Great question! At 11:39, I test my faux Cartier bracelet. On a scratch test, the 18k gold plating tested positive, as the scratch was gold. But, with the KEE, you'll see the needle wobble all over before it lands in the red- which is "no gold," or in my case, heavily gold plated.
