Wow, all my friends (one who was a maytag repair man) all told me my circulation pump had gone. I came agross your video and bingo, it was the cutting assembly that was causing the issue. Thanks for saving me $900 on a new machine. Took me all of 20 minutes to fix. Cant wait to tell my husband. Thanks again!

I have a Whirlpool dishwasher with a similar design to this one. It was making loud noises so I figured I would give this a go. Everything went fine until reassembly. Unlike yours, my small metal shopping propeller was in tact. I had a hell of a time trying to get it back in. I ended up breaking it off of that metal screen. I am washing a new load of dishes right now. However, the noise is still there.....

      Thanks John,
It could be that the bearings on your circulation motor are shot and making a whole lot of noise.
I think replacing it with a new circulation pump should do the trick.

Mine was sounding rough and vibrating the kitchen floor. I literally put a squirt of Dawn dish detergent in it and ran a high temp wash. I did this after removing the screen filter, bottom rack and bottom sprayer. In 10 minutes it was running clean. Might want to try that first before taking everything apart.

Thank you so much for this video. Mine was a Kitchen Aid, but had the same problem with loud noise. I followed your instructions and disassembled down to the sump and found that the
shaft on the dishwasher chopper assembly had been sheared in half, apparently by some pieces of plastic debris that found itself down in that area and prevented rotation. Just ordered the chopper assembly online for about $7.50, instead of having to call the repairman for $100 or more, I'm sure. Also was able to do a complete cleaning, as you have shown.

Hint. When the door is open it becomes a big funnel for anything inadvertently knocked off the counter. Was looking at dishwashers at Lowes the other day and mentioned how some filters are difficult to access. The sales person didn't know they came with filters. He is my age 60's, and had the same model we were looking at. When I pulled out the filter he said he isn't concerned because he rinses everything clean before putting in the dishwasher. No energy/water conservation concerns there.

Had the exact same noise that you had (I don't know if you call it grinding or droning or ???) on my 13 year old KitchenAid. Cleaned out the chopper/emaciator with the same amount of junk as you. When I ran a Normal cycle before I put the shelves in, no sound, but when I ran loaded both racks the sound reappeared. In the first minute of your video, what made you think it was the bearings on the main pump (which cause megabucks to fix)?

    • @QuickAndEasy5MinuteAppliance

My dishwasher is currently loud like this and I pulled large pieces of water chestnut out along with end caps of a cutting board. But haven't done the tutorial because I think my husband should because he doesn't listen to me when I say don't put pieces food in the dishwasher. They let food dry on the plate and do not soak it off and remove it before putting them through the dishwasher.

Excellent Video! I followed your steps and found some garbage that needed to be removed. However, wondering if I've made a mistake in the reassembly process. Now, the dishwasher will not start (Whirlpool Gold Series). The Sensing light is on, and the indicator display seems to just show lines rotating around the display and it will never start. Unfortunately, we can't locate a manual for this machine so have no idea what its trying to tell us. Have I made some error in reassembly, or is something else going on? Thanks!

You should drive plastic screws by hand. First turning the screw backwards until you feel it fall into the existing threads, then forward. By just doing it where ever it happens to be, sometimes it will follow the existing thread, but often it creates a new one. After a few times doing that it weakens the plastic and the screw will strip out.

The food chopper does work, but it wears out over time, just like any other blade does. And obviously, if you have glass in there and other hard objects, it will likely destroy the chopper. But if it's just a few noodles, the chopper will take care of them just fine. I imagine you'd have much bigger problems if the chopper wasn't there to begin with.
