LS1 3 Osmoregulation activity with veggies WIS

  • Investigating osmoregulation in samples of vegetables. Calculating the percentage mass change due to osmosis when the vegetable samples are placed in different concentration salt, NaCl, solution. Vegetables were cut into similar sized pieces and placed in 5 different concentration salt solution. 1.0 M NaCl solution was diluted into 5 different concentrations - and five different vegetable samples for each concentration were massed and put in the salt solution and left for 3 hours. After this the samples were taken out of the solutions, wiped with paper towel and remassed. The percentage mass change was calculated foreach concentration and the results graphed. Hypertonic, isotonic and hypotonic cells are investigated- both for plant cells and animal red blood cells.
