There's also some additional symbolism with THE JACKEEEEEET. Richie is literally going "These are the clothes of a fearsome enemy that I defeated, and now I'm putting them on you."

@@chrisfromsouthaus2735Bro you weren't even trying. The age of the characters completely changes the scenarios completely. Tony didn't emotionlessly kill his siblings as kid over jealousy. 6:26 since Rocco was the “toughest guy in town” when they were just kids, it stands to reason that he’d be older than Tony and Richie. And Richie’s no spring chicken himself, he looks about mid-50s and Tony’s in his early 40s, so it could’ve just been an incident that happened a long time ago, long enough for Rocco to have developed Alzheimer’s. Although it wouldn’t be out of character for Richie to beat up an old man, I don’t think that’s what the writers were implying here.

Change is central to the philosophy of Taoism.
Wu Wei, which is often translated as "non-action" or "effortless action," is the ability to go with the flow and accept things as they are. Rather than resist change, it is better to let things happen as they happen.
Richie, for all his talk about leaving behind the past, for all his attempts to be a new man, is still attached to who he used to be. He can't let go of his old traditions, his old ideas of masculinity, his old status in the mob. Rather than adapt to the world around him, he tries to force everything to conform to his expectations.
In the past, he was respected for his violence and brutality, but he is like the unbending tree in the Tao Te Ching. "A tree that is unbending is easily broken. The most flexible tree is the one that bends" (Tao Te Ching, Chapter 76). The unbending tree may look imposing, but it is rigid and stiff (in attitude, perspective), eventually breaking from its own inability to adapt to what's around it. Richie can't use his strengths to move up because they are also his weaknesses. What once gave him power contributed to his demise.

"Fine Corinthian leather!" was the tagline for Chrysler ads as said smoothly by Ricardo Montalban. Sort of how most Americans unfortunately know Sir Ian Richardson mainly from the Grey Poupon ads, not his masterful acting in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy or the original House of Cards. At least Montalban also lives on immortally with Khan in Star Trek.

I saw the jacket as a power play. Ritchie came out of prison with a chip on his shoulder he thought he was the natural heir to the family after his brother but he was passed up by the sopranos.
Ritchie knows that the sopranos are too powerful to just wack and take over. Pretty much all the capos were in favour of Tony as boss. Ritchie had to win over the key players, and get a foothold. Winning over junior was his big play and he was close. After this he would’ve just had to knock out silvio and chrissy. As the aprile and Juniors crew were the biggest in the family. Everyone else would’ve got in line to keep the money rolling in.
The jacket was just ritchie trying to be clever and putting tony in the role of the big shot he’s planning on overthrowing. Sure he was pissed that tony give it away to some rando. But I don’t think that was the breaking point for him. He was planning to take over the whole time

David Proval was I think the best actor on the show. He was perfect in that role. Scary A F. He also played a similar character in UHF, but with staples in his face.

Brilliant insight on the Alzheimer's conclusion. When we get older, the muscles don't respond like they used to. That's why it's classified as "elder abuse", to assault a senior citizen. It carries more severe sentencing. All those "old school" mobsters needed to be retired by the NY/NJ families. Rusty, Ritchie, Feech, Angelo and Tony B.

Ritchie didn't really say it's okay to hit women. He said that it's his business that Chris struck Andrea, because they were married. If they were married, he wouldn't be scolding Christopher, but still he would be mad.

I'd have liked to have heard more about who Rocko was, was he related to the guest of the government, who also had the same first name as Tony's lost Uncle?
