Thank you for this excellent video. The Go Pro footage helped. I feel like I have a much better understanding of how laparoscopic surgery is actually performed. One question: I don't understand the difference between TEP versus TAPP repair. Can you tell me which type of surgery this was and why was that procedure chosen?
LJ, This surgery was TEP since it is 'Totally ExtraPeritoneal'. TAPP requires entering the abdominal cavity. There is no one best surgery and it usually left up to the surgeons experience and training. Best, CAHS
Is mesh the only way to repair a hernia? Are some dissolvable? How likely is it the mesh will migrate and the tacs cause nerve pain later? Thanks kindly
@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists I read as much but wanted your pro thoughts so thanks! So with hernia i thought the mesh was "keeping it in place" so if it dissolves is it just staying around till like, the muscles get strong enough to support or something? thanks again
That was so awesome to watch. My sister is having the surgery on the 10th.
Thank you for your comments.

For highly athletic people which is a stronger repair with the mesh less likely to fail open or laproscopic?
Recurrence rates for open and laparoscopic surgery are both roughly 2% so we do not tend to favor one over the other when offering surgery.

Thank you for sharing your comments. There are some meshes which are biologic and absorb over time. Mesh migration is very unusual.

Shouldn't TAPP not be used anymore since it is more invasive entering the abdominal cavity?
Many surgeons safely use TAPP for their minimally invasive inguinal hernia repairs. This is also the approach for all robotic inguinal hernia repairs.
Which mesh did you use?
Our office typically uses a Medtronic Dextile mesh for inguinal hernia repairs.
I have this same problem 😢
