- Aaliyah Dana Haughton (/ɑːˈliːə/; January 16, 1979 - August 25, 2001) was an American singer, actress and model. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Detroit, she first gained recognition at the age of 10, when she appeared on the television show Star Search and performed in concert alongside Gladys Knight. At the age of 12, Aaliyah signed with Jive Records and her uncle Barry Hankerson's Blackground Records. Hankerson introduced her to R. Kelly, who became her mentor, as well as lead songwriter and producer of her debut album, Age Ain't Nothing but a Number. The album sold three million copies in the United States and was certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). After facing allegations of an illegal marriage with Kelly, Aaliyah ended her contract with Jive and signed with Atlantic Records.
Aaliyah worked with record producers Timbaland and Missy Elliott for her second album, One in a Million, which sold three million copies in the United States and more than eight million copies worldwide. In 2000, Aaliyah appeared in her first film, Romeo Must Die. She contributed to the film's soundtrack, which spawned the single "Try Again". The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 solely on airplay, making Aaliyah the first artist in Billboard history to achieve this goal. After completing Romeo Must Die, Aaliyah filmed her role in Queen of the Damned, and released, in 2001, her self-titled third and final studio album, which topped the Billboard 200.
On August 25, 2001, Aaliyah and eight others were killed in a plane crash in the Bahamas after filming the music video for the single "Rock the Boat". The pilot, Luis Morales III, was unlicensed at the time of the accident and toxicology tests revealed that he had traces of cocaine and alcohol in his system. Aaliyah's family later filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Blackhawk International Airways, which was settled out of court. Aaliyah's music has continued to achieve commercial success, aided by several posthumous releases, and has sold an estimated 24 to 32 million albums worldwide. Her accolades include three American Music Awards and two MTV VMAs, along with five Grammy Award nominations. She has been credited for helping to redefine contemporary R&B, pop and hip hop,[1] earning her the nicknames the "Princess of R&B" and "Queen of Urban Pop", and influencing numerous artists of different music genres. Billboard lists her as the tenth most successful female R&B artist of the past 25 years, and the 27th most successful in history. - Wikipedia

She’s been gone for 19 years but it feels like she just passed away R.I.P Queen 😪🙏🏿💔🕊
Damn has it been that long!? Crazy
Kris Bryant yep since I was only six months old I turned 19 this year
that's because she was such a good person
Miss her so much rip baby girl
I swear it don’t feel like it’s been that long!!!!
She was so beautiful inside and out. So much potential! RIP baby girl
Yes she was. 19 years ago. Can't believe it. Our baby girl. Been gone from this earth that long. Rip baby girl. 💝
Rjgoeito
@@akishakayelarosa6047 keep that robert guy away from her
Plz, God, trade her for JB. We don't want this cancer anymore. We want Aaliyah back! 💝
Don’t disrespect Aaliyah by comparing her to other artists. She was and still is in a league of her own creation. Rest easy babygirl!
she copied nicki minaj
Periodtttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Exactly ! Say it louder for them in the back!
It’s weird being 21 and seeing how young she was when her music was being released . Like damn she was 15-22 ??? As a kid she seemed older and now that I’m an adult it still feels like she was older than that. She was so mature !!!!
She was 19 or 20 here
@@jordynsimmons1107 no need to be technical
I’m quite older now than she was when she died. She doesn’t seem as someone younger than me in the interviews done in 2000 and 2001. In fact, I can think of some celebrity in their 30s and I don’t see any difference between their behaviour and her behaviour in the very last years of her life.
She started as a Child , here She was 19 I think , She was 15 when Her 1st Album was released in 1994 I think
And still she has left such an impact almost 20 years since she passed. And will continue to inspire and influence generations of artists today, tomorrow and forever. #RIPAaliyah ⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘⚘🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊
@Bob Will The many different sounds heard in R&B today. Alternative, laid back trap sounding R&B. Also her fashion style, makeup/lipstick in her likeness released, and her second album now is listed as one of the 500 greatest albums of all time by _Rolling Stone_ and a wax figure at Madame Tussauds.
Bob Will wtf do u really need your question to be answered?
The pain of Aaliyah not being here still hurts. Her legacy will live forever and other aspiring singers will continue to be influenced by her. Rest in Paradise Queen ❤️❤️
It’s the perfect fuse of joy and hurt at the exact same time.
So true! I still get teary eyed😢😢😢😢
Sam Rodgers true
if she with us now she will be 41 years old ❤️
yep im one yr younger than she is
@@telikaandfam Damn, wish i was 40 something. Y"all lived through the best times and days of music, artist, movies, and tv shows.
If she was with us now only she would be 41 but she's would be a billionaire too and helping people cause she has a huge, caring and loving ❤ but God knows what was best for her.
She turned 42 yesterday. Damn.
now 42
She may be absent from the body. But her spirit will remain forever. 🕊 ❤
Aaliyah seemed like such a sweetheart. She's unforgettable & forever missed!! 💟🌟😿💐🕊️
The scene of Aaliyah & Static together is haunting because they are both now gone. I can only imagine the creative things they were discussing.
19 years and it still heartbreaking.
"You're not gonna get the whole picture of Aaliyah for a while." And we never did😭#gonetoosoon
They did her wrong!
They killed her on purpose and i HATE THAT SO MUCH
Very missed, never in a negative light
Yea everyone calling her beautiful because she's biracial

My first R&B crush!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Everyone was in love with her. Such a natural beauty, down to earth, with a hip-hop, yet classy swag.
@@MrTee12 Absolutely bro! She was EVERYTHING! I still say she would dominate the game right now if she were alive.
I WAS IN LOOOOOOOOOOVVVVVEEEE!
I met her back in 1997 in Miami at the IMPACT music conference! She was VERY down to earth, she completely NOT a diva. She was a sweetheart ♥️.
"You are not going to get the whole picture for awhile..."
That part.
Period...💎💙that part....
That part @ least it's good 2 know that some of us watch the video instead of clicking & commenting 😂👑
That was definitely the part I felt the most! I’m the exact same way!
Yes
Same. We are not one dimensional beings. We have layers to us. Very few get to see all the layers to us.
This made me tear up a bit. I can’t believe it has been 19 years! Rip beautiful 💙🤍💙
I was born in 2001 which makes me 19 when she died I was only 6 months old
I miss her.... I would have loved to see how she would've killed the music game today. Soo talented, beautiful, a songbird before her time & gone too soon. My angel.... love you sis ❤
I miss Aaliyah. RIP beautiful.
It's like she's still here at times, with what she left with her music, fashion, movies, people still use her for songs, and constantly give her love
Awwww I miss her😢💔
2:20 damn. RIP Aaliyah and Static
Miss Aaliyah a great deal! She was so talented but yet so beautiful.
🗣🎤 Raise your hand if you remember "Star Search" 🙋🏽♀️
🖐🏾
🙋🏾♀️ I do!!!😊
✋
Aaliyah was a woman before her time had moves before her time and moves "Be Yawn Ce" Knowles tried her damdest to imitate. Gone much much too soon ☹😒😔😥🙏🙏🙏
Nobody tried to be her you can see Aaliyah's influence in Justine Skye, Ciara, Tinashe, I don't understand why people put one artist down in favor of another nobody copies Aaliyah other artists can be inspired by her Ciara embodies her more than anybody else ever did and she isn't copying her she paying tribute.
@@musiclover-cn7tb Then you must not to see that other people can also have an opinion without another person getting bent out of shape over it. This is my opinion and my perogative. I'm not asking you to share it🤔🙄😏
I thought I was the only one to call her that!! 🤣🤣🤣 Aaliyah was poised, had class, and was humble. I still don’t understand her untimely death. BeYAWNce will reap what she sow. Because she definitely had something to do with Aaliyah’s death. She wanted fame too much. She was tacky, country, unoriginal, and classless. And now she still isn’t satisfied. Aaliyah said it, it’ll be a long time before someone like her comes around again. ALL the greats loved Aaliyah. You can’t say that for many.
@@jacquelinerussell8530 It's not opinion when your trying to pass it off as fact. So stop tryna hide behind the word "opinion" because your attempt at spewing so called facts was flawed. Just say y'all obsessed with Beyonce and be done with it
@@tgirl1762 Neg i was giving my opinion I never said it was fact or invited you to do the research. Dont get it twisted and please check yourself before you continue to wreck yourself. Now that part is indeed fact 😳🙄😏👍
I. Miss seeing her on stage singing her gift that she left us was her music will reamain timless love her and may. She rip
At 1:31 when she finishes answering the question with "and I Love Swimming", I swear she is so cute at that expression my Lord it is something so beautiful about her. RIP AALIYAH

First met Aaliyah at my store in mid 90's downtown Detroit, MI along with her mother and they looked just like twins. We shaked hands and she was very down to earth, genuine & beautiful. Still miss her in 2020 ....Rest In PowRA Queen 👑❤🔥
Forever EveryBody's BabyGirl 💕
Bill Clinton was looking at Aaliyah like 😛👀👁😛....and Hillary was like 🙄🤨😑........ aaliyah said" you could see the passion in his eyes"...it wasnt the type passion she thought it meant.🤣🤣 but Hillary knew.
Ill never forget at 14 years old when my mom told us that Aaliyah had died in a plane crash. It was like someone hit me right in the stomach. I'm not going to front like I was a huge fan of Aaliyah when she was alive, but her sudden tragic death deeply saddened and troubled me even at that age.
Such a sweet soul. Gone too soon.
She will always be my queen 👑

She was gorgeous
I'm never getting over her demise it hurt just watching this makes me sad that she didn't get to enjoy the labor of her talent...rest up baby girl...you are for ever missed 💖👑🏆😭
Yall just dont get it. Back in the 80s and 90s, the stars were more than just celebrities. You actually felt like you knew them due to the way marketing was done back then. Aaliyah always seemed like that cool cousin or the cool girl in the neighborhood that EVERYONE loved. Miss her dearly.
You have it backwards social media now makes it feel like you know celebrities because you get to see them in their homes on a regular day anytime you login. Back in the day the only time you got to see celebrities was on tv or on stage at a show and if you were lucky you got to leave with a picture and a autograph.
@@tgirl1762 Right. Celebs had mystique back then. Now, the famous people are too much like everybody else, to the point that they don't feel special anymore. Like Whitney Houston. She was a star in the classic sense, but she lost something of her specialness and her mystique when she did "Being Bobby Brown." Shamone! She's WHITNEY HOUSTON, not some cheap reality star. But she became a laughingstock behind that.
💗
I miss her and Static Major.
😍😍😍😍 gorgeous with real talent
Man, I miss her so much.
RIP. Excited to learn her music will finally be available again soon!
wow i never knew she performed for clinton’s!! she’s so hidden to the world. i ofc grew up on her as a kid but i never knew this wow
