IMO The Pablo design is not a bad design. Hell, I'd posit that the design is actually good. However, when you name that design "Wheeljack", that's when the problem arises.
It's really not helped since we already got his more faithful looks in Bumblebee, not even Arcee redesign feels that drastic. ofc everyone would shitting on it, this is the case of "why don't you just make new character rather than screwed the established one".
Downsize the glasses, make the ear-antenna things more prominent, change the lower face design (nose and mouth don't really work), and Pablojack works incredibly well. I don't mind the glasses (as long as they don't pull the stereotypical 90s "uhm, ackshually" shtick), and honedtly making them goggles could be even cooler. Edit: Watched the movie. Man.... I'm glad he kicked some ass, just bummed that he didn't speak a whole lot. The "kinda racist, hombre" joke was funny tho.
Maybe they should throw out a line in the optic replaclint's aren't available after the fall of cybertron because yet the only time any transformer A mechanical race could be disabled by human standards would be if. Cybertron itself was gone and they couldn't get the resources to replace the pieces

Wheeljack is my Dads favorite transformer as a kid. Really like his character design, personality, car mode, light up feature and the inventions he made. He was really really disappointed when I showed him the new design in the new movie
I'm right there with your dad likely along with age and childhood. They literally turned him into Urkle, suspenders and all. I really wish this movie was an actual continuation of Bumblebee since we'd have the best renditions of the old G1's brought to the current day.

The Dark of the Moon overall design and Rise of the Beasts robot mode design are honestly not bad in their own rights. However, neither should have had the name Wheeljack attached to them. If I had to choose which I like better on their own; I'm more into Dark of the Moon. I like the Eisenstein inspiration and he's quite expressive. Rise of the Beasts robot mode on the other hand is just merely fine, but nothing beyond that.
You do realise that each of the Transformers media whether it be film, cartoons, comics or novels are all on different universe, right? Que may not be your Wheeljack, but he passes as a Wheeljack variant to me. Prime and RoTB Wheeljack only has the Wheeljack name. But Que has the personality of the Autobot inventor. Only Que is more like an aged up, experienced Wheeljack. I even made an alignment of different Wheeljack on how their differences are as if the characters aged. G1 Wheeljack is him in his college years. Cyberverse Wheeljack is him in his 40s while Que is him in his 70s. They somehow aligned well for me. Oh, and RoTB Wheeljack, or Pablo, is high school years Wheeljack.

I got to be honest Travis Knight’s Bumblebee’s Wheeljack design was a perfect combo of realistic and G1, and they did it well in ROTB with the others, Wheeljack was the inly character design I had an issue with in ROTB, he just looks- off putting…
Trying something new isn't that bad of a thing, but you always want to keep some core aspects of the characters you're mixing up so they're still recognizable to the fans that appreciate what came before. There are multiple different styles for even the big name characters, such as Optimus, that still keep a core vision of what the character should be (red chest with windshields, blue helmet, battle mask). For many when it comes to Wheeljack, it's his ear fins and his mask. Many fans show that they don't even mind the totally different color scheme. As you've shown, they've also added on his BBM head onto his ROTB design with the same colors and made it work to wide liking. Also, don't remember who said it, but I agree that Pablo could've been called Scattershot (Cybertron) instead and no one would've batted an eye.

Que has slowly become one of my favorite things from the Bayverse, mostly cause of Bayverse comics. It is along the lines of before coming to Earth, he and Mirage get bodied by Shockwave. Ratchet gets a hold of them and rebuilds them and when he was reconstructing Que’s face and head he based it off of Einstein because he and Wheeljack are geniuses. He (and Mirage) started having changes in their personalities and took new names. Then they just kind of embraced the new names and identity That’s lowkey fucked

My introduction to wheeljack was transformers prime and I never watched any of the other cartoons so thats the only way I pictured him, so the fact that tfp wheeljack and pablo are the same character is just really funny
Aaron Archer disputed the “Takara designed Armada Wheeljack” story. He said Hasbro designed it, and were just trying for a “G1-looking design” rather than any specific one for the character. Regardless, the Sideswipe similarity was still basically unintentional.

I loved Wheeljack in Bumblebee. They did him dirty in ROTB. If they’d just called him Pablo, I’d fully accept him as his own brand new character. As it stands, though, he’s not my Wheeljack.
There's just a uniqueness to Wheeljack's design. His design implys he's a warrior when in reality he's a scientist/engineer. He's like the Shockwave of the Autobot Crazy yes, can fight but prefers not to, but not as monstrous as Shockwave. It's a cool double meaning to his design.

if only he is called Pablo, I wouldn't be so disappointed. he is just entirely different from the original wheeljack, from his design to his personality to his accent. wheeljack is my favorite character all the way from G1, and it's so upsetting when this design was fully released in the movie.
I personally find ROTB Wheeljack to be a breath of fresh air, a break from consistency. That's why I loved the Unicron Trilogy and Beast Wars so much: They didn't shy away from giving established names to different-looking bots with unmatched personalities, something we just don't see anymore in most cases.
The only reason it was changed was to reduce the “rougher” nature he had in the Bee movie. Personally I don’t hate it, and nor do I think it’s wholly unfitting. It doesn’t work 100% No arguments there. However I like the lean into to nerd realm of things. It’s another out there take like Q which at lest to me is perfectly fine, if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work. I think it was a bold move and now seeing how little he was used in the movie, I’m kinda glad he didn’t get an updated design from the Bumblebee movie, would’ve felt like an absolute waste otherwise. Even more so than it is already
My hopes for Pablo is that he isn't just a stereotypical nerd. He's a big bot, he's got bulk on him. I mean he seems bigger then both bee and mirage. If they do make him an "um actually" nerd stereotype I hope he's at least a brawler too. He seems like a bot who could tussle, I mean change the head and remove the seat belt suspenders and I'd think he was the muscle of the group.
I dislike Pablo as Wheeljack. But Pablo as himself is great. If Pablo was an original character, I'd honestly be fine with that. But they did Wheeljack dirty.
"Wheeljack" in rise of the beasts isn't Wheeljack because they never call him "Wheeljack" and the real one is an inventor so theoreticaly "Wheeljack" could be an invention by the real Wheeljack.
I wouldn’t have minded the redesign of wheeljack so much for ROTB if they had kept the original head from the Bumblebee movie. Similar to what they’ve done for all the other Autobots like Arcees head design is pretty much the same but tweaked a bit. Whereas Wheeljacks head design sticks out like a sore thumb. His head is too drastic of a change imo and it’s very noticeable when standing him next to the others. Xx
I have the same problem with the Bumblebee movie Blitzwing, it could have been a triple changer, had his iconic colors and all, but no, it is just another seeker so much wasted potential. But I am not that mad about it, because I absolutely adore the design itself, and he is never ever named Blitzwing in the movie, so I just call him Ramjet. So yeah, I guess from now on we'll call him Pablo, and that'll make things way better.
It’s just one of those cases where I wonder why they even bothered using a certain name when there are other transformers that fit the design (and characteristics from that short clip) better. Like, it was a conscious choice to make everyone else carry certain parts of their iconic design, while with Wherljack, they chose not to. It baffles me
If you look closely, in the US trailer 2 for Rise of the Beast, when they’re all lining up, Wheeljack actually has his fins come out of him. So he has them, they’re just retractable.

Like before; my favorite is Online MMO. I also like G1 boxart, definitive G1 collection, alternators, animated, cyberverse, IDW movie comic cybertronian, Prime, IDW World of Tomorrow, Universe (with newer chest style), Earthspark animation model, and Rise of the Beasts vehicle mode only.
i think the wheeljack face in the first movie 1st actually a helmet for the rotb pablo. you can see a space in between the eyes, and if you cut out the wheeljacks face in the first movie it fits the pablo design.
They definitely picked a good character to have be the first Transformer to appear onscreen. Wheeljack is awesome, it’s just too bad the movies never really got his look right.
Personally, I like the glasses on pablo wheeljack, but i don't like the mouth. The bumblebee design was great however, and since ROTB is supposed to be a direct sequel to bumblebee, i think it would be cool if they made it so he can extend the ear fins out, and when he puts on his battle mask it is a mask reminiscent of the usual design with no mouth and it will resemble the bumblebee design a lot more. I also wonder if there is an in-universe explanation for why his design is so drastically different from his design in bumblebee.
you could say that since rotb is a sequel to bumblebee, instead of a prequel, that wheeljack mellowed out due to being out of the battlefield, and then the einstein looking one is him trying to stay out of the fights from then on. because those two designs seem like they're somewhat consistent with one another- no fins and the glasses and all.
I'm holding on to that fleeting hope ROTB Wheeljack has a battle mask. I don't even mind if we don't get his head fins. I just hope we aren't just left with that
I think the glowing antennas are only four wheel jack designs that don’t have a standard mouth, though it would be cool to have it, so that if he has his battle mask on he one has the distortion effect of G one wheel jack, and to have the glow of his antennas I feel like that would be a nice middle ground because I do like him with a face but I also like him with his battle mask and antennas
The first ever clip I saw had Battletrap (the tow truck) firing the missiles and I so wanted that to be Wheeljack. The hazard Beacons could be the flashing wings on the side of his head, it’d make sense fro him to be a recovery vehicles. I just loved the idea. Then I found out this was his design, and while I still find it fine enough, The face is were all the problems lie
I have two theory’s why wheeljack from the cybertron games and the one from prime are so different number 1 their are two wheeljacks like how their are two grimlocks,number 2 wheeljack was a very smart on cybertron but decided to join the wreckers to get stronger but during the war he had to use smarts to help the autobots
I personally don't mind his ROTB design all that much. Don't get me wrong I fucking LOVE G1 Wheejack's design, but I have to say there's something about ROTB's design that redeems it in a way. It still feels true to the character in a way, like it was made more of based around his character rather than his G1 design, and I'll say it fits well. As for the face, it makes me a bit uncomfortable, but all in all the design isn't bad, to me at least.
Pablo looks very good, I'm just mad they called him wheeljack. Like, I know TF have different deigns over the years but you wouldn't see a character change this much on any other franchise, imagine if Marvel did a blue small guy and called him Hulk?

I loved Wheeljack in Bumblebee. They did him dirty in ROTB. If they’d just called him Pablo, I’d fully accept him as his own brand new character. As it stands, though, he’s not my Wheeljack.
Pablo is such a odd name for a transformer, mainly because we are used to words being the names. Pablo out here challenging the status quo!
There's just a uniqueness to Wheeljack's design. His design implys he's a warrior when in reality he's a scientist/engineer. He's like the Shockwave of the Autobot
Crazy yes, can fight but prefers not to, but not as monstrous as Shockwave. It's a cool double meaning to his design.
I really hope they show us why they chose the new design and who proposed it, so we know who's to blame

if only he is called Pablo, I wouldn't be so disappointed. he is just entirely different from the original wheeljack, from his design to his personality to his accent. wheeljack is my favorite character all the way from G1, and it's so upsetting when this design was fully released in the movie.
I personally find ROTB Wheeljack to be a breath of fresh air, a break from consistency. That's why I loved the Unicron Trilogy and Beast Wars so much: They didn't shy away from giving established names to different-looking bots with unmatched personalities, something we just don't see anymore in most cases.

The only reason it was changed was to reduce the “rougher” nature he had in the Bee movie. Personally I don’t hate it, and nor do I think it’s wholly unfitting. It doesn’t work 100% No arguments there. However I like the lean into to nerd realm of things. It’s another out there take like Q which at lest to me is perfectly fine, if it doesn’t work it doesn’t work. I think it was a bold move and now seeing how little he was used in the movie, I’m kinda glad he didn’t get an updated design from the Bumblebee movie, would’ve felt like an absolute waste otherwise. Even more so than it is already
My hopes for Pablo is that he isn't just a stereotypical nerd. He's a big bot, he's got bulk on him. I mean he seems bigger then both bee and mirage. If they do make him an "um actually" nerd stereotype I hope he's at least a brawler too. He seems like a bot who could tussle, I mean change the head and remove the seat belt suspenders and I'd think he was the muscle of the group.
My favorite part of the movie was when Pablo said “it’s pablin’ time” and then he pabloed all over the place
I dislike Pablo as Wheeljack. But Pablo as himself is great. If Pablo was an original character, I'd honestly be fine with that. But they did Wheeljack dirty.
"Wheeljack" in rise of the beasts isn't Wheeljack because they never call him "Wheeljack" and the real one is an inventor so theoreticaly "Wheeljack" could be an invention by the real Wheeljack.
I think the fins are gonna be on the studio series toy, which explains why it got delayed from wave 2 to wave 4

I wouldn’t have minded the redesign of wheeljack so much for ROTB if they had kept the original head from the Bumblebee movie. Similar to what they’ve done for all the other Autobots like Arcees head design is pretty much the same but tweaked a bit. Whereas Wheeljacks head design sticks out like a sore thumb. His head is too drastic of a change imo and it’s very noticeable when standing him next to the others. Xx

I have the same problem with the Bumblebee movie Blitzwing, it could have been a triple changer, had his iconic colors and all, but no, it is just another seeker so much wasted potential.
But I am not that mad about it, because I absolutely adore the design itself, and he is never ever named Blitzwing in the movie, so I just call him Ramjet.
So yeah, I guess from now on we'll call him Pablo, and that'll make things way better.

If you look closely, in the US trailer 2 for Rise of the Beast, when they’re all lining up, Wheeljack actually has his fins come out of him. So he has them, they’re just retractable.

i think the wheeljack face in the first movie 1st actually a helmet for the rotb pablo. you can see a space in between the eyes, and if you cut out the wheeljacks face in the first movie it fits the pablo design.

Personally, I like the glasses on pablo wheeljack, but i don't like the mouth. The bumblebee design was great however, and since ROTB is supposed to be a direct sequel to bumblebee, i think it would be cool if they made it so he can extend the ear fins out, and when he puts on his battle mask it is a mask reminiscent of the usual design with no mouth and it will resemble the bumblebee design a lot more. I also wonder if there is an in-universe explanation for why his design is so drastically different from his design in bumblebee.

you could say that since rotb is a sequel to bumblebee, instead of a prequel, that wheeljack mellowed out due to being out of the battlefield, and then the einstein looking one is him trying to stay out of the fights from then on. because those two designs seem like they're somewhat consistent with one another- no fins and the glasses and all.

I think the glowing antennas are only four wheel jack designs that don’t have a standard mouth, though it would be cool to have it, so that if he has his battle mask on he one has the distortion effect of G one wheel jack, and to have the glow of his antennas I feel like that would be a nice middle ground because I do like him with a face but I also like him with his battle mask and antennas

The first ever clip I saw had Battletrap (the tow truck) firing the missiles and I so wanted that to be Wheeljack. The hazard Beacons could be the flashing wings on the side of his head, it’d make sense fro him to be a recovery vehicles. I just loved the idea.
Then I found out this was his design, and while I still find it fine enough, The face is were all the problems lie

I have two theory’s why wheeljack from the cybertron games and the one from prime are so different number 1 their are two wheeljacks like how their are two grimlocks,number 2 wheeljack was a very smart on cybertron but decided to join the wreckers to get stronger but during the war he had to use smarts to help the autobots

I personally don't mind his ROTB design all that much. Don't get me wrong I fucking LOVE G1 Wheejack's design, but I have to say there's something about ROTB's design that redeems it in a way. It still feels true to the character in a way, like it was made more of based around his character rather than his G1 design, and I'll say it fits well. As for the face, it makes me a bit uncomfortable, but all in all the design isn't bad, to me at least.
