      Yeah I remember Elsa small chat with the blue hair little girl that controle monsters.
      Elsa explained that Subaru's eyes pissed her off so that's why she poked one of them.
      She killed so many people but always saw 2 reactions: -Resignation & acceptation of Death
      Or
      -The will to fight until the end
      .
      Subaru eyes were like saying "I have a 3rd option" I don't care, just finish me so I go to the next step.
      Of course for us viewer it make sense but it must have been very confusing for Elsa.

    Lol this is season 1 cut content. They both directly talked about it on the carriage ride to the royal selection commencement in the novel, and mention it briefly and vaguely in the anime. If you don’t know to look for it, it’s hard to pick up the hints. But the anime cut a ton of things that don’t have immediate consequences, because they didn’t think they would get more than 2 seasons. The season 2 ends on a pretty massively different note than the anime for example, because they didn’t know they would get a season 3.

      afaik there is absolutely no hint or mention that Al may be from another world in season 1. he just comes off weird and mysterious because of his nature which is inherent to him, regardless of you knowing about his past or not.

    Season 2 break time had one of my favorite scenes, which was Meili mourning Elsa, so i've always considered break times the after-credits episode extenders, so it's not really a big "wow" for me as I quite literally imagined a Aldebaran reveal in a break time, though the scene i envisioned for season 3 would involve Rem too.

    • @xyouthe
      @xyouthe Місяць тому +1

      idk mannn meili mourning elsa is minor enough that it makes sense, like its a supplementary thing to the plot rather than a super-important piece of knowledge. Al's reveal on the other hand its crucial to the plot of re:zero through and through. i dont think this was the way to do it, and im only saying this for the sake of the casual anime watchers. most of them will definitely miss this and be confused later.

    Honestly the skipped content videos that some content creators make cover important or at the very least great background lore for these stories. Another show i read and slightly bummed it had cut content is Konosuba. I just hope that if these animes get a remaster/remake they cover the skipped content. I can also understand pacing and other issues that arise from adapting manga/light novel/etc into an animation. As someone who works in Hollywood, sometimes it can just be the suits at the top ruining everything.

      Honestly, the most common explanation I hear about why they cut important info out, is that the director of Re:Zero, Watanabe Masaharu, didn’t believe that Re:Zero would succeed, so he cut out all the info that isn’t immediately important-meaning, removing all the Chekhov’s guns and foreshadowings.

      It's not a big deal. It will become apparent in the main series when it becomes important. The break times have always included cannon cut content excluding the 12 petit episodes, and personally I'm thankful that this stuff is being adapted at all. Literally no other anime is getting the kind of treatment that Re:Zero gets. I don't understand why people are looking a gift horse in the mouth and complaining over 50 episodes in when the break time episodes have been a staple of the series since episode 1 of season 1. The only unfortunate thing is that Crunchyroll has not been licensing them since after season 1, so you have to look on youtube or other less reputable sites for them.

  • @flyingeagle3898
    @flyingeagle3898 Місяць тому +15

    I am very upset by this.
    I completely understand why this info was skipped in season 1, because in 2016 they knew it would be a long time till they got a second season (if ever) so they skipped everything in arc 3 that had to do with foreshadowing, and any information that might become relevant in future arcs. It's sad that they didn't get the opportunity to reveal it then, and create the kind of references you see in one piece that are releveant much later in the story and this particular reveal would have gotten me way more invested in the re-zero world had I seen it as an anime only in season 1, but such is often the fate of book adaptations compared to manga and why it happened in season1/arc 3 is understandable. Most of the cut material/mistakes at least had the potential to be fixed in later arcs.
    However, at this point in the story Al's info is absolutely 100% critical to the main story and will be extremely relevant to the end of arc 5, and not revealing it asap in that Main story is a big mistake, doing it in a Chibi short as the first animated reveal is such a poor decision that it was the subject of dark humor in the re-zero fandom as the delay kept coming, overall Whitefox is doing an above average job at adapting the LN, but for a mystery series like re-zero leaving out bits like this for so long does reduce the theorizing possible, and damage the impact of interactions between characters, and as a result damage several of the main things that draw people into the series compared to its potential. At this point the knowledge of Al's background serves as an increasingly critical basis for events leading up to the end of this arc and future arcs.

    I don't see what the big deal is. The break time episodes have always been cannon and included cut content ever since Season 1 with the exception of the 12 petit episodes in season 1. They've literally aired one after every single episode to date. This is nothing new. People should have always been watching these. Although, it's unfortunate that Crunchyroll didn't license the season 2 or 3 break time episodes, but Season 3 break time episodes are on Kadokawa's youtube channel and there is always a guy in the comments who translates the whole thing and subbed versions can be found on other less reputable sites as well. Season 2 break time epsiodes can also mostly be found on youtube with a search or other less reputable sites. If anything people should be thankful that they adapt cut content like this at all because literally no other show gets this kind of treatment. Again though, it is unfortunate that Crunchyroll has not been licensing these after season 1 though.

      "The way he talks should have hinted that" for someone criticizing people for not being able to figure it out, you sure suck at thinking as well. At least the anime watchers had multiple reasons to not know. 1, nobody in the Re Zero world noted that Al talks weirdly nor Subaru noted that the way he talks sounds familiar. 2, They're non japanese so it's obvious they won't pick up when Al is talking in a specific japanese way to prove that he's an isekai character nor will they understand japanese idioms. 3, barely any interactions with Subaru, he appeared in 3-4 episodes in which he interacted with Subaru for like 3-4 times and never saw him again. This happened in what? 2016-2017? It's been almost a decade since we last saw him. Your bread analogy doesn't work because it assumes you saw someone going to a bakery and buying bread. Did the anime watchers see Al talking weirdly? No. With all this information at hand, why are you so shocked that the anime watchers didn't figure it out? In fact, what made you doubt that Al was an isekai character in the first place?

    I am a critic of the anime, i think is ok but i dont think that it is the master piece everyone says it is, one of the reasons is this, it depends too much on external content to complement its plot and characters, most of the people who read the novel dont care because they already know so they just fill what the anime doesnt explain with that knolowge but anime onlys might miss tons of context for not reading the novel, watching the shorts, etc etc this applies to all animes, not just Re Zero, if an anime needs you to go read or watch something else to get important info then is failing as an adaptation

      The AL info is much much more important than either of those things.
      I would love for them to have been adapted but they are characters/events that won't be relevant till much later in the story, and might be adapted when they become relevant. The AL info is relevant THIS ARC and serves as the first basis for understanding a ton of critical plot points at th end of arc 5 leading into all future arcs.
      For the integrity of the story skipping Clind, and the end of season 2 are less important versions of cutting the Al info out of season1/arc 3 (annoying but not that important to understanding the plot)

    This was a truly terrible decision on whoever made the call. This exact conversation between Al and Subaru couldve been in a main episode pretty easily. yea it would be kinda out of the blue, but at least anime only viewers would know this VITAL plotpoint. Without spoiling anything, this is much more than simply characterization for Al

    • @loonr_
      @loonr_ Місяць тому

      They can still bring it up during Subaru and Al’s convo, which would most likely happen around episode 7. It won’t be as direct and will probably be subtle, but I’m sure it’s possible if added as an anime original scene

    • @Heidelmann
      @Heidelmann Місяць тому

      But then we'd need half an episode explaining Al's backstory and he'd become some sort of giver or with holder of information to Subaru. The story doesn't need to put that kinda focus on Al right now.

    Just gotta say Read the web novel!
    It makes you feel like the anime is basically taking random big scenes with all the important inner dialogue exposition removed…
    You only hear Anything explain by Betty pretty much…
    It’s why I think each arc should get a season or more to incorporate all of an arc by this point of the story…
    But we’ve all known all this stuff cut from the anime for 5-10 years!
    But it is irritating to remember half the people watching have NO IDEA what kinds of powers the protagonist has because they’ve not heard his inner thoughts from the beginning & only heard his cringey dialogue from his first arc which contrasts his otaku realising he’s been ísèkaîed character development arc where he thinks he can Just Become the Knight without consideration for the Meaning of such titles, etc. Which… is what sets up his complex relationship with Julius back then so it can develop in this arc and the next… so This Season…
    I remember so many times how people would say “man I wonder how they’re gonna handle Revealing how important a character Al is and ALL the ‘Al Is Barasu’ theories once they have to remind people of his arc 1 dialogue of being stuck for… was it 400 or 800 years he says and then explains how he spends time learning about how there must be someone before him who was from Japan because of Japanese stuff in A Place… cause that stuff comes up again in Arc 5 & having Cut Al’s Important but somewhat Distracting Major Reveal about Subaru the World & the Mystery of the few people from Japan over 800 years Is Kind of a Big Deal and NOT something you can Just Leave Out…”
    Or Whatever people used to say in comments sections about this whenever talking about Later Al stuff… along with “man I feel bad for the anime only people…” etc. usually because of saying that you won’t really understand more than half of Everything going on for the whole story if you’ve not read the webnovel and lightnovel or At Least heard people talk about everything happening & the theories popular at the time & what Tappéī would confirm or deny or reveal casually in conversation somewhere…
    Hehehe
    It’s Chaos seeing that There REALLY ARE people having the shock to a reveal from 4 arcs earlier that never got animated… I forget what the story was but I think it was something about thinking it was distracting and only important for people ACTUALLY following the story after the anime…
    Like “clearly this is Just to Promote sales of this lightnovel so… we don’t have to Actually Adapt things properly as though details will become important eventually… all the fans think he’s old failure subaru anyway so let’s Leave that scene out…”
    Which if I remember right the big complaint was that when they made a version with all the deleted scenes they couldn’t include they left out this conversation entirely… & it’s probably because most of the intense stuff happens in subarau’s head Processing the information, asking more questions, learning about stuff that goes unaddressed til Arc 5 or NOW when they are just acting like we should All Already Know despite Only people that read the webnovel and/or light novel & listened to people talk about them for hours have any idea that these things Already Happened…
    It’s like if you redid DBZ & cut out… Vegeta… & then have him just be the weird guy hanging at bum as house from the time he invaded Earth earlier Off Screen… : D
    Well maybe it’s not THAT heavy an omission of details but… it’s like Not having Raditz talk about Saiyans at all in a DBZ remake…
    “Yeah let’s NOT include these integral details connecting subaru & aldebaran because it’s Too Distracting & We don’t even know if any of that stuff will come up again! Let the other guys handle it or tell em to buy the lightnovels! Ha!”
    (Or that’s how they sound in my imagination …& I’m only Half Joking…)
    All we needed was a “remember what I told you when you first showed up? ” & maybe it’d have taken a minute or two but it is kind of important for reminding the people that didn’t at least listen to some reading of the lightnovel or web novel, even if it’s just your computer reading it…
    There’s a Lot of tildas in arc 6 webnovel and each time it says “Tilda!” After important moments to the point of forcing oneself to ignore the word entirely to process the stuff being revealed or explained…hehe I do have concerns How they even adapt some of arc 6… I forgot how crazy arc 5 could be visually…
    But man it’s good to still see the story animated fairly well where a lot of things are handled exceptionally… I just hope they don’t keep cutting all the deep headtrip moments because that’s functionally abandoning the communication of the experience of arc 6 if they continue ignoring communication of Barasu’s Thoughts!
    So many moments we need the inner monologue because that how it’s done in the story…
    Honestly that’s the Real Adventure is the amount of crazy headtrips this guys forced into somehow…
    I actually wanna relisten to Atc 5 cause I remember less action & more processing constant revelations about countless things in such interesting ways… I can’t recall how many chapters they’ve covered and how much stuff is mashed around removed or written in to tell a slightly different version… the web novel and light novel as still different as well but I forget how many differences there are and which things since people were considering that maybe Al didn’t reveal anything yet so that it could be done in season 3 when they rewrite src 5… or something along those lines…
    Now I sound like I’m having a conversation with myself so I gotta bounce hehe

    As a decade long Re Zero fan who has been critical of the anime adaptation, it feels kinda vindicating that anime onlies start to realize that the complaints weren't about "wrong music being used" or "Subaru's testicles weren't in the right positions in that scene".
    No, the anime has some insane cut content issues when it comes to the core mysteries of the show. It is by no means a bad adaptation. It nails the emotional story, the character development and with voiceacting it even surpasses the source material. But as a time-travel mystery it is a fucking failure of an adaptation.
    The craziest part is that this is ONLY the surface when it comes to cut content. Even with just Aldebaran, this was only one of the many cut scenes and revelations that they finally added back.
