no it comes from the Caribbean originally, a lot of Jamaican slang
@@impactEditHD I never heard a Jamaican from the Windrush generation use the current slang. I think it evolved in London and was spread by music videos. Mr. Drake is an aficionado of the grime genre, I understand.

@@impactEditHD I lived in Tottenham, London in the 1990s among first and second generation Jamaicans. No-one used the grime slang then. For example they used bredren (brethren) not mandem. The grime crews are not all Jamaican either. Since 1997 there have been a lot more direct African immigrants in the UK, particularly London, who have no connection to the Carribean.

Its weird that canada embraced london slang rather than USA slang. It all sounds weird with the american-like accent.
It absolutely isn't weird at all with the amount of Caribbean people that immigrated there, like London post 1970.
