The guy absolutely hit the nail in the head!! She had a troubled childhood with her abusive father.
Her father is still alive. When she was young, her father would physically and verbally abuse her mother. Her mother took Christina and her sister and left him to keep them safe. She does not have much of a relationship with him now. This song was written by Linda Perry about her own father who had just recently passed at the time and their complicated relationship.

I’ve always loved this song, and her voice was incredible! I felt the emotion! I don’t think I’d ever seen the video, but I did know a little about her relationship with her father, which made the song more profound. It’s a haunting song, for sure.

Okay I just cried my eyes out. It’s been a while since I heard this song and forgot how emotional it was. I lost my dad this past December. We didn’t have the best relationship, he was always in and out of my life. He had a stroke a couple years ago, which altered his personality a lot. It made it even harder because it doesn’t change the absence in the past but you feel badly about any lingering resentment when he was sick and didn’t remember any of it. He passed away Christmas night and it’s just hard to reconcile all the emotions from it. This song/video really brought it all back up. It was a beautiful song.

She grew up in Rochester and Wexford, Pennsylvania, about a few hours from where I live. Probably why I like her so much.

LINDA PERRY wrote this song after her own father died for issues they had between them. She let Christina sing it-- and it is so beautiful and so sad... makes me weepy every time I hear it. IT is to late to say I'm sorry, to repair relationship.

I dont think Xtina's dad died, i know they are not like "family" cuz she revealed that her and her Mother suffered domestic violence But i think the video fits the retro vibe of that specific album of that year (2006) Back to Basics and also Linda revealed that she worked the lyrics thinking about her dad and xtina wrote a few verses too and Aguilera revealed in a Talk show this song Hurt is the song she doesnt like to sing live.

Her father is infamously known for being a troubled element in her life but he is still alive. Hurt was wrote by Linda Perry for Xtina 2006 album not 2009 (this is the year it was uploaded in UA-cam). Linda is the one who wrote Beautiful and this is Linda who wrote specifically about her own father who passed but Christina felt a strong link with the song. Her father was never there for her and even mistreated her and her mom, it was said that she was around 6 and he slapped her and threw her down the stairs because she sang too loud while he was resting so he snapped. He was a sergeant in the US army. You should react to the song *I’m ok* from her stripped album. It says it all. It’s Christina most intimate and sad song from 2002. A pure jewel 💎. Wow, I thought it was the cover that Johnny Cash did, boy was I wrong, but I still liked it, it had an interesting story, I felt there was a little disconnect from the video & the songs lyrics. Christina chose to cut her father from her life for a very long time. He actually wrote her a letter to apologize and she did not respond. It took her years to connect with him so she then wrote this song. Her relationship with him is still not good though.
