I live 25 miles away from where Liebherr builds these mining machines (Colmar, France). You seem to operate on different gears (Cat, Komatsu, etc) so can you tell me what you actually think of Liebherr's products ? The R996 has always been my favourite machine but I always wondered what professionals like you thought about it. All the best from France
Liebherrs are the best. They have the most dig power, the mist operator friendly layout and footprint/clearance than the rest. Followed by komatsu. Hitachi and Terex/o&k/cat are pretty equal, both are quick but lack the dig power of liebherrs and komatsu. Hitachis tend to have abit more reach than equivalent sized models from other manufacturers but they have very poor machine clearances and tend to get damaged more often. The 996 is my preferred machine. It doesnt really have an equal in terms of size (it's almost 700tonne with 20m reach) however by bucket capacity, the terex rh340/cat6060 and the hitachi ex5600 both are capable of a 34m3 bucket, but again they lack the dig power and reach of the 996. Also the newer 996B is capable of a 36m3 bucket size. All in all, liebherrs are the best for dig power, reach and machine clearance, theyre compact and operator friendly although maybe no maintenance friendly (very small tight areas for mechanics and fitters to work in.
+MOOOFUSSA Thanks for this very detailed answer ! Btw, I was in Germany this week for Bauma 2016 and, in case you didn't see it, check this video out (on UA-cam) : "Komatsu PC7000 gigantic oil leak at Bauma 2016" ;-) Cheers"
