And to think people thought the northern array was only for early warning for the U.S and Canada. Needs updating but iltye North has the biggest radar and satellite dish arrays im aware of. Good to inow it watches over Europe as well. Canada and the U.S are both difficult countries to invade and with the artic ocean thawing it makes sense to speed up early warning systems like ocean underwater detection and air detection systems. Im sure other countries have them, i just know that the U.S and American systems know what plane and where it came from and what ship size and capability are beyond our shores before anything gets close
Really interesting to see the propaganda from the 50s. Helps to understand why the west european settlers see Turtle Island as their promised land, as the narrative in this propaganda frames it like so. It’s also interesting that they have acknowledged the lack of artistic drive and purpose that permeates the european settlements in Turtle Island (in order to sell the canadian dream, they had to erase Turtle Island culture; it can be quite disturbing to be reminded through native art and culture that the land you live in was stolen). They re-frame the Inuit as happy ‘eskimos’ when they were fighting for their lives against an invasive imperial project. Quite chilling to watch this. Dark history.
Just a PSA from me and it has 0 to do with NATO, please refrain from calling my inuit relations Eskimos it is derogatory and they are far more than the raw fish eaters the name implies. Without them the Northern array wouldnt he possible so i guess it has a little to do with NATO after all and its our inuit people who are also part of the early warning systems for Canada and make up our artic ranger force, they do search and rescue and know if the slightest change takes place and they watch Russian and Chinese and everyone else's movements in the Arctic
This is a NATO documentary of the 50s. Unfortunately the terms Inuk (a single Inuit person) and Inuit (a plural term meaning 'The People'.in Inuktitut, we're not used until about 1970! That was well over a half century ago! You're watching a historical documentary and not a 2020s-era film! 🐻 🐻❄ 🐻❄ 🐻❄ 🐻
I love the canadians
Canada loves the Netherlands too! ;)
Amazing mini-documentary, thanks for posting! Please post more like these :)
Ok, I just watched this in French not realizing there was an English version.
