If you ask me, Camilia is the living embodiment of the trope "Parents as People". She's not a perfect person by any means, and her methods of parenting are a bit questionable, but it's clear that she and Luz love each other dearly, and she only wants the best for her daughter, even if the means to do it aren't always the best.
It's a really good trope if ya ask me, after all in real life isn't every parent a person? I just love when they are not reduced to some random stereotype, and that's if they weren't already dead in the first place. Sooo many protagonists are orphans.

I'm curious to learn about Edric and Emira's relationship with their parents. This would inevitably lead to them showing their own open defiance of their parents in order to help their sister and her friends in a time of crisis, as Alador and Odalia don't seem to be currently aware of just how troublesome the twins can be.
camila is such an amazing character and i hate when people forget about her!!! she’s incredibly patient and caring about luz, and we have never seen her raise her hand or even raise her voice at luz even when luz brought explosives/snakes to school, endangering other people and distrusting their learning environment. camila is a single working mom, probably extremely stressed, but still cares about luz and wants her to have a good life. she even keeps in touch with luz during camp consistently, wanting her to be happy. saying camila is a bad mom is just ignorant, honestly.
I love how Camilla is caring for her dorky daughter and how she likes her creativity. Even thought she and Luz have different ways of spending their lives, they do it together. Nothing's more important in the entire world than family. Peace and love people 😌✌

Eda and Luz's mother-daughter dynamic was my favorite part of the show. Eda grew attached and fond of Luz so quickly, and Luz already looks up to her. I can't wait to see more of them in season 2.

I love how far Eda has come with her motherly like relationship towards Luz. Her little goodbye in Agony of a Witch destroyed me... also I’m with you about Luz’s real mom Rebecca. Maybe later on in the series Luz can learn that there’s nothing wrong with expressing yourself and being yourself but it’s also good to discipline yourself and set boundaries. Honestly I kinda see Luz’s mom as my mom because no matter how aggravating she can be to me I know she just wants what’s best for me. And even though there have been topics that we disagree with for the most part I could understand where she’s coming from even if I don’t like to admit it. Besides she’s definitely better than Amity’s parents 🤣💙💖 if I’m gonna be honest I thought that the twins were just sucking up to Amity in the beginning of Adventures in the Elements because of how annoyed and uninterested Amity was towards them but then I thought about how my cousins can do things that can annoy me too sometimes but we all still love each other like siblings that don’t live together. Maybe me being an only child made it harder for me to make this connection since I don’t have siblings myself so I have no idea what it’s like. Also I forgot about that line in grom about the twins’ greatest fears but maybe that could be brought into affect later about the affects their parents have on them. Once they’re given the opportunity to be their own person Emyra could be ecstatic and immediately want to take the opportunity. Edric on the other hand might be horrified of the idea and possibly have a mental breakdown “if I’m not Emyra’s partner in crime I’m nobody!!” Would be nice to see 2 sides of the same coin in these two.
It all depends on what kind of boundaries you set, though. That camp Camilla (Luz's mom) wanted to send her to sounded an awful lot like that camp from Phineas and Ferb Get Busted, where they destroy the individuality in children and make them mindless drones of conformity. True, Luz needs to learn when to reign in her overzealous nature. But Camilla's ideas seemed more harmful than helpful, in my eyes
@@sadlobster1 maybe an experience later on in the show will make Luz understand what boundaries to set on their own. There is a chance Luz will celebrate her Quinceanera in the boiling aisles so maybe with age will come maturity. I definitely figured out how to plan my days out better overtime on my own. Maybe Luz can too.
Eda's like the crazy aunt that grows on the viewer and you see how much she cares for the main character and their friends. I also hope for Amity and her sibling's relationship to continue to grow because if there is going to be parent drama I hope they can be there for each other. Also (I know some won't agree) I know this season is going to have some pain for the characters and I hope to shed a few tears.
I want to hear more about Eda and Lilith's backstory. Like, how did their parents raise them? Will we hear more about them other than that one single line Eda says at the end of Covention?
I definitely hope we do get a bit of a deep dive into Luz's and Camilia's past in season 2. I agree, she is a bit of an over-hated character, and I feel like there is a deeper side to Luz and Camilia's relationship that the show is holding back on. Who knows, maybe even a tease to Luz's father too.
A lot of their features are actually opposite of each other! You mentioned the lips, but Eda has an upturned nose while Lilith’s is angled more downward. The hair at the sides of their faces are also opposite, Eda’s curve forward, while Lilith’s curve backwards. Eda’s eye is arched towards the top, while Lilith’s arc arched at the bottom. Even their eyebrows are opposite, Eda’s eyebrows are thicker towards the front, while Lilith’s are thicker at the ends!
I just started the video and I wanted to start off that I love how you defend Camila and talked about her as being a parent that is trying her best instead of some cruel women who just doesn’t care and won’t Luz to be a completely different person. More mellowed out sure seeing as Luz can be destructive. I just have how people try to paint Camilla out as a bad guy or even basically erase her out as she did exist, painting Ed’s as Luz’s mom.
Eda Luz and king are like the perfect family. Eda is the fun mom, Luz is the daughter, and king is the little brother. And I guess hooty is the really annoying pet you can't help but love.
@@johnhayward998 Hehe, yeah. If you don't understand the reference, it's from Richard's father's first onscreen appearance in The Amazing World of Gumball.
I'm kind of curious if you've read any of the fanfictions? The ones I've liked the most really dig into the family relationships that exist or are built in the show/world. I especially like seeing Lilith go through her redemption after season 1 by seeing Eda's relationship with Luz and realizing how bad the Blight's have it and stepping up for them. I'm curious what will actually happen in season 2.
I like what you said regarding Lilith but much like the story of Amity and Willow in episode 15 it’s a start and will be able to see the relationship restrengthen itself and become stronger hopefully in season two man there’s so many things I hope for in season two
I'm honestly surprised people had an issue with Camilia, I literally didn't even think Twice about her actions, just seemed like normal good parenting to me
I was a bit disappointed we never saw Amity and Lilith interact outside of Convention. After that they were largely absent from any episode featuring the other, with the last two episodes of season 1, both heavily featuring Lilith, having Amity stuck in bed. In season 2 Amity doesn't visit the owl house until Lilith moves out.
I cant be the only one that thinks Amity's parents are divorced right?? I mean for a show I like this, im pretty sure Dana wont mind getting more drama into the show. lol Edit: IM CALLING IT
I can't wait for Camilia and Eda to face off and have a moment of mutual "I disagree with everything you say and have done... And I will protecc Luz from you!" ... But with magic and big mom energy. Then redemption arc... Then camilia, eda, Amity and lilith teaming up to be team luz in a "oh dear god... I have underestimated these women... I should run" type fight.
Can someone also say something about King and Luz's Big Sister/little Brother relationship it's so sweet and it's nice how she genuinely cares for King and King always wants to hang out and be around luz because they bond so well together. It's adorable 🥰.
I really hope season 2, Luz tells her friends about her relationship with her mother and later on in the series, Camilia finds out that she's not at camp and the letters weren't from Luz. Luz and Camilia have to talk to each other and she tells her mom where she's really at. Hope Camilia finally understands Luz and see that Luz doesn't need to go to camp. Luz is happy of who she is and she has friends that gets her.
Wait what about the Blight's connection to Hecate? Am I the only one one who thinks the Blight women could be a version of her? Hecate is mentioned all thoughout the 1st season. On one hand, she seems to parallel Amity (just as Azura parallels Luz). On the other hand, she is the (Greek) Goddess of not only Theurgy (rituals that make talking to the Gods possible, or here: talking to the Titan) but also necromancy. We even see a statue of Hecate in the finale (it's the three-woman figure that turns people into stone). Hecate also happens to be a guardien of pathways between realms (or you know: portals), specifically to the underworld. This could be some weird forshadowing that the three Blight women might be a different form of Hecate (a three-woman Goddess of which one is old and two are younger). Or do you guys think Emperor Bellos is trying to open a portal to the underworld? Will Amity have to go there? Is she is going to be a necromancer? Pls I need some answers, I feel like a conspirator haha
Honestly it would be super interesting if Luz’s mom saw what her daughter was doing in person. It could develop their relationship, and it could make her see that her daughter wasn’t weird, just ahead of her time.
If you want MY opinion, Eda acts more like a mother to Luz than Camilla does. Though she only appeared in Episode One, she seemed desperate to have her daughter behave like a "normal" kid; even if it meant putting her into a camp that destroys creative thinking and individuality. I know Luz acted...a bit too far, back then but she's gained better control over her weird tendencies; after coming to the Isles. She's gained loads of friends, a possible girlfriend, has developed insane magic skills and grown as a person...everything Camilla believed that summer camp would do. While Camilla and Luz truly do love each other, as seen through their brief interactions; Luz's fears from Grom still hold some water. Regardless of whatever kind of social, emotional or psychological improvements they've had; would ANY parent let their child remain in a fantastical world? Furthermore, if Camilla tries to take her daughter back home for "safety's sake;" it will only create more problems than they would solutions. Eda might fight back, Luz's new friends might try to keep Camilla from taking her away, Amity might attempt to use her magic to hold Camilla back and King...best HE can do is bite at Camilla's ankles in defiance. In short, while Camilla DOES mean well; Luz said so herself that she fits in better in the Boiling Isles than she ever did in the Human World. Why attempt to take that away from her, even if you have "good intentions"
I wouldn’t necessarily say Eda is more of a mother, they just go about being parental in different ways. I don’t think that makes Camila any less of a mother. She’s just looking out for Luz and is worried about her. Once Luz’s actions harmed others, that’s when Camila steps in. Camila even says she loves Luz’s creativity, but she needs to learn how to control it. As to why Luz is seen as more “normal” on the Boiling Isles, it’s a crazy magical fantasy world, pretty much anything Luz does there is more normal by comparison, haha. But, I will point out that a lot of the show deals with Luz not fitting in on the Boiling Isles either. She’s constantly overlooked and looked down upon because she’s human. In both the human realm and demon realm, Luz doesn’t feel like she always fits in, however they are for different reasons. A big theme in the show is finding people who care about you just as you are. Again, Camila cares and loves Luz, it’s only when her actions hurt others that she suggests the camp. But, on the Boiling Isles, Luz is able to find her find people who like her for who she is. I don’t think Eda is directly the cause of her finding friends and bettering herself, not saying that Eda doesn’t help, but I don’t think it’s fair to attribute any and all of Luz’s development during her time on the Boiling Isles to Eda being a better mom than Camila. Eda has only recently begun to fill that maternal role for Luz. I think Luz has just been able to surround herself with others who get her (outside of her mother) and that has led to a positive change in her behavior. Also, I’ll point out that the whole “weirdo” theme in the first episode of the season is kinda pushed more heavily than the rest of the season. Sure, the whole “Us weirdos have to stick together” line comes back in the season one finale, but I think the crew also just got stronger at writing and took a step away from the somewhat forced “weirdo” theme and messaging that was so prominent in the first episode.
@@ItsRebeccaRose Ok I see you have a lot reasons for why eda could be better counter point some times Luz has adapted with or without eda's help most of them has consequences but she does learn from them and eda might always ready to land a hand
@@ItsRebeccaRose What I meant about the Eda thing is Luz spending more time with her has helped her become slightly more confident with who she is. As such, she's more confident in going out and meeting people. Sure, she's often overlooked on the Isles...but I think Luz had it worse in the human world. You've got Willow who was constantly viewed as a "weakling" by others, Gus (a kid who's more invested in learning more about humans than anyone else,) the formerly Detention Track kids (Viney, Jerbo and Barcus) and others. On a side note, what could that Summer Camp ever teach Luz that Hexside or ANYWHERE on the Isles wouldn't be able to teach her; doing taxes, writing out mortgages...all pretty useless stuff
Important announcement of the Third season of The Owl House The Owl House has been renewed for a shortened 3rd season. We want at least another full season length!! Dana posted on Twitter that we will be getting a short season containing just 3 special length episodes; the equivalent of 6 normal episodes. It is confirmed that this will be the last season. This was NOT Dana's choice; she had been hoping for a normal 10-20 episode pickup, and not expecting a cancellation. As The Owl House is one of Disney's most popular currently airing shows, my speculation is that this cancellation was brought on by budget constraints due to COVID-19 and the inability to run the Disney parks. Dana tweeted that if we want to see the show continue, TOH merch, or anything else TOH related, snail mail is the way to go. Disney still reads and responds to snail mail. This is an effective way of contacting them. They don't appear to read DMs and emails, presumably due to 1) the sheer number they receive, and 2) the fact that people mailing letters are statistically over 18 and therefore able to earn and spend money (like on, say, cable subscriptions or merch). Watching the show on Disney+ or signing this petition might be effective as well. One thing I'm interested in is why Willow's fathers would want her in the abomination track, even when she clearly prefers (and excels at) plant magic. She says it's because the abomination track has "better opportunities," but, from what little of Willow's dads we've seen, they seem to have a loving dynamic from the memories we saw in Understanding Willow. From a plot POV, it's probably just to give some development for Willow in episode 3, instead of starting her out in the plant track, but I'm curious if there's something more going on there...
The Owl House has to take Lilith in, there isn't any other safe place for Lilith to go. I see two things coming of this. The Clawthorne sisters will riff on The Odd Couple, with Eda as Oscar and Lily as Felix. Also, Lilith is going to go overboard trying to win Luz over; much like a new step-mom trying way too hard to be nice to a new step-kid.
@@michaelandreipalon359 My theory on what's going to happen is that their dad ignores Lilith because he knew she was the one who cast the curse and sold her soul to the Emperor's Coven, a move he disapproves of because he is against the system.
I think their parents were strict and only gave them conditional love, which means they just showed affection when their daughters did something to "deserve" their approval. That's why Eda, being the young prodigy she was, received a lot more praise than Lilith. I suppose Eda never cared, since she constantly got into trouble in the hopes of breaking her parents expectations for her and her future. But Lilith always craved for their parents attention and envied Eda because of it. Not only that but she resented the fact that before Eda came into her life she received all the love and respect from her parents because she was their only child. Then Eda was born and suddenly Lilith had to compete for their parents affection, and Eda always defeated her, even when she wasn't trying to win them over. What makes the Clawthorn's story tragic is that Lilith only realized Eda cared more about her than their stupid parents when it was too late, she was so blinded by her resentment and the fear of losing to Eda the thing that their parents demanded from them most (to be a part of the Emperor's Coven) that she didn't stop to think about their bond as sisters. When they get older their parent's approval becomes obsolete and that only intensifies Lilith's guilty over the reason she cursed Eda in the first place.
Yea, I am curious how will be Lilith doing in next season. Everything she worked for, her position and status, her place in society is gone. Even if that was just a means to reach a goal of curing Eda, it was years of work. She will have to build her life from scratch. I am wondering to what degree, if any, this will feature in story.
one interesting thing I noticed about the characters is their loving style (be it plotonic , romantic , or found familyness) , like lillith's one is gifts and acts of service , eda's is quality time , luz's is also acts of service , and words of affirmation (as she shows her affection by her actions in trying to help eda plus she blushes when amity helps her , plus ed and em in the library ep and the wizard episode etc ) , amity also has a similar style however she also has physical touch as a sign of a close bond , hooty's is quality time etc v.v interesting in my opinion
Okay, I feel like I have to defend myself about not liking Camilla. It’s one thing to step in and intervene after your kid has been endangering others, but to send them to a summer camp designed to stifle their creativity, which for Luz is basically her entire person? That’s taking it way too far. You don’t need to give your kid life-long trauma just because they made a bad decision.
exactly ! i never thought she was a bad mom per say, but her decision to send luz to a place like that really frustrated me as someone whos extremely creative, and thats a very big part of me. the pamphlet .. literally says "think inside the box". its obviously very stifling :(
I am with you all the way. Creativity should be cultivated, refined and supported no matter what. Going to that camp is basically sending her to get a non-invasive lobotomy. I would rather die than go to that camp.
Camila sending her to camp came from a place of love and concern, but that *doesn't make it right.* For a Season 2 comparison, she's a lot like Gwen with Eda: trying to cut out the 'problem' instead of manage it.
I don’t think Camilla is a bad mom or person, but her solution, although out of good intentions, wasn’t the right call. If I were her, I would sign Luz up for therapy, not hypnotic, but the kind of therapy that gives Luz a gentle reality check that doesn’t rid of her creativity, but to set boundaries.
I always felt a bit uncomfortable about how Camilia chose to handle Luz. She clearly does love her but forcing her to 'fit in' by surrounding her with people she can't relate to now, is poor parenting. You can't force Luz to be someone she isn't ready to be, especially for the Summer, where she should be allowed to be free and express herself. Eda may be lazy and a bit irresponsible at times, but she encourages Luz to have freedom. To make her own choices and not be carried through life. Camilia seems content to have her daughter leave behind what makes her unique. Just because people at school don't accept her way of thinking, doesn't mean there are no people in the world who would accept her. And honestly, I'd be more than happy to spend time with someone like Luz.
I love he family dynamics ex! I really love how you talk about each characters and it's really cool I love it hell they talk about each characters they're backstory between their parents and their friends and others things they gone mine💕💖😍👍
She called it. She fucking called it, I never in a thousand years woulda guessed at the relationship between Lilith and Hooty being existent I thought she'd treat him like the others do, when the episodes aired I thought "holy shit." And now I'm seeing this video and we got this one crazy good analyzer be like "yup uhuh yup like I said yup uhuh yup."
Fantastic video I really love this. And any other TOH videos that you make I’ll also love I’m sure. But just so you know, it’s Camila with an E sound and not an i sound
I didn't like how Edrick and Emira (Sorry if I spelt that wrong) read her diary but I love the character development they had in the past two seasons and how they were being super caring to Amity in Looking through the Glass Ruins!
Ngl, Eda's thing being an owl and Lilith being a Raven is actually ironic. Naturally in the wild, Ravens and Owls don't get along, so it's kind of cool to see that be implemented into these characters about how different they are and even in beast form, they fight like how actual Ravens and Owls would.
I just now noticed that the darker green color in Amity’s hair looks somewhat like the color in Edric and Emera’s hair. (Yes, I know that Amity’s Mom dyes her hair).
Let's not forget Lilith's remark in Agony Of A Witch after Eda is captured that she is with her 'real family'. I think, other than healing Eda's curse, Lilith's main motivation was getting her family back together. And given the neglect of Lilith by her mom shown in Keeping Up A-fear-ances, that would make a lot of sense.

Word

I just realized Eda has a shaded bottom lip and Lilith has a shaded top lip. Neato!
Just shows how different they are as adults.
@@ItsRebeccaRose wh- that’s so many more opposites! And here I am going “Eda has poofy hair and Lilith has straight hair haha so different”

Does anyone get the feeling that Luz has no friends in the earth realm and is consider the black sheep?

I like what you said regarding Lilith but much like the story of Amity and Willow in episode 15 it’s a start and will be able to see the relationship restrengthen itself and become stronger hopefully in season two man there’s so many things I hope for in season two
Than theres Luz's father who went to go get milk from the grocery store.
But luz did get eda as a second mum... I think she probably won that one in the end.
I just have an idea of hooty and Lilith playing chess and it is just hilarious.
I'm pretty sure it's going to relate to creepy lose with that nurse that looked exactly like Camilla

Honestly it would be super interesting if Luz’s mom saw what her daughter was doing in person. It could develop their relationship, and it could make her see that her daughter wasn’t weird, just ahead of her time.
18:30 agree
I say eda is a role model for Luz and no won can say otherwise
@@ItsRebeccaRose
Ok I see you have a lot reasons for why eda could be better counter point some times Luz has adapted with or without eda's help most of them has consequences but she does learn from them and eda might always ready to land a hand
@@sadlobster1
Mostly I'm saying Luz prefer the boiling isles than earth because it's where she belongs there's no denying that

Important announcement of the Third season of The Owl House
The Owl House has been renewed for a shortened 3rd season.
From a plot POV, it's probably just to give some development for Willow in episode 3, instead of starting her out in the plant track, but I'm curious if there's something more going on there...
i love seeing all the preditions about lilith staying at the owl house and having comedic interactions with hootie, luz and king all come true.
Hey, Rebecca. What do you think Lilith's relationship with their parents will be like?
Man, I want to see their parents, provided they're still alive and kicking.
@@michaelandreipalon359 My theory on what's going to happen is that their dad ignores Lilith because he knew she was the one who cast the curse and sold her soul to the Emperor's Coven, a move he disapproves of because he is against the system.
@@StellaMagic100 We're no less sure about this yet, but we'll see.
GREAT VIDEO LIVED IT
I love their family dynamics because they really show different relationships.

I so like the Camila is Azura theory. It would justify cam trying to put luz in the camp.
That's a cool theory, but Camila was already justified sending Luz to camp. Luz brought live snakes and fireworks to school.

*DID YOU KNOW* Dragons can swoop down at anytime so watch the sky and be save adventures, have a wonderful day.
That’s one thing the owl house is better at.
And honestly, I'd be more than happy to spend time with someone like Luz.
this is amazing

Let's not forget Lilith's remark in Agony Of A Witch after Eda is captured that she is with her 'real family'.
