- This collection of OLD FLORIDA PICTURES (circa 1880-1902) captures the time and spirit when people and cargo were transported via our many rivers in Florida and the railroads. Before roads came to Florida, the rivers were king. Photography was not for poor people back then so many of these scenes reflect what life was like then for the well to do. The camera work, sharpness and focus reflected in these scenes was surprising to me. Enjoy this trip back into Florida's lovely past.
Very nice. I seem to be so curious about Florida then and now. Thank you.
The music was an unfortunate choice. I apologize for that. It doesn’t really go with the pictures I agree wholeheartedly.
at least you said it.
Feb. 2021 Thank you for the pictures.
I love these old photo's. I've been living here in East Central Florida since 1969. As much as I really appreciate you posting these old photo's, I was rather disappointed with the total lack of information to go with them. I know, there were actually captions for each photo, but they were not intended for being seen in a video, and therefore unreadable.
+Howabouthetruth I lived in Brevard County myself and find this so very cool. And you're right about the captions.
+Howabouthetruth The producer did state in another post that he had additional information about the photos if you wanted to know more. He left his email address below.
Very well done and documented ;)
Thank you for the kind words. Reid
Those gate pilars are still standing at St Augustine 3:00
The picture of the Native American woman and her children was the most interesting picture of this video. I Could not help examining their dress and their gaze towards the cameraman. I thought that the Seminoles were gone by that time, This is a very interesting picture. I wonder how their lives were, and how they faired with all that new technology Flagler and others were bringing from New York? I feel sorry for the heritage of people being destroyed and uprooted by other people like them. Life on earth for us, humankind, has been a great tide of injustice and evil exercised between us. The weak are always the victim, until the turn comes around and destroys the strong, usually by a former weakling.
I enjoyed the photographs. I wished I could have read the captions on each photo. I could make out some of them, but most were a blur. I kinda wished the pace of the viewing was a little slower to enjoy the photo.
Old videos on youtube for some reason are terrible quality.
I have high quality photos of all of the pictures used in this video as well as information about the places and years they were taken. If you want any pix identified or free copies of any of them please let me know at miamireid@gmail.com.I hope that you enjoyed this look back into the past.

It may not go with the pictures. But it is great music. Who is it?
