while I was in my sins.
      11. LDS Jesus needs me to obey all his commandments and join his church and then if I’m worthy I can be forgiven, after ALL that I can do.
      12. No longer was Torah mandatory. The Torah had been fulfilled by the promises of Christ. No longer was there a need for the temple because Christ himself was the temple and the people who follow Christ are the dwelling place for the Holy Spirit.
      13. No need for a restoration because Jesus fulfilled the law and the prophets. He became the mediator to God and is our only prophet.
      14. The LDS Jesus was not enough. Everything had to be restored so an earthly man could be the mediator to God.
      15. The gospel in the Bible is that Jesus lived, died and was resurrected for everyone, all you need is to believe in him. That is called the good news.
      16. The LDS gospel is called the plan of salvation. Our works and progression to get to God.
      17. Bible Jesus is enough for me. Nothing I do will get me back to God only what Jesus did for us on the cross.
      18. Jesus message is love and compassion. God loves you just the way you are even in sin.
      19. You don’t need to join a church to be saved. Believing in him makes you a Christian and the believers are his church.
      20. Bottom line: All Christian churches teach from the Bible. LDS teach from the Book of Mormon. They believe that all Christian churches are an abomination to God.

@@tonyarodgers2885you’ve obviously put some thought into this response but unfortunately (perhaps fortunately for me) you are mistaken. As an evangelical Christian I was in what I considered to be a good place with God the Father and with Jesus Christ. I also have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. I understood then and now that Jesus preached that the way to the Father was THROUGH him…not that he was the Father. Both are God, yes, but they are separate. I had no interest or intention of joining the LDS church. However, God had other plans. Through the Holy Ghost, whose voice I know, he asked me to join the church. I was shocked, and tested this as we are taught to. Then I tested it again. It was, indeed, the Holy Ghost asking me to join the church. What followed was a whirlwind of amazing spiritual experiences, many of which were very personal (as in not led by a person). He has blessed me in so many amazing ways. All along he has known my heart. He has known that above all preaching of man, my hearts desire is to worship him, God above all Gods, creator of all things, and his Son, Jesus Christ. If I was lost, he would find me and “bring me back” (Matthew 18:12). I did not convert to the church, it has been a God led evolution. As for the idea of continuing works throughout my life, perhaps you should read James 2:14-26. It makes it perfectly clear. As for the temple, when Jesus came to the temple and found people treating it like a flea market, he didn’t smile and join in the fun. In fact, it’s possibly the only example of him being angry with people. He FASHIONED A WHIP and drove them out (John 2:15). He kicked over their tables and chased the animals away. He called it his father’s house! So, clearly the mattered to him and should to us. It is God’s holy place. I leave you in peace, brother. God Bless!

You guys are both great. I can feel the love. I am a devoted latter-day saint and have been my whole life but I love my other Christian brothers and sisters. I think Christ would be happy that we are coming together in His name instead of trying to divide.
I have always asked my non-LDS friends what I feel is the most important question: Let’s just say you’re right and I’m wrong, and I have sat my butt down in the “wrong” church my entire life and with it I believe all the LDS doctrines. As part of that, I pray in His name, I follow his example, and I absolutely believe in His atonement and know beyond the shadow of any doubt that He is my Lord and Savior. Earnestly and intently. Do I go to “hell“ or does not then, in this circumstance, His atonement account for me?
If He is the way, the truth, and the light, as I believe He is, I have the utmost faith and confidence in Him that the details that are not important to salvation will all work themselves out. Eternity is an awful long time.

Yes God only knows our heart. I would just encourage you to know the Biblical view of Jesus and to put full faith in him alone for how you get to Father God. This is the true concern of those non LDS Christians. We fear for our LDS friends that bc of the teachings of their church, they are led to think that some part of their worthiness will get them to Heavenly Father. When Jesus in the Bible makes it clear that perfection is required... More righteous than even the Pharisees who were the most perfect rule followers of them all... Meaning we have to fully lean on Jesus' perfects and be clothed in his righteousness alone. Any ritual or good work we do has to be 100% out of love for him not to earn any place with God or else we actually aren't putting full faith in Christ. I love my LDS friends and want them to know the freedom we have in Christ to fully trust in him and not any of our own worthiness bc none of us are worthy. "there is none righteous, no not one". Peace and Grace to you.

I was brought to tears when Jeff explained why he felt called to present the reality of Jesus to the LDS people who are going through a faith crisis.
I was born and raised super active, believing-blood, cream of the crop LDS, and found Jesus as a teenager through turning to him in times of difficulty, yet my views were decorated still by LDS theology and traditions.
Nevertheless, I came to a clear understanding that “it’s ALL about Jesus” despite all the other “doctrinal baggage” we carry in the church.
A few years after serving an LDS mission, getting married in the temple, and right after graduating from BYU, I had a faith crisis because of what I learned about church history during the pandemic, and the overwhelming feeling of betrayal and deception in the LDS church rocked my world. I even became agnostic about God for a summer, for the first time in my life. Almost lost my marriage. But the connection I knew I had with God kept me going.
Even though it’s an “unpopular” position among post-faith-crisis Mormons (the majority of which end up leaving the church) I’m still LDS because I feel that’s where God needs me, although I’m not 100% sure why, but I assume it’s mainly to help protect the faith of my family and fellow members who haven’t yet had a faith crisis. So I’m post-faith-crisis LDS but now with a new awareness that I’ve been made free by Christ all along. I feel like an Evangelical among Mormons, because I personally throw out the LDS doctrines that don’t align with the New Testament gospel in my eyes.
I feel kind of like the Apostle Paul when he adopted the customs of the Jews when he was among the Jews, for the gospel’s sake.
Certainly God is working through you both in what you are doing. Thank you for heeding the voice of the Good Shepherd in bringing souls to him. It makes a difference to this lost sheep.

That seems highly unusual. I'm not LDS and never have been. But, I'm Christian and love the Mormon people. The ones I've seen who leave "The Church" almost always seem to go into full-blown militating atheist mode. But, not you! God be praised. Grace to you!

Update: I have since gotten additional guidance from the Lord and have been personally directed to (non-dramatically) remove my name from the records of the LDS church, but you'd never notice by the way I still positively interact with members.
For some he might direct to stay in the church. He did for me for a time, but now he has other plans, and I must obey. I don't judge those whom the Lord asks to "stay in". God bless those who are still "on the inside", and God help those who have become militant atheists or proud zealots, too. (God help us all!)
I really don't think membership status in (or out of) the LDS church is even that important, in general, so I don't like to draw attention to whether one should stay or go, because the really important thing is that we learn to hear the voice of the Lord and follow him.

What a blessing to hear this discussion. I'm a 'faithful' LDS woman going through a re-framing of my LDS Faith. I'm married to a wonderful man who is currently serving as a bishop and is all in with the restored gospel. I love his faith but I don't whole-heartedly share it. What can that mean in the LDS faith? If I leave the church it can feel like I'm leaving my husband and family. Mormon doctrine is such that relationships extend beyond this life but in order for that to work you need to be all in with the church. So leaving the church can feel to your family as though you're leaving them and any hope of being with them in the hereafter. Regardless if that's purposeful in making people feel that way to make them stay, those feelings are real and they are strong. To hear another Christian say, 'I don't care what church you go to on Sunday' is balm for the soul for people like me who choose to stay despite feeling some cognitive dissonance with Joseph Smith and current church leadership and their claim to authority over the Bible. I'm crying like a baby right now because I feel like God is telling me it's okay to stay. I can strengthen my relationship with Christ by continuing in the church that I love even if I'm not converted to how it originated. I'm converted to Christ and I'm beginning to understand grace better. It's good thing to seek learning beyond Desert Book and I'm beginning to understand grace better than how I was taught growing up LDS. I'm grateful for open, loving discussions such as this.

It's a good thing the church is not called by the name of Joseph Smith. I bring in that snarky contrast out of love, because it's a focus on Jesus Christ that's the core of our beliefs. I hope things will have changed for you for the better in standing by your husband in his service. He's not blind to the struggle within his own home, and I'm betting it's bringing him closer to Christ and to you (and to the saints in his ward) in going through this. As a former Mormon, who had an evangelical "born again" experience while in the LDS church and eventually left the church because Jesus appeared to me in a dream and asked me to "stand as an independent witness that the principles of [his] gospel function outside of all earthly institutions and priesthoods, that [he] is the keeper of the gate and employs no servants there, and that [he] has the power to save all those who call upon his name."
I have found myself feeling like an orphan, stuck between my Mormon roots, which I still value and appreciate, and the evangelical world, which I have come to equally value. Jesus also told me that "everyone loves those who agree with them, who believe as they do, but where is the love that sees all mankind as your brothers and sisters?" He told me, "seek that love." So, I feel a great love for my LDS family, friends and culture, and for evangelical Christianity.
But, when I try to go to an evangelical church here in Utah, and I hear the antagnoism that is often expressed against people of the LDS faith, it completely turns me off. I know what it was like to be attacked when I was in the LDS faith, and since there are many spiritual principles I still believe in that I learned from that faith (as well as others that I now disagree with, of course) I just feel that it is un-Christ like to attack other people's beliefs in this extremely unfriendly way.
Seeing this kind of friendly dialog by evangelicals with Mormons gives me hope that maybe I don't have to remain an orphan forever. Perhaps there are ways I can find fellowship again without having to denounce everything I believe was (and is) good about my former LDS faith; but instead finding common ground through making Jesus Christ the center of our discussions. I'm an herbalist and natural healer and have worked with people of many faiths to help them find relationship with Jesus Christ without pushing my own beliefs off on them.
In doing this I follow something Joseph Smith said, "If I esteem mankind to be in error, shall I bear them down? No; I will left them up, and in their own way too if I cannot persuade them my way is better; and I will not seek to compel any man to believe as I do, only by the force of reasoning; for truth will cut its own way. Do you believe in Jesus Christ and the Gospel of Salvation which he revealed? So do I. Christians should cease wrangling and contention with each other and cultivate the principles of union and friendship in their midst; and they will do it before the Millennium can be ushered in, and Christ takes possession of his kingdom."

@Steven Horne I’m only one person, nothing special, just a believer. I felt compelled to share with you what 2 pastors recently shared in public messages. Both were about hearing from God.
You mentioned you feel like you are stuck between the two organizations (or faiths possibly). The pastors I mentioned said not to decide based on your feelings. At least don’t let that be primarily where your answer comes from. Ive read quite a few comments here where evangelical Christian’s are treating Mormons poorly or saying awful things about them. For this I am sorry. Sometimes when people are very compassionate about something or someone, they feel defensive- again with the “feelings.” This is a perfect example of NOT going with feelings. Feeling compassion should be about love. And to my evangelical Christian brothers & sisters, please remember this.
Steven Horne, please seek TRUTH. I would ask you to search on your own, which I’m certain you are. I would urge you to meditate in prayer. Write down what you want to say to God, then write down what He says to you.
IMO, one honest & true pastor is Rick Warren who wrote Purpose Driven Life. (I know there are many others, but he is one who comes to mind. & no, I’m not selling or plugging anything here.)
I am of the opinion that he gives a clear message of hope & has some very good tried & true lessons & methods regarding hearing from God.
You’ll know when you know, & I pray for you truth & knowledge necessary to help you as you walk in the perfect plan God has for your life.

@@rOnda88 I'm not stuck between two religions because of doctrine. I have earnestly sought for TRUTH my whole life. I'm stuck because of the fellowship with fellow believers. As Jesus said to me after I left the Mormon church, "Everyone loves those who believe as they do, who agree with them, but where is the love that sees ALL MANKIND as your brothers and sister? Seek THAT love!" I can feel love and fellowship for people in all kinds of churches, but I don't feel that they have the same sense love and fellowship with me because they all want to convince me that they're right and the other side is wrong. But, if we're to pray for our enemies, treat the disadvantaged of the world (the least of these) as if they were Christ why can't we simply dialog in love about differences of doctrine? It's the lack of love that makes me feel stuck. The idea that people who have different beliefs are somehow evil and to be preached against that makes me feel alienated.

I appreciate Jeff's testimony and his efforts to follow God and seek his inspirations. When he was contemplating changes to his life, he did not forget God. As it says in Matthew 6, he sought for the kingdom of God first. He took the time to contemplate the issue and ask for the inspiration he needed, and followed "the still small voice". This is the way all challenges in life should be approached -not assuming we have all wisdom on our own, or assuming we have God's wisdom without asking in all earnestness -willing to follow as God inspires.

I think it's important to point out that there is a culture inside the church that has, in recent years, been dismantling. The culture of the church is not Christ's restored gospel and this culture reminds me of the Israelites who had their own culture to turn away from. They needed a prophet to help them turn from their old ways to the Lords ways. To leave Egypt, to leave the customs, the culture and start over. It's because of our modern day prophet, President Russell M. Nelson, that these cultural issues have begun to be cut from the fabric of our faith. We have been instructed to use the correct name of the church and this has personally helpled me to start seeing more clearly who I am, who I serve, and who I worship. We love, honor and deeply respect Mormon, and all other prophets, but we are not Mormons! We are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and we recognize Him as our Savior and Redeemer!

With that being said, I would like to pique your curiosity in a different direction regarding the Book of Mormon. In my opinion, it is an enormous reduction, oversimplification, and overlooking of the Book of Mormon's complexity and message to see it as a collection of sermons reflecting views emerging from the 2nd Great Awakening. There are some radical messages in the book for those with eyes to see and ears to hear, which Joseph Smith would not have been able to guess or extrapolate from his environment. A great place to understand that better would be at the Interpreter Foundation. One can type in the phrase "book of mormon" in the search bar and start reading. Absolutely astounding insights there.

Jeff, here is one of many examples of the concept of "Church" to be found in the Hebrew scriptures:
"I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation (qahal) I will I praise thee." (KJV Psalm 22:22)
With your background, I'm sure you can identify many more as you wrestle with this difficult task of trying to replace criticism with curiosity. You are better at it than most of us. Keep going! You are doing great!
You are also, of course, very familiar with the account of Abraham being commanded to sacrifice Isaac. Fortunately, Abraham was relieved of this duty. However, there are a number of verses in the Hebrew Scriptures where God commands the faithful to kill someone else. With your background, you can find them, but here is one example that seems to apply to Nephi's situation:
"But if a man come presumptuously upon his neighbour, to slay him with guile; thou shalt take him from mine altar, that he may die." (KJV Exodus 21:14)
Laban had attempted to slay Nephi and his brothers with guile. Under the commandments of the Torah, he was supposed to be put to death as a consequence.
    Love, Your Brother,
    David

It is that people need to be open to receiving the message from big G. I amgoing back to Judaism. I am looking into Kaballah, yett I believe in the big G and J. They are all about Love and service to people. Interesting to hear about your religious quest. How you were questioning things as you ventured through you life. I've been watching The Chosen lately and I think an interesting point that came out of it was a lot of the underlying discussion about any LDS involvement. A lot of the discussion was unfortunately negative, but for me I saw that regardless of denomination the important point was that each individual involved had a focus on their personal relationship and journey with Christ. We all may be guilty of thinking this doesn't apply to those of other creeds but Christ invites all to come unto him.

I thought that i needed to find a new church because I still believe that Jesus Christ is my savior, however, in my experience, I found that the rest of Christianity hates Mormons. I questioned them about this and they said that they aren’t Christian’s and that they would go to hell because they didn’t believe in Christ. I told them that everyone I love is a Mormon and that they are Christian even though they believe a little differently. I got treated weird after that. Because of that I just do my own thing now. I believe in Christ without religion, but I thank you guys for being respectful and having this conversation. God bless ❤

To me, God is like a beautiful song. It posesses the power to divinely touch people from all nations, all backrounds, all religions, all skin colours, as well as people of any age, any race or any health status, all alike. One may feel inspired by it to dance, another one to write a book, another one to paint a pircture, another one to sing along, another one to stand still in awe. No matter how big the differences between the people, no matter how different the indvidual outcome, everyone has been divinely touched by truth, everyone has been edified and uplifted, has become one with God.
The moment certain people start coming along claiming that their individual outcome of having been touched by the divine is the "only true" way, and everyone elses outcome is of the devil, even if the fruits are obvious, has a very limited view of God.

Very much appreciating those who choose to understand and learn about my Latter-day Saint faith - and as an adult convert I, too, did massive amounts of searching and questioning and observing and learning myself before prayerfully finding my sure knowledge of the truthfulness of the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ - I always want to know if someone’s questioning is sincere and genuine and without an ulterior motive. That said, I’ve found most everyone has ulterior motives when discussing topics they have a passion for - especially topics that have crucial consequences when believing one way or another. Also, ulterior motives aren’t always negative when respect and thoughtful considerations are being applied and timing and patience are part of the purpose.
I wanted to share my sincere and exhaustive efforts to understand why the recent increase in podcasters (influencers) related to apparently sincere curiosity about my faith by non-Latter-day Saint members of various other Christian denominations. I had an “ah ha” moment with this particular interview that brought me back to numerous discussions I had with my non-LDS evangelical Christian father: That of wanting to lovingly warn me, show me the errors of my beliefs, (desperately) feeling the need to save me “before it was too late.” Jeff finally shared he wanted to be “available” should an LDS member have a faith crisis and need to find Jesus outside of Mormonism. As genuine and caring (and refreshingly respectful) as he has been throughout this past year of “discovery”, this “ulterior” motive would have been better disclosed from the onset of his videos to show credibility. (A favorite mentor of mine, Dennis Prager, prefers clarity to agreement which denotes to me I don't need to change you to appreciate and want to understand you.) Jeff was asked (and answered) a number of times what was driving him to spend so much time and effort on learning about one particular faith outside of his own. I suspect he (and the many others) chose NOW because it was triggered by (1) the signs of the times/last days/imminent Second Coming of Jesus Christ; and (2) after our “forced” quarantine during Covid where many had/took time to reconsider much about life and their lives in particular.
I am well versed in people feeling the need to “save” me -- from various Christian denominations to my agnostic and atheist friends and family. And I am well versed in how us Latter-day Saints are reminded to “share” our beliefs and eternal perspective with the world - with all of God’s children. Though often couched in a loving desire to help and share and “save”, hidden agendas are never a good way to build trust. The “desperation” side of many faiths who believe it is only during mortality that being “saved” can be accomplished, I truly appreciate the anxiousness of their mission. I’ve seen (first hand) how hard it is to live with that eventuality belief running in the background.
So, as with my father, in the meantime we can lovingly pray for one another, share our beliefs, support and share in one another's triumphs and burdens, and respectfully point out differences while being transparent about our motives and possible fears for the eternal consequences of choices made during mortality. We’ll all learn soon enough how our spiritual journey will move forward after death.

I do agree with the approach of engaging people friendly. I have learned since moving here to Utah though that you will eventually need to speak truth.
Otherwise you are not being genuine, your just being agreeable.
I like the saying that, truth without tact is cruel. Love without truth is indifference. If you really care for the LDS people, you first need to engage in relationship so that they know that you care. But inevitably, the truth that their church is false, harmful at times, and distracts a lot of people from Jesus’ grace needs to be talked about. Even when uncomfortable.
I liked your last video on independence Missouri. It was kind, but tackled some issues with this concept of a restoration.

I admire and appreciate the work that both of you are doing. I think the LDS church loves the attention that you are giving to every aspect of their church because you are showcasing their beliefs.
Unfortunately, after watching several of your studies, it all boils down to LDS staying staunch. There is a difference in getting along and making nice, and salvation. Because when we die, those who have stood strong with their beliefs and not wavered will meet their demise. Those who believe in the one, true God and followed Christ will be with him in eternity and the rest will perish. Are we actually helping anyone with these studies or are we just adding fuel to their fire? It's like seeing your child drowning and not being able to help them with fear that we will insult them.

Great podcast. I look forward to hearing more from both you and Jeff.
Steve, you told Jeff he will be surprised at what people will tell you. I hope, in this comment, to tell you a lot of things that I hope will surprise you.
First, some background. I was raised in the Mormon Church, but we were inactive and my father was not a member. His mother was actually a member of the Missionary Alliance Church in Portland, OR. She used to bring me to her church services and to hear evangelists when they came to town. She bought me several children's Bible books, which I read with great interest. I grew up in the Northwest. I had never been to a large Mormon church meeting until I was about 12, but we attended all the Protestant summer Bible schools with the neighborhood children.
I took it upon myself to educate myself in Mormonism. I used to go to the bishop's house and borrow his church books. I served a mission to Sweden, attended BYU, married in the temple. I baptized my father when I became a priest in the church.
I have been divorced and have left the church in 1982. I am now 76, living in Texas, and been with another ex-Mormon guy for 35 years, married for 8. He was the son of a Mormon Bishop, ex-temple marriage, ex-missionary. While the Mormon side of our families came from Utah, we both grew up outside Utah. His family actually joined the Mormons back in New York State. I had a great, great, etc. uncle who lived around Palmyra, NY. Joseph Smith copied some characters down from the Book of Mormon, and went shopping them around the area, trying to find somebody to be a financial backer. Joseph Smith showed them to my uncle, among probably many other people. My uncle told Joseph Smith, it was a bunch of phony nonsense and told him to forget the whole thing.
I haven't mentioned this to too many people, but in 1985, a couple of other guys and I felt called by the Lord to form a study fellowship for those people like us who were excommunicated from the LDS church for being gay. Personally, I felt we had a much bigger mission: to serve all those who felt distanced or disenfranchised from the main-line LDS church. We made the mistake of trying to form a full-blown legal entity of a church. The Lord never told us to do that. We got up t0 about 20-30 members, and people came in from the outside, and were attracted to the idea of having power over people. The church eventually collapsed. We should have stuck with the simple idea that the Lord taught Joseph Smith in our Doctrine & Covenants 10:67: the church of Christ is all those who repent and follow Him, and anything more or less than that comes of evil.
As a result of this experience, I am very much opposed to large organized religion. The best church services I ever attended were with my Baptist friend here in Texas. We met with college students their homes, sat on the floor, played guitars and sang Psalms out of the Bible.
I am no longer in the LDS church, but I still very much believe in the Bible, the Book of Mormon, and the other Mormon scriptures. Unlike most Mormons, I am one of a few of us who really take the teachings of the Book of Mormon seriously when they talk about Christ. There are a growing number of members and ex-members like me who love Christ with all our hearts and we feel the main church is putting too much emphasis on worshipping the leadership of the church, whom they consider to be "prophets".
There are a lot of people who feel like I do on Facebook. I believe that the way to reach this people is to teach about Christ, and use the Book of Mormon. Personally, I don't believe in in the stories of how the Book of Mormon came about, but I believe in the teachings in the Book of Mormon. There is a Baptist minister named Lynn Ridenhour. I believe he is based out of Missouri. He's all over Google. He believes in the Book of Mormon, as a Christian book, and teaches out of it. He might prove to be a valuable resource to both of you. Especially to Jeff, since he is in Missouri, too. Speaking of moving to Utah, the Mormons in Utah are a whole different breed than the Mormons around the country. Utah is a great place to meet contacts for your podcasts, but the place feels too "stuffy" and too "orthodox" for my liking. I think people in the outlying areas don't take the church as much for granted as they do in Utah, but at the same time people outside Utah as less strict about their Mormonism.
You don't have to believe in the LDS church, or all the claims of Joseph Smith to derive a great deal of good out of the Book of Mormon.
I plan on watching both you and Jeff's podcasts. I hope we can be friends as I bring a whole different perspective, but still well within the framework of the Restoration, and true Christianity. I am not a bitter apostate, an atheist, a fundamentalist, a polygamist, or a QAnon supporter. I am a disciple of Christ, married to another disciple of Christ. I was actually led to him by the Lord. When I met him, his Mormon bishop father had thrown him out of the house. He is handicapped, and was homeless. The Lord just said to me: "He's mine. Take care of him." And that's what I've been doing. But, I think it's more like he's taking care of me, while the Lord takes care of both of us.

I love the work that you two are doing. Steve, with all your books, have you read Christ in America? It is put out by the Church of Christ which is another break off from the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS. The book is an excellent history of the reformation, protestant beginnings. There was a number of people that were moved upon by God for this work but widely scattered. Eventually two men got together and talked about their beliefs and found that they didn't believe the same. However, one of them said, God is wise to make so many of us and scatter us so that they can't possibly kill all of us. This movement will go forward. That seems like what is happening again as various faiths feel drawn to get to know each other and work together with mutual respect. Why is this happening? We are in the end times. Separating wheat from tares. There is not going to be any middle ground anymore. Satan went to war with God before the foundations of the world and was cast out, along with one third of the host of heaven, to earth. God gave us agency but in order to use it there must be opposition so that we have choices to make. That same war between God and Satan is on going. Satan can't win but he wants to lead astray as many of God's children as possible. As things progress we will become more and more polarized. This is at the root of the work you and Jeff are doing. What do we share? Can we work shoulder to shoulder? There are only going to be two camps. I saw a video recently where someone mentioned to president Hinckley that there are so few members of the Church of Jesus Christ of LDS and how were we going to get everything done? Pres. Hinckley replied, you don't think that God is only using Mormons do you? We are all God's children. The work you are doing is so important. In the end times everyone who does not want to fight will band together for safety and the wicked will battle among themselves. Thanks for your work.

@@metacomputer Well it seams like Mormonism that Joseph was teaching with the Book of Mormon is actually trying to combine his Father's Universalist beliefs with his Mother's protestant beliefs.
It's not a bad concept and would actually solve a lot of problems in the Bible itself. Because what Mormonism is teaching is a Universalist salvation for all mankind and that all mankind are saved from the Great White Throne Judement through the "GRACE" of Jesus Christ and without any works at all on mankind's part. This is why I think Mormons are teaching that nobody ever born on earth will be sent to the outer darkness of hell. "Universal Salvation" for all mankind through pure "GRACE". Now that is Love!
I had to ask myself: "If Mormons believe all mankind are saved by strictly GRACE alone, then what is this confusion happening when they seam to talk about salvation for living a life of righteousness?"
Then I realized something that totally blew my mind what Mormons are talking about. The introduction to the Book of Mormon says the text in the Book is for preparation for the Judement Seat of Christ. 🔔 ding ding Mormonism is talking about a different kind of salvation. When Christians talk of salvation they are talking about salvation from the great white throne judgment, but when Mormons are talking about salvation, they are talking about salvation at the Judement Seat of Christ and that's why they put so much focus on WORKS.
Let me explain further: At the Judement Seat of Christ we are awarded Crowns of Glory based on our works. Mormonism teaches that they are awarded Kingdoms of Glory based on their works. As Christians we really don't think to much about the possibility that we can lose our crowns of glory by not performing the works required to get those crowns.
The crowns and kingdoms are symbolic to our Inheritance in the Kingdom of God and what Mormons are talking about when they say "saved" is a salvation from losing the inheritance promised to us based on their "WORKS".
This would make more sense out of their scripture that says "We know that it is by faith that we are saved after all we can do"
Because thay are talking about the Judement Seat of Christ and salvation from losing the inheritance awarded based on our works, then you can better understand that scripture to mean: We know that we are saved from losing our Inheritance after all we can do to obtain the work necessary to obtain our Inheritance.
Well this solves a lot of biblical teachings such as being saved by Baptism that has created a lot of confusion. Mormons just take any of the works and moves it over to the Judgment seat of Christ and uses salvation to mean salvation from losing our awards in heaven.
I ❤️ it.. very good stuff
Just get rid of the teachings from Brigham Young and all that garbage and I think Mormons are onto something.

This just popped up in my feed. I know it’s a year old, but hearing about their connection to John Dehlin and Mormon Stories is a HUGE RED FLAG! I had to rewatch the intro because I couldn’t believe my ears. That man has profited to the tune of $100s of thousands off the destruction of faith and families in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and others. His lies and misrepresentations are legendary. They’re then used as ammunition by the ignorant to perpetuate antiMormon sentiments throughout Christendom. His anti-Mormon and textbook anti-religious rhetoric manipulates the vulnerable to tear them away from their faith and plant them among his followers who pay $$$ for his services that guide them through the chaos HE created. It’s like a lawyer who instigates civil unrest to boost business. While I believe Jeff and Steven are well-intentioned and acting in good faith, I’m not surprised evangelicals as a whole connect with John the Pretender based on confirmation bias alone.
I fully support Steven and Jeff in their efforts to build bridges and healing and understanding between the faiths. But John Dehlin is a profiteering bridge burner not a builder. If any evangelical wants to build a bridge with Latter Day Saints, John Dehlin is not the way.

Just a loving encouragement that you're job is lead people to Jesus, clearly. I'm not the Holy Spirit, and if I'm way off base, just ignore, but I still can't tell what you're doing with this channel.

First of all it isn’t Mormonism. We do not worship the prophet Mormon. Followers of Christ were called Saints in the Bible. Sometimes they were called disciples, you could call us Christian’s which means followers of Christ which is Latter-day Saints exhibit the fruits most of any sect.

Most people won’t understand why the LDS church ran an “i am Mormon” campaign and then now does not want to use that word to describe the faith. It just comes off as defensive when you question why people use the terminology. Most won’t have the context into the reason for the change.

for future reference: "The term “Mormonism” is inaccurate and should not be used. When describing the combination of doctrine, culture and lifestyle unique to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the term “the restored gospel of Jesus Christ” is accurate and preferred." ~style guide from newsroom of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- Thank you

Why? Wasn't Mormon an LDS prophet and key figure in the LDS church and why would it be offensive to say Mormon if the main book of the church is in fact, the Book of Mormon?

While I agree wholeheartedly with the effort to make the correct name of our church more widespread, I'm still very much comfortable calling myself a mormon. Mormonism is not the same as the church of jesus christ of latter day Saints: the term can be used to describe all sorts of movements or affiliations connected to Joseph Smith's restoration. While the terms (obviously) overlap significantly, they are not the same

@@windywithachanceofsunshine5219 I don't get offended by being called Mormon and I don't think many would be. But it's just not the name of our church. So it isn't accurate. Plus, the main focus of our church is Christ and we want that to be known. We are not the church of Mormon.
I guess it would be like calling Christians Isaacs. Yes he's in the Bible and they believe he was a prophet. But he is not the reason for the religion

@@lizkt How did that ever come about? But it does make sense because you have the book of Mormon. The other puzzle is why does your church have Moroni on the steeple and not a cross? The cross signifies and identifies with Christ. We would never have an angel rather than something that identifies with Jesus himself.
Christians have always been called Christians because they follow Christ. No one would ever think to call them by a prophet name.
      Peace!

@@windywithachanceofsunshine5219 calling us Mormons actually didn't come from us at all. In the early days of the church, people started referring to the group as Mormons because of the book they published. And they actually used the Nick name more like an insult to look down on them. But the name stuck and we actually embraced it for quite a while as a Nick name since the title of our church is long. But in the last few years we have been encouraged to use the actual name and not the Nick name which doesn't reflect the purpose of our religion which is Christ.

The doctrine of being saved by grace with us doing nothing comes from a special emphasis that Jacobus Arminius, a dutch reformer CONTEMPORARY OF WESLEY. IT IS NOT FROM THE BIBLE AND IT DENIES THE BOOK OF JAMES AND OUR FREE AGENCY TO CHOSE WHATEVER WE WANT. CHIRT, ACCORDING TO Arminianism. AND MANY PROTESTANTS THEN BECOMES THE ONE THAT CARIES ALL OUR SINS AND WE HAVE TO DO NOTHING. Armenius was very big on this doctrine that emereged with Luther and others influencing Wesley a greatly. THIS DOCTRINE WHERE MAN HAS TO DO NOTHING BUT " ACCEPT CHRIST AS YOUR PERSONAL LORD AND SAVIOR IS NOT BIBLICAL AS MANY HAS SUPPOSED, IT PERMEATED TO AMERICA WITH PROTESTANT SCHOOL OF THOUGHT AND HAS INFLUENCED THE DOCTRINE OF MANY OF THE PROTESTANT BRANCHES IN AMERICA AND MANY PLACES IN THE WORLD. TO RECEVE GRACE, ONE HAVE TO HAVE FAITH AND FAITH WITHOUT WORKS IS DEAD. STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK OF JAMES. MORE CONFUSING IS THE EXISTENCE OF 26 DIFFERENT BIBLES.

I have to disagree with both of you. Asking difficult questions about the claims of a faith is not being unkind. People in another faith can be nice kind people but they might believ something that is nonsence. Saying that I hope I dn't get gaslighted.

IMO, asking tough questions in a loving, compassionate manner is a healthy and beneficial approach. I'm nearly 75 years old, raised in the RLDS/COC tradition, and have interacted with many people from other traditions and religions.
I love to learn about what others believe, why they believe in their beliefs, and their path to God. I never had a desire to change their beliefs but only to learn how we were more alike, not different. I have to admit that there were confrontational discussions at times when others informed me that I was wrong in my beliefs, that I was not Christian, and that I was going to hell. But, the majority of those conversations were ones that helped me along my path.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
