Amazing how some are only here in our lives as a star for a matter of months like Ritchie Valens yet... it proves 10s of years later how they touched our hearts, with their greatness.
Wow. One of my favourite songs. Watched the movie with my son and daughter when they were still small. We repeated the scene where he sings over and again. Now they are all grown and play the song with the children. ❤❤

La versión de rock 'n' roll de Valens en una canción popular mexicana fue un éxito instantáneo en el Top 40 en 1958. On this day in 1987 {July 24th} the Ritchie Valens' bio-movie "La Bamba" opened in theaters across the U.S.A. and Canada... A little over one month earlier on June 21st, 1987 Los Lobos' "La Bamba" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #87; and on August 23rd, 1987 it peaked at #1 {for 3 weeks} and spent a total of seven weeks on the Top 10... It also reached #1 in Canada, Spain, France, Ireland, New Zealand, and Sweden... Twenty eight years earlier in 1959 Ritchie Valen's original version of the song peaked at #22 for 1 week on the Top 100, and that was the position it was at on the day that he died {February 3rd, 1959}... In 1966 Trini Lopez covered it, his version stayed on the Top 100 for 5 weeks, peaking at #86... R.I.P. Richard Steven Valenzuela {1941 - 1959}...
Hi! Greetings from Puebla, Mexico. We are teenagers who love music and we have decided to create a music band. Our most recent song is la Bamba, a song full of culture, joy and most importantly, it is a song that unites us all, no matter what differences we may have. For all those things, we invite you to watch our cover on our channel. We hope you like this version of "La Bamba". Dear greetings from Puebla! ua-cam.com/video/xFAutyAurzA/v-deo.html

This is a great historical song of the spanish rock n roll Americana from the Life of Ritchie Valens thru the eyes of Los Lobos. It's basically a treat for the kids of both worlds.
I just saw them in concert yesterday at the Palace Theater. It was great. Even though it was a concert hall meant for symphonies, we all stood up and made sort of an organized mash pit. Since they were so good (and because we were cheering for so long after their last song), they came back out and played this as well as "My Generation" for an encore. Yeah... It was awesome...
gran cancion para gran historia mas de cien veces he visto la pelicula y aun le grito a RITCHIE que no suba a esa aeronave.El vivir es dormir, el morir es despertar.VIVA MEXICO Y LA BAMBA.

1987: a rare occasion, where the cover exceeds the original. David Hidalgo and Los Lobos wanted to honor Ritchie Valens' 1958 classic for his biopic, and they flat nailed it. This just explodes off the 45.

I'd just started school at the time this came out (summer '87 in England), and somehow convinced myself that I could run faster if I sang this song at the same time. I should put it to the test one day!
