  • This soothing song is from Northern Namibia, in the Kwangali (Kavango) language, and is often used as a song of mourning. As a traditional song, the author and date written is unknown.
    This version of "Meguru" was performed by the Cape Town Youth Choir in 2008, conducted by Leon Starker. Thanks to the Stellenbosch Madrigal Singers for providing the translation. It should be noted that this translation is vague and the words do not directly translate between languages. There is also a popular general translation that goes as follows:
    "Lord you are up there, and we are down here. Have mercy on us when we part, and show us your love."
