Andrew is the man. Learned so much over a long period of time... To have this is priceless because of the stories and laid back knowledge and how things transpired over time. Both these guys are legends. 🔥👊🧡👍🔥
That you brought Andrew on this podcast is just amazing. The combination of knowledge and easy-goings makes him one of my absolute fav engineers to listen too. Oh and both of you dudes look just a buttery smooth looking now as Eddie did back then 🤩
I loved every minute of this. You are two peas in a pod. I probably know you personally better than anyone on this platform and I can easily say this was one of my favorite interview/videos because it was so raw and genuine and totally informative and to see two massively successful people in this industry so humble is so great to see and the amount of knowledge and experience you both have resonated in this video and seeing you both in your element was refreshing to watch …thanks for sharing this Tony B and for the early share it is a great hour plus 🙌💯‼️🔥😊
- As somebody who's seen 40+ Scheps interviews, that is the most genuinely engaged I think I've ever seen him, lol. (It's 'cute' how much he reveres Tchad, lol.) - There was like, zero lag in that interview. No stepping on each other. Weird and nice. - This Ed Delena dude... Impressive career (and, yes, beautiful hair..) Interested to hear from him... and why he got out of audio. - Lastly... I +feel+ it used to be common practice to A/B the gear you have available to you. NOW... instead of doing this, ppl seek out 'secret' techniques and plug-ins they can procure. (People spend more time thinking about a sound they MIGHT be able to have than the sound they actually have.) If 'we' producers/mixers hung out more in-person, +I think+ there'd be more reinforcement of, "You can PROLLY figure it out w/ what you already have." But, when you go searching for plugins/techs, you're gonna mostly find advertisements and up-sells. Really awesome conversation! Thank you!
Man o' man this was a banger. So much fun to learn and got me cackling like a loon while mowing muh lawn. Somehow 'cowbell' was worked in?!? Even the throwaway lines are seriously hefty. So good!
I love that comment about the tutorial bros: they're never doing it in real time. 99% of the time Its not a true representation of working on a session or mix, its just something they've seen elsewhere and are parroting as a "great tip". Brilliant video, thank you chaps.
Great conversation :-). Rg the MPCs vs Roland clock - this is absolutely valid till now, even the most current MPCs are slightly drifting. The reason "should" be to humanize the rhythm. I am not an MPC head, but I like it, it is an interesting unpredictable kind of micro-swing
7:33 That was the perfect time to ask him what he saw in the theater when Michael collapsed, what he saw, what was happening afterwards.that would have been an interesting story and clip for everyone who didn't watch the This is it movie,or follow the news stories,or for those that would have been interested in a first hand perspective of what it was like when Michael passed.I'm not trying to be critical.I am saying that seeing it through Andrew's eyes at the time of it happening could have been enlightening.but I do also understand you keeping the subject on something positive and more studio talk. Have a good day Tony. I'm happy that you got to enjoy yourself and catch up with an old friend. They are to be treasured. Take care.
i remember the old ones having 96 ppqn. and no one can tell if a note lands on 93 or 95. now 960 ppqn is standard everywhere. good luck with your swing theory
This is brilliant. Great chat. Alan Moulder's work on the self-titled Royal Blood album is incredible. If only he'd worked with QOTSA before Homme ruined the Arctic Monkeys, ha
I don’t understand the punch in comment. Do you mean that the previously recorded track plays right through the punch-in section or just the lead-in section? When I punch in on Ableton the previously recorded portion definitely doesn’t play during the punch-in portion
Sounds like you have latency issues with the UAD Console? If that's right, you might have a set up wrong. Listen through it like a *console and don't monitor directly through PT when recording. That's the ticket:)
The compressor on Andrew' mic is side chained to the host' mic. Shouldn't it be the other way around so we don't miss any of the guest' thoughts? I see this on many interviews. Don't get it.
Great video! Love the format, just two engineers talking sh1t! lol P.S are you from St. Louis? Ive heard you mention you living there a few times. I only ask because I am from St. Louis and it seems like we have mutuals on instagram.
I'm one of those 7 people finding this video because Andrew Scheps is in the title. And now I have a new channel to follow.

What’s with all these smaller audio channels from absolute legends popping up on my feed that all have Scheps as a guest? I love it!!

Great video fellas. Scheps was so lucky to be graced with your presence. Hope he thanked you

🔥🔥🔥 Fire interview Tony
About to mow the lawn and this will be a great accompaniment! It's already hella fun from the get-go. 🎉

The nerd in me paid a lot of attention to this. Still wonder about design decisions by Akai let alone other companies like Roland etc.
Interview so good I forgot to put it on 1.5x speed
Great interview Tony.. .
You guys are a friggin riot!
NO FREAKING WAY!!!!!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌
This is a joy.

The MPC's have a 96 and 960 PPQN. Timing off, and that's the "swing." By default, it shifts the notes.

Not referring to the swing as a setting involving quantize. We're talking about the tempo drift.
Doug E Fresh’s producer was Dennis Bell - Ollie Cotton engineered.
Thank you!!!
Bruce setting Tannoys on fire! "I'm the best! " lmao 👊🤣👍 28:25
Fucking couple wizards shooting the breeze. What a world we lost.
MPC4000 click tracks wera all over the place when recorderd different times in protools. I was very depressed for a while when i found out haha
