Born/raised in Chicago, been eating Portillo’s for many years. Dad used to go to Dick Portillo’s original “dog stand” before they made it big. The best beef 🥩 sandwich 🥪 ever, lean, tasty, beef, turano roll with perfectly seasoned Au jus. Outstanding cheese 🧀 fries 🍟, best cheese sauce. Hot Dogs 🌭 are good, they do have the skins. Their hamburgers have potential but are charbroiled/terribly overcooked, dry. I wish they would allow rare but all burgers 🍔 are cooked the same. Great shakes, salads & outstanding catering for parties 🎉.
I don’t know if it’s because he’s from the NorthSide or not (Southsider, here), but your friend should know it’s ‘gravy’ not au jus. And I’ve decided that ‘glizzy’ is the new ‘moist’. Just, no. Otherwise, good choices. You can also get your beef with mozz, American, cheddar or even the cheddar cheese sauce. Not sure I’d recommend any of them other than the mozz, personally, but when talking about different ways to order your beef - dipped, wet, dry(why?), sweet or hot peppers, don’t forget you can also add cheese.
You chicagoans call au jus gravy cuz you always gotta redefine OG New York italian culture. Everybody knows gravy is tomato based pasta sauce. That thing you call gravy is French, not eyetalian.
Kristen OMG loved the Portillos video. Our closest Portillos is about an hour away it’s now on the to do list. Your editing was great keep pushing the production. Trust me I have a few editing Emmy’s on my shelf. Loved it keep it going ❤
Gotta dip the dipped beef in the cheese sauce! The strawberry short cake and burgers are also iconic Portillos. Ask Ryan if hes ever been to Kopps in Milwaukee (best burgers, onion rings, and frozen custard ever)!
there's a portillos by Disneyland. I like the chili cheese hot dogs and fries u should try em next time. I'm getting that whole chocolate cake for my birthday too !
I love that you liked the maxwell street polish more with mustard, Ryan. Watching your eyes light up when you bit into it was awesome. Hope you join Kristen ok more fast food reviews.
We are here in Northwest Indiana and Portillos is the best, glad you enjoyed it! Im sure Ryan is so incredibly happy to have a taste of home in Orlando.
Grew up on Portillos while living in the Chicagoland area and they are the best “fast food” restaurant! Beef and Cheddar Croissant is my all time favorite sandwich from them!
Although I've seen you in other videos with other content bloggers; just started watching your videos and have enjoyed each and every one of them. I was actually over at White Castle and driving to see what else was around the complex I spotted you outside for a brief moment, yes, going into Portillo's...definitely will need to try the vanilla/lemon shake; sounds refreshing. Keep those videos coming.
Hey Kristen we're Mitchell Family on your Patreon...great video, love the chocolate cake but last time we tried the chocolate eclair cake and it was amazing, maybe worth a try next time!
My daughter ate at Portillo’s in Orlando recently. She loved it and said the next time I’m visiting her, we had to eat there. We never got the chance when I was there a few weeks ago, but she was home visiting last week and mentioned eating there. I didn’t even know there was one about 15 minutes from my house!! I thought it was very good. Any time I’m at a restaurant that has french dip on the menu I’m going to order it, so Portillo’s “gravy” was perfect for me. The onion rings were delicious. Nice and crispy and not greasy. And the onion doesn’t pull out when you take a bite. I’ll definitely be going back. And I agree with you on the peppers. My mouth was burning after my first bite!!
The first Portillos I ate at (North Riverside Mall) and subsequently, ate lunch there often started my love of the chain in 1978. Never heard it referred to as a French dip and believe thats blasphemy. It has italian spices and oil. You want a fast french dip go to Arby's. The closest Portillos is 8 hours from me now and you best believe its a nice weekend trip.
I have 2 favorites: #1. Char-Broiled Cheeseburger (best fast food burger!😋) #2. Beef & Cheddar Croissant (the famous Italian beef layered with cheddar cheese and served on a toasted croissant).😋
The only bad thing about moving to this area is being able to door dash Portillos with such ease 😂🤣. I can't get enough of that beef and cheddar croissant.
I just came back from Chicago last week and we ate at Portillo's for the first time. The beef and cheddar croissant was delicious. I missed out on getting a Chicago dog though. I'll probably be in FL before I'll be in IL again so I'll have to to try it.
oh! never been to Portillos- but im kinda loving the idea of ditalini pasta on the salad! and, yes, Italian beef / hot roast beef always needs to be soaked with au jus. And the chocolate shake is an obvious yes.
Love an Italian beef with a little extra gravy, fries and cheese. Also their chop salad with house dressing is great. You have to try the lemon cake shake.
The chopped salad is the best thing at Portillos as well as the chocolate cake and shake. For the rest of the food, go to Buona Beef if you are ever in the Chicago area. Better beef and better hot dogs.
Is that the Portillo's next to White Castle? We love that place and always visit when we go to Orlando. My go to choices are the Chicago style dog and the chili cheese dog! Thanks for showing various menu items!
Grew up inner city South Side near Hyde Park. Our street corner hot dog vender never put sport peppers or a pickle on the hot dog with a plain bun. Always thought that was the correct way to eat a Chicago dog. Maybe it was a South Side thing. 😊
I think you gotta give the burger a try. I do cheese, red onions, pickles, mustard & ketchup. The beef is amazing quality. Lettuce & tomatoes are overkill for this burger
I noticed you guys avoided the burgers. smart. someone told me the burgers were really good there as well. so, I tried a cheese burger AT THE HWY 192 LOCATION ACROSS FROM MARGARITAVILLE RESORT. they pulled the beef patty out of a warming drawer and Then put the lettuce, tomato, onion, sauces AND A COLD SLICE OF CHEESE ON THE BURGER! WHO DOES THAT?!?! WHO MAKES A CHEESE BURGER WITH A COLD SLICE OF CHEESE?!?!?!?! 🙂
For a real deal Chicago dog go to Hot Dog Heaven, wonderful. They have all of there ingredients shipped in from Chicago. They are as authentic as it gets.
Oh, Ryan, nooooooo. Italian beef, mozzarella, sweet peppers (hubby gets hot giardiniera) and extra "gravy" on the side to dip into so no sogginess at all, just loads of flavor. Also, he didn't call the au jus "gravy,", so exactly where in Chicago does he claim as home? 😂
Maxwell's suck here. If you want a real Maxwell, you need to go to Jim's Original and get a real, best-in-Chicago, Polish. Oh and don't wimp out and not get the sport peppers. Sport peppers for the win. Not a fan of the chocolate cake shake, but the cake itself is the bomb. Onion rings are hit and miss because most of the time I get them, they are burned. And enough with the glizzy. It is a Vienna beef hot dog, topped with the ingredients that make it a Chicago-style hotdog, the best in the US. Better than NY. And where are the peppers for your beef? Good for you to not get cheese on it because Italian beef doesn't and shouldn't have cheese on it.
I wanted to get info on portillo's and now I am not impressed. No hot dog, beef ok with side of jus, onion rings ok, fries so-so, sausage looks good....a letdown for me..
Ate at this place it was the nastiest food of all time. The hot dogs were smashed when we got them in the wrapping and tasted like a $1 711 gas station hot dog. Never again.
I grew up in Berwyn Portillo's is a nice all in one shop for this stuff. But Parky's does fries better. Next closest would be Gene And Jude's. Buona is superior for Beef. Just hate that they've gone the whole "We are an "Italian" eatery"...route. Mr. Beef is great too. But, as I said, if you want a place wwhere you can get "decent" sevings of any and everything? Dick's House Of Cullinary sin is a one stop shop. They wouldn't have hung on this long if they weren't. I just got spoiled by my proximity to so many great places in easy reach.
A Portillo's customer for over 45 years.. Love the beef dipped with 2 sides of gravy 😋
Born/raised in Chicago, been eating Portillo’s for many years. Dad used to go to Dick Portillo’s original “dog stand” before they made it big. Italian Beef sandwiches my favorite. I love it when you and Ryan take us outside the park. Chocolate cake shakes are my go-to for sure!
I tried Portillo's for the first time last year while visiting Chicago for the first time. They definitely won me over!
As a Chicago Southsider, Italian Beef sandwiches are never pretty, but they are delicious. You guys got it the right way (dipped).
All mayo is ... eggs and oil...which would be in a cake anyway! Food looks amazing!
Hi Kristen!

I have been! It was sooo good 😋
Great menu choices, but hearing a Chicago dog called a Glizzy just hurts my ears.
Love your content!
Just subscribed to your channel. You did not disappoint! You and Ryan make great Foodie Buddies!
Thanks! 😊
i would totally get the cake shakes and that chocolate cake! dessert is always first for me
there's a portillos by Disneyland. I like the chili cheese hot dogs and fries u should try em next time. I'm getting that whole chocolate cake for my birthday too !

I'm so glad you all tried the Maxwell Street Polish. It's very underrated and I can't find anything like it in Atlanta.

Beef and Cheddar Croissant is my all time favorite sandwich from them!
Northwest side of Chicago here, and it's Johnnie's and Gene and Jude's all day.

The chocolate eclair cake is delicious!👍🏼
I love the Chicago style hot dog I always have. My husband likes The Italian beef. There are awesome😊😊😊
Can you do a review of Beefy King? Always been interested in that place 😊
I have been wanting to go there so bad! I’ll add it to the list
Philly, PA Has the Cheesesteak Sub & Chicago, IL Has the Italian Beef Sub. May the Best Sub Win. (smile)
The Onion Rings taste better at White Castles! :) Just my opinion. :)

Love Portillos! Dipped is the only way to go! The best Italian beef ever!
Ok I just started watching I will take the chocolate cake shake and the onion rings ❤
Funny I made a Chicago style hotdog this weekend.
The only bad thing about moving to this area is being able to door dash Portillos with such ease 😂🤣. I can't get enough of that beef and cheddar croissant.
A lot of people in these comments hyping up this beef and cheddar croissant. I must get it next time I go
Dipped is the ONLY WAY!!!!!!! A favorite where I am from!

I really wish we had Portillo’s in Japan😢.
Chicago love ❤❤❤❤
Glad you liked the mayo cake!
Try the Italian beef and cheese croissant. One of those and the chopped salad are my go to!
You guys didn’t get a cheeseburger those are so delicious one of my favorite things from portillos!

I did get a lemon cake shake! Did you miss that part?

chicago dog, no rellish, iteilan beef hot/sweet dry ( 1/4)

oh, and if you join the Portillo's Birthday Club you can get a free slice of cake for your b-day!
We are having Portillo’s for lunch! We live just south of Chicago though

Yes! Right next to the huge White Castle
White Castle stinks
Kristen, you need to try Chicago Dog over in Altamonte. They are so delicious, and locally owned by two sisters from Chicago.
Should do a food series of eating outside of the parks around the Disney World bubble
It’s common to add mayo to chocolate cake. Makes cake really moist.
Okay I don’t usually leave disney property but I might wanna go try this!!
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yummmmmmy!!! Dip your fries in the Au Jus its AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I get the beef sandwich dry with cheese and put my meat juice on the side for dipping. Wet bread makes me feel like a duck. Lol

Yes, the burgers can be disappointing, a bit over cooked for me and the price
I would have put that cheese sauce on all of the hotdogs and the roast beef sandwich also. 😂😂
ooooh I wanna try this
It's just like vinegar is the key ingredient to a red velvet cake you would never guess that it's in there
I’m confused , lol. Is Ryan your brother or a friend ? Because in your ohana video with your mom ,you said he was your brother .
Brb going to grab another one of those Cake Shakes 🏃♂️
A lemon one right?
@@wrightdownmainstreet NO NO ABSOLUTELY NOT
Chopped salad👍
The salad looked great but I would leave the Gorgonzola cheese 😊
Portillos lemon cake is awesome. It used to be seasonal. i am not sure anymore.

Doesn’t seem you like it too much will keep it in Chicago. I got the best crinkle fries also the best hotdogs
Did Ryan steal that hat from Nate? Lol
Isn’t Ryan your brother? Didn’t you say you grew up in New Jersey?

Don't ever start with a salad; it will mess with your digestion
You should expect mustard on anything that looks like a dog at a Chicago based place.
And you gotta get some cake
Maybe I miss heard but I thought you said Ryan was your brother in your Ohana video? Are you two related?
My brother from another mother :)
