    getting. simple look trough optical refractometer, (the one you gold to light ) is very rewarding and cost effective , only tip is got refractometer solution. That way you know what your constant is and then you just you know, can adjust or calibrate your unit but I think it’s as good as any fancy one.

    You can add copepods if you like mate, but if they are tigriopus, you are wasting your time, They survive in a DT for 24 hours if you are lucky you can find them in british rockpools. The U.S. has a large enough market to culture a wide range of suitable species. Last I looked it's not the case in the U.K. if you do find a British supplier of tisbe or another useful species of tropical copepod, then please share that info, if you don't please can you explain this in your videos as the message doesn't seem to be circulating.

    My tips for tenuis are find some that are aquacultured with their polyps out. The maricultured ones are beyond temperamental. Then high light, high nutrients and high flow and they seem to thrive.

      FWIW, the first thing I said to myself when I first saw your main display tank was "Look at those mountains of acros! Holeee ...!" Eveythjmg about your tank shows me someone who mastered reefkeeping. On my end, I've mastered dino farming. Had a bumper crop last month, let's see what this month brings 😆

      I won't, no - I'd only use it for disease control. But they're all massive and take up too much space. I have one, but I'd only set it up if I had a problem to deal with...

    How did you know your Hanna conductivity tester was wrong, and your refractometer was correct? I had the exact opposite experience.

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 місяці тому

      Fair question - my bobbing hydrometer, optical and digital refractometers and an ICP test all ready very similar whereas the Hanna was out. And I had corals sulking until I correct the salinity.

  • @deanfitzpatrick3147

  • @lovermansmith9082
    @lovermansmith9082 3 місяці тому +1

    If you get a tropic Marine hydrometer you will never need calibration fluid again . 14" long & fragile you may want to protect with foam . I Loved the little birdies 😊 . I will miss them . & The dork , please not the dork 😊. Look forward to your build. Always appreciate you sharing your triumphs & failures . Looking forward to your shared LPS experience . Already learned magnesium is very important to gonorrhea . I mean gonapora 😊.

    Can some please HELP me? 😔 Im starting a 16 gallon nano tank. I bought a bag of reef crystal sea salt, enough for 50 gallons. I have mixed the salt and filled up my tank (per instructions) and the salinity is too low. I feel i have used half the bag of sea crystals and im barely at 1.020. WHAT IS GOING ON???

    • @ReefDork
      @ReefDork  3 місяці тому +1

      Let it mix with a powerhead for 48 hours to be sure but if it's low, add more. If you're using a swing arm hydrometer to test salinity, throw it away and buy a good optical refractometer

    • @jrojo4834
      @jrojo4834 3 місяці тому

      Thank you. I am using an ocular refractometer. I am using the Reef Crystals Sea salt. I did the 1/2 cup per gallon for my 16 gallon tank. Unless I miscounted my scoops and was short 4 gallons, it seemed to take another 2 cups of salt to raise my salinity from 1.010 to 1.024.@@ReefDork
