  • Hey guys! During my road trip through Europe, I ventured over to Slovakia with Visit Bratislava. While there, we explored many beautiful regions, tried the most incredible food, and I even jumped off of a cliff! I was blown away by the endless amounts of activities there were to experience. This video is jam packed with fun and I hope you enjoy it! -Bree

Hi. I am from Slovakia, currently living in the UK. This is a great video that describes Slovakia. I am pleased that somebody has put the effort into making something like this. As a Slovak person I can only say: Thank you.
I can also recommend traveling to Slovakia, there are MANY things to see. Our food and drinks are tasty and quite cheep too, so a double "plus". Accommodation is cheep and you can rent a car for about 20£ per day. Slovak people are friendly, 80% of the young people know how to speak English (we have to learn it at school, it is a mandatory subject). Give it a shot, you might like it. See you in Slovakia.... :)

I spend my winters in Slovakia with moja najdrahšia medvedica, but my experience in deepest Slovakia is that other than nearly all the packaging in Kaufland being in English, therefore we assume that most Slovaks have a little understanding of a few words in English (or they just look at the pictures) very few people speak English or are very reluctant to do so through fear of making a mistake.. With nearly all films and TV programmes dubbed or subtitled into Czech or Slovak, Slovaks who don't travel don't have to bother with foreign languages. The only places that I have ever met English people or Americans in Slovakia is in Bratislava and at Bojnice. I have NEVER come across another Englishman or American in Levice or in our village. It is a case of use it or lose it and most Slovaks never had it in the first place. Despite many attempts, I have still not been able to persuade Tánička's Great Uncle Marko that, "Sitzenzee" is neither good English nor good German.
Last winter, I spend four or so hours per week with a 14 year old lad in the village to help him with his English and I shall do so again this coming winter. The teaching aids and work books that he has are excellent except that they go into technical grammatical detail that is way beyond the knowledge of 99% of native English speakers and that technical detail is completely unnecessary to speak good English. Even >>>>> I

Hi. As a Slovak person only recommend for you to try it and go to Slovakia for a holiday. The nature is beautiful, the big towns have a lot of historical buildings, we have over 100 castles in our country and most of them have free access, a lot folk festivals take place during the summer time and the bars and discos are busy all the time. The food is great, drinks are strong and the beer is bitter and strong :) Slovak people are handsome/beautiful, fit and very friendly. Most of the young population of Slovakia knows how to speak English and the restaurts / bars have "multi-language" menu. Even if you encounter somebody who doesn't speak English you will be able to communicate with them to tell them what you need even if you have to use your "hand and feet". Or just use google translate :)

Actually, it's not a whole true :) as there was "bombing" with napoleon's canon balls, the affected houses got financial reparations. So some of the houses in the old city did put the canon ball into the wall by purpose to get some money from the state :)

I am English but spend a lot of time in Slovakia. Moja najdrahšia medvedica has back and neck problems and we visited Trenčín for treatments several times. I liked Trenčín very much. Very nice centre. Love the vodník. I think the castle is magnificent. It is a shame that Bree did not explain the love story at Bojnice. The real tragedy is not that a man spent 22 years remodelling and extending the castle for the love of his life who never saw it. The real tragedy is that he kept his tenants in poverty draining them of every penny that he could to pay for the work. I doubt that he lifted a single stone himself. It is a love story that is equal to the Taj Mahal in India. Of course Shah Jahan was so devastated at the death of his beloved Mumtaz that he had thousands of slaves build her mausoleum. His grief did not lead him to do anything other than approve the plans and watch it being built. Such are the parasitical rich.
