Two older DeBarge brothers were in this group(Switch), Bobby and Tommy, but they weren’t IN the group DeBarge. They were older siblings who were in Switch, and they paved the way for their younger siblings to get a deal. Philip Ingram, brother of vocalist James Ingram, was also in Switch and he is singing the lower register vocals in this song. Bobby DeBarge is singing the falsetto parts. Bobby DeBarge and James Ingram are no longer with us, but Philip is alive and well.
Spot on, Greg Phillganes top left, Eddie Fluellan top 3rd from left, Jody Sims bottom right (not sure on spellings for names) rounded out that extremely talented band. Two leads, great harmonies and in my opinion they were actually better musicians than singers and that's saying a mouthful. They even had the "Best beat in town".
@@marquiseboyd282 Randy and El sang I Like It, not Bobby. You can see this in their live performance on Soul Train in 1982. ua-cam.com/video/crlFbErvHhQ/v-deo.html, and American Bandstand in 1983 ua-cam.com/video/BlKpLis7So0/v-deo.html
They were called switch because they could all sing and they could all play every instrument. The deeper voice is james ingrams younger brother Phillip and tha falsetto is Bobby Debarge
Correct! The members of the Debarge family who were in the group Switch (Tommy and Bobby Debarge) were older than their siblings who formed the group Debarge. You could say that Bobby Debarge passed down his "falsetto gift" specifically to younger brother El Debarge!
@@rumseyh Mostly true, though Bunny Debarge of the group DeBarge is actually the oldest of the ten. But Bobby was the unofficial leader of the Debarge kids.
It's just 1 member that was in debarge and that's Tommy. The other member is their older brother Bobby. He did some fill ins for his brother's and sister but I wouldn't consider him a member. He died in 95
Jack, if you haven't already, you should also react to "I Call Your Name" and/or "There'll Never Be" by Switch. FYI, James Ingram's brother Phillip Ingram was in this group as well and sang lead on "Closer to You."
Phillip and Bobby DeBarge are sharing leads on this song. You can clearly tell the difference in voices -- Phillip has the deeper, gutsier voice and Bobby the silky airy high falsetto.
Jermaine Jackson wrote this song and helped them get signed to Motown ❤Much respect to Bobby's falsetto, but I absolutely love Philip Ingrams' vocals on this one and another song of theirs called 'You Pulled A Switch'
The group was before deBarge after the The success of the group switch Bobby and Tommy brought the rest of their family out to California to create the group DeBarge
Bobby Debarge had the falsetto long before his little brother El. Bobby and Tommy Debarge were in Switch along with Phil Ingram, (James Ingram's brother). The group was called Switch because during shows they would switch instruments. My favorite songs were There'll Never Be and I Call Your Name. Best to see them live on Don Kirshner's Rock Concert. Search for Switch - There'll Never Be (1978). The songs are more impactful when you can see them.
the Debarge guys who were in Switch are the older brothers of the group Debarge. The okder two in Switch brung them out to Los Angeles after the were established in Motown with Switch. the Berry Gordy signed the younger Debarges as the singing group Debarge. the okder two were never in their younger siblings group
Two of the members in this group, Tommy and Bobby, were a part of the Debarge family; they were older brothers to Debarge, but they never were in Debarge singing group. In the picture, Tommy is the one sitting sporting a mustache; and Bobby is the one with a mustache standing that looks like Tommy. FYI Jack, the darker skinned one standing beside the guy in the hat, well dark skinned is Phillip Ingram, bother of James Ingram, who also had a great career as a solo artist in the 80's. Also, Jermaine Jackson helped produce both Switch and Debarge when they first came to Motown.
The name of came from the fact that they used switch the instrument they were playing in a live performance Each member could play multiple instruments
The other major soloist is the younger brother of James Ingram(One Hundred Ways). BTW, this was not a 70's group. This group sang this song in the 80's.
Bobby was in DeBarge in the mid to late 80's. Bout 86 to 88. It was Bobby, Mark, Randy and James DeBarge. El was on his own, solo. They started out as "The DeBarges" with El, Bunny, Randy, Mark and James came a little later. Then El left and they dropped "THE" and called themselves simply DEBARGE. Bobby came out solo after DeBarge, not The DeBarges . Bobby was the mucical genius of the DeBarge children and the oldest boy & had the best voice of all the children. Every single DeBarge child could / can sing. There are 10 of them. They ALL have great voices and can blow
The answer iS: The falsetto singer...Bobby De Barge...is the guy standing in the back row/far right. The first singer...Phillp Ingram...is the dude standing...2nd' from the left...with the red shirt/long hair.
They were not in debarge they are the older brothers of the group debarge. But only two of them are debarge, one of the lead singers and the base player on this song
Please listen to Usher's song "Tell Me." His falsetto is purely insane. I had no idea he could hit such a high note. You will not be disappointed! Serious R&B song. Peace!
Bobby Debarge and James Ingram' brother Philip are the lead singer but Bobby And Tommy Debarge didn't sing with Debarge that group was just their younger brothers and sister

I find all the unnecessary stopping of the song more than a little bit off-putting (just to insert a quick reaction--that doesn't add a thing to the review). James Ingram brother was a member of this group whom sang along Bobby debarge
The falsetto is the legendary Bobby DeBarge
Switch gave us a classic indeed with this one. So smooth and enriched with passion
Switch and Debarge were two separate groups. They both contained members that came out of the same family, whose family name was Debarge.😊
The lead singer of "Switch" is Bobby Debarge (falsetto). Bobby's younger siblings formed Debarge. No one from Switch was a member of Debarge.
Bobby did eventually joined DeBarge years after some members left the group and he left Switch.
The LEGENDARY Switch

Yeah...Bobby killing that falsetto. Phillip Ingram doing his thing too. Late-seventies...there's SO much great music from that era.
Ooh Jack. This is a classic song. A throwback for real. Bobby Debarge has one of the best falsetto of all time 🔥🔥🔥
