You've been at it again. Nestera international ambassadors. This time cleaning out your coops. As Shaun @ Happy days veg might say, you will be getting a whole load of fans scattered globally across the world. 😀

Do you need to wash the inside again after the candle, or is it good to go? Do you have to worry about the spores being in the soil?

No need to rinse after the sulphur candle. The combination of Jeyes and sulphur dioxide will certainly disinfect the surface of the soil

@@EnglishCountryLife Hi there - I was wondering the same sort of thing about the water used by the power washer - it ends up in the soil, doesn't it? Is that good enough for what you need next year? Could you use that soil to grow plants in, or do you just rest containers on it? Such basic questions, I do apologise! I'm determined to use my suburban garden to the utmost next year.

I don’t fully understand the transmission of tomato blight spores but would it be helpful to use the sulphur candle before clearing out the old plants from the greenhouse?

It's an interesting thought but not really. The sulphur dioxide gas acts on the organic material so by removing and burning the old plants first we leave high concentration of the gas to get into hard to reach areas rather than get used up on the plants. Or at least that's the theory!

Just found your site. Loved the content. The best how to clean the greenhouse video and I've watched more than ten today. How much sulphur powder did you use? I have a 8' x 8' aluminium greenhouse.

Thanks so much Patricia! I use about 300ml for a 12' x 8' so about 200ml (2/3 of a large baked bean tin) should be ample. 1 kilo of sulphur will do several treatments.

Blight spores only survive on living plants. 👍 👍

      The RHS thinks otherwise
"Resting spores that can survive the winter and infect crops in subsequent years are also reported but it is unclear how important they are in Britain."
