Footage: Gas cylinders explode at facility in east China

- A fire at a gas company's acetylene cylinder filling facility was put out and massive gas blasts narrowly avoided in Wuxi City of east China's Jiangsu Province on Monday.
The fire broke out at around 9:30 a.m., and video footage shows that some workers were working at the site when cylinders began to explode.
When firefighters arrived, they found hundreds of gas cylinders on fire. The ceiling of the workshop housing the cylinders had partially collapsed.
As rescuers used water cannons to put out the fire, the workers were instructed to move cylinders to safety. The fire was brought under control in two hours.
No one was injured in the incident, and an investigation into the cause is underway.

Fire fighters are very brave and sincere to their job....
You would think some precautions would be taken to prevent this sort of thing...
Especially since acetylene gas is so unstable that you have to keep the cylinders upright, just lay it on its side can make it explode. But if a cylinder happens to fall over and hit the ground you should run for your life in the other direction just the impact can make it explode.
Its an extremely volatile and dangerous gas.
Having even just 1 cylinder means you're supposed to be properly trained in all the safety precautions or either be a qualified welder, like for an oxy/acetylene torch, its just such a really really dangerous gas.
So to be one of those guys running out there when that happened would be the most terrifying thing you could imagine. Just working there at all would terrify me.
Im really surprised that they all didn't go and that anything is still left standing. If they had of all exploded there'd just be a massive hole in the ground where the factory used to be...
This has also happened in the US. It's possible to build an automatic fire suppression system in those factories for real cheap: all these factories already have ball valves in the supply line (ball valves close in a quarter-turn) to cut off the gas flow in emergencies. You put a big spring on the valve to close it, and install a linkage made of Wood's metal, which melts at 158 degrees F, to hold the valve open. If a fire happens the Wood's metal linkage melts, the valve snaps shut and the fire goes out. I'm surprised they didn't have that already.

Courage? Courage is when you're saving lives. Yes it's brave, but: Nobody should have to die for a gas cylinder factory. They should have fought defensively from the outside. Fighters should only be asked to risk themselves for life, not some company's property.
A structure that's this unsafe for the purposee... Should be rebuilt with safety features like compartment walls anyway.
