A lot of people are missing one of the points that makes this mod great that isn't clearly outlined. The redone coast levels and nova prospekt to fit more in line with some beta elements is amazing, a lot of fun and exciting for future maps from the mod creator, but the mod also provides "a platform for those who wish to do the same." It comes with dozens of reworked features and added content so people can make their own maps, and lots of maps are perfect to port to the mod. There's already a canals level ported to this mod on the moddb. Lots to look forward to in 2022 for beta fans thanks to this mod.
Raising The Bar: Redux is better in that regard considering they released their entrie mod source code and added mapbase support(aka advanced logic entities, mapadd, more customization and VScript scripting language).
11:19 THIS is what was lacking from the retail Coast levels: Giant shipwrecks in the distance. It adds so much scale to the combine invasion. That thing you are driving inside of isnt just some dried-up lake, its an entire ocean, completely drenched and filled with shipwrecks. What I am saying is: The retail coast lacked scale, and this mod perfectly fixed that
Still amazed me that HL2 as one of greatest game ever made still holding up to this day. Even a lot of Mods have been made for this game. Thanks for showing and playing a lot of them Bolloxed. Keep it up 👍👍👍
While the released Half-life 2 is probably my favorite fps, the more I read about the "Half-life 2 Beta" (an erroneous term to indicate a variety of builds and concepts) the more I'm unhappy with the story, lore and characters we ended up with.
I want it to be known how broke the Tau Cannon is when paired with Bhopping, just charge up, turn around, fire, do the Bhop stuff, and all of a sudden you’ve lost the car, and now have to go on by Bhopping and using the rocket launcher, giving the Tau recharging ammo doesn’t help this either.
I dig the use of hl1 assets like the xen trees, squids and hounds. I imagine we don't see a lot of them in hl2 because the combine is kind of keeping them under control either by assimilation or like some kind of pest control.
To be honest, as much as I love HL2, something about it that always really bothered me was the lack of xen infestation you see in the more abandoned, lesser-Combine occupied areas like the canals and the coast. You’d think that 20 years after the Resonance Cascade you’d see Xen shit EVERYWHERE, but it is hardly seen in Hl2 aside from like headcrabs and barnacles.
These are all great points. It makes sense that they wouldn't have been commonly seen in the cities. But even just a little bit would have been cool in places like canals or beyond city 17. Squids would have been an epic thing to see in the wastes outskirts.

what i adore Coterminus that they're not only adding beta assets just for aesthetic pleasing, but also revision the world of Half-Life 2 in a bleak atmosphere like how Valve envisioned in old concept arts. I wish they expand it more for City 17, Route Canal and hecc, find a modder who can bring back the Hydra.
im pretty sure the hydra was extremely op with its beta ai but if a modder gives it lots of endlag and give it a arena similar to the geneworm larvae or the tentacle from half life 1 and opforce but make the map narrow and long with lots of cover to kill it it would be perfect. plus also im pretty sure the antlion king/queen concept was going to be a similar vain to the geneworm except you kill her/him in a abandoned mineshaft filled with dead combine and their weapons from a attempt to kill the antlion monarch using a form of turret mounted super-weapon
The Combine guard was to be much stronger than what it is in this, it basically had a portable strider cannon Edit: I'm assuming Boloxed was playing on easy just saw another dude getting destroyed by two hits of that thing playing on the normal difficulty 😂

The Beta is much more interesting than the Retail version, Possibly due to the Source code leak, but the new generation might be angry at valve, due to the themes it had, ( Slavery, Child Labour, and Pollution. ), The game would've been different if it wasn't for the leak, which almost got the company bankrupt. I may prefer the Beta instead of the Retail version.
Dude, the themes are fine if they're a criticism of them and the dangers of fascism! The problem isn't featuring dark themes, the problem is common sense and decency on how to go about them; which is lacking in so many works.
@@lambda-m1676 Well yeah... That's how they design their games! Eventually everything gets polished enough that people fail to notice or care for the inconsistencies. HL1 was a hodgepodge of "see what sticks!" stuff as well; that's the original reason of why all the different alien species had such inconsistent visual design languages, which they later patched with plot points explaining that they were from different worlds "or whatever"; even though it doesn't explain why so many of them have shared undeveloped visual design elements (3 limbs, 1 big round eye, psionics or in some cases grotesque furless and lovecraftian even in species that should have nothing in common according to lore). The same problems still plagued HL2 retail. A bunch of concepts from the early development periods survived through the late development periods without going through any revisions whatsoever and that contrast and disparity is painfully obvious!
Ever since half life 2 overcharged mod been out i play it all the time with the new weapons and enemys im like into it more then the orginal half life 2 that and black mesa are my favort games i play half life source the other day becasued i sometimes miss the classis half life it was cool tol play but the maps are really not cool anymore compear too the remake and man do hope half life 3 comes out someday

Stupid mod ever , they removed the train on the bridge section which made it one of the most action scenes from Half-Life 2 game . What has ennemies from Half-Life 1 universe to do in HL2 ? Makes no sense. The car engine sound used is the one from Flatout 2 nice touch but it stops there . On what difficulty is this played ? Seems modded to it's lowest, yes the kill on the combine shoppers takes long to kill like it's hardest mode , but killing combine soldiers and what not is way too easy to my taste . Same mistake people cannot seem to understand with another game with Unreal Tournament 1999 , you don't have to put God mode difficulty to so call own the game as you can put each bot to it's lowest difficulty easy to claim you beat the game on hard whereas the bots are put on low . Is why i always put bots in UT99 separately on God to play on solo there you have the real feeling of what "God Mode" means . Even when you spawn on an awkward position the bots kills you on a split second none human can even see where the bot is located at ( no cheats used or other easy mods to look like a certain game is easy to beat ) Ok nice graphics but it's pointless to me . I want Half-Life 2 episode 3 YESSSS!!!

HL1 and HL2 are in the same universe tho? So it makes sense? If HL2 is set in a different universe why are there headcrabs, barnacles and Vortigaunts?? They are from HL1.
@ Because it's same universe only need to read the real story from what the "Real Half-Life 2" would have been not a loosy action game a la Call of Duty . I love Half-Life surely how it was in 1997-1998 era real horror etc.... something that got ruined by other games biggest example Doom 2 ...we had the biggest end bosses to be scared on "Cyberdemon" by offering a stupid panel "Icon of Sin" vomiting every 5 seconds a new demon send from hell ?!? I would rather have a better final boss something that moves . Same goes for the Quake franchise the first one had a stupid boss the Quake 2 boss was laughable it was like non-finished game as Quake 3 Arena it blew itself in oblivion . Unreal was an excellent FPS shooter same goes for UT99 the game was far superior besides Quake . Sadly we have too many Doom fanboys and so on but we had later on better games than what ID.Software offered us no ??!!?? Headcrabs , barnacles etc...were only there in Half-Life 2 for fanservice . Barnacles were pretty useless in HL2 not even set on dangerous places , same goes for headcrabs were only there secondary. There were other ennemies in Half-Life 2 that were more boring and offered à real treat . Even our pour zombies saying "help me" even in normal audio when they were burning are useless . The more i think about Half-Life the better i think, the story should have stopped after the first game . What came after is nonsense and became silly with the same story over and over . Kinda why Doom 3 is far more superior had other mechanichs in gaming something that traditionalists and nostalgia people hated .

Base HL2 just doesn't have enough creature variety, mods like these that allow mappers to experiment with more creatures are a big plus.

This mod intelligently mixes Release Half-Life 2 with Half-Life 2 beta and I like it, I will wait for mod updates.

Half-Life 2 was 20 years ahead of its time. Still a much better game than many games today. Never gets boring.

When comparing HL2 Beta to HL2, I see that the way both games work is almost entirely different, although not much content was cut when making HL2.

Nah...the released version is better imo. Beta looked like a HL1 remake. Same feel, almost same enemies, smiliar mechanics....
