So I've been commenting on how you should do Kissing the Shadows by Children of Bodom. I'm not so sad anymore about you not doing that song because you just did perhaps a more meaningful song. Thank you for giving us a decomposition of one of Alexi Laiho's last works. COBHC forever. Rest in power, Allu.
Have to remember that kissing the shadows was done in 3 days as a ”fillersong”. Its fast and the whole song is basically shredding but its not so impressive from the production standpoint :/ (I would love to see him compare cob’s songs from different albums. I thinks its worth digging into;) )
The singer and lead guitarist, Alexi Laiho, passed away a couple of months ago and his former band "Children Of Bodom" was my very first metal band... It's such a tragedy. He was one of the best guitarists. R.I.P. Alexi "Wildchild" Laiho.🤘🏻 Please check out Children Of Bodom - Kissing The Shadows (lyrics or audio).
this is a band formed by Alexi Laiho, who died on the 29th Dec last year at just 41 years of age. He was guitarist, vocalist, and founder of Children of Bodom, one of the big melodic death metal bands, which broke up a few years ago and he came back with this band as a spiritual successor. This song has all the hallmarks of a Children of Bodom song.
Indeed, also great at constructing songs around riffs, a la Tony Iommi. Are You Dead Yet is a great example on what he could do without flashy solos, just subtle lead lines and 2 fantastic riffs with everything built around them.
Alexi Laiho :‘-( I’m having incredible respect for quite a bunch of musicians but Alexi was always a safe spot on top, Rest In Peace, wildchild. Another night, another demise took place again and the cadaverous wind blew out the light -.- :((
That is a big reason he is such a hero of mine (being all about the melodies) he's such a great composer he just happens to be doing it in the metal format if that makes sense. They almost have pop sensibilities thrown in too it's not all just flashy technique.
Love to see you react to this Alexi passed away a little over a week after this video was recorded. Such an inspiration for countless guitarists. Their early material had a lot of classical influence - Alexi started on violin and then moved to guitar - and then moved to a more "thrashy" sound later on. Downfall, Silent Night Bodom Night, and Kissing the Shadows are all amazing songs with jaw-dropping performances. Hope to see you react to some older Bodom!
And one of them 3 is a cover. Originally played by Dissection, song called Where Dead Angels Lie. And what a cover it is. Damn shame, just when Alexi had found some passion for making new music and a burn to perform on stages again with a helluva lineup around him.
I think what gave Children of Bodom an edge was the fact that Alexi Liaho had a strong foundation in classical music. Before he started playing guitar at the age of 12 he used to play violin and performing at 7 so the music theory he got from classical violin playing clearly influenced his guitar playing.
Geez Geebz not to worry, if you post something that doesn’t ring my bell I just don’t watch it. Just because I love what you do doesn’t mean I have to watch every decomposition. Keep doing what you do, you are phenomenal at it. Can’t please everyone every time. Alllllriiight!

He did it! I was so happy to see this reaction. Alexi Laiho is responsible for the guitars, vocals, and songwriting. Fun fact, he was actually a very natural, spontaneous songwriter. He had the songs pretty much complete in his head before he would even show it to the rest of the band, he memorized all of his songs as he wrote them. I would very very highly recommend checking out his former band, for which he became known for; "Children of Bodom". The man was a genius and one of the most tasteful guitarists to ever grace the metal genre (as you mentioned during the solo section). Sadly, he passed away at the end of 2020, at the age of 41 :( RIP I should also mention that Daniel Freyberg played the second solo beginning with all the natural harmonics, killer player! Thanks for the reaction man, I know I harassed the shit out of you to do this. Looking forward to what comes next.

Well, new stuff from this group isn’t coming, because Alexi, the singer/guitarist/composer died before this was released... huge loss 😢 however, I understood that there are couple songs that are still waiting to be released 🤔
Alexi died just 9 days after recording that music video, you can see how thin and sickly he is in the video. This project Bodom after midnight is just Alexi after the original band Children of Bodom stopped playing in 2019 or 2020. To my knowledge they only recorded this song and 2 others before his passing, but Children of Bodom has albums all the way back to 1997. They became huge really fast because of their melodic take on death metal.
To the point you made about the brush stroke in a painting, I had the privilege of going to a museum in Florence once, with some paintings of great renown on display. I can't remember (to my great regret) the exact painting, but I was able to get up close to one and really take a look at it. When up close, I got to see that so much of what we see from a distance is single strokes of precisely placed dabs of paint that make up the whole painting. The one that struck me the most was a single streak that depicted a woman's mouth. It was a streak of paint that squiggled on the canvas, obviously done in a single stroke, but seen from afar was a perfect representation of a woman's mouth. It was then that I understood what the term "Master Stroke" meant.
Geebz, I very much appreciate the way you can dissect a song as voluptuous and overwhelming as this on first listen. There is indeed a lot of *composition* going on there. Take care, stay safe.
I got to see them live in Montreal years ago on their Are You Dead Yet tour.. the venue was The Medley.... amazing epic show.... Amon Amarth opened up.. then Trivium, then Bodom.... they even had the old junked up car on stage when they came out. and it was all smoke rolling out of the windows... they hotboxed it.. lol
Children of Bodom are one of my favorite bands, and were one of a special few metal bands I discovered when I was younger and new to heavier music (Nevermore, Nightwish and Scar Symmetry were others). Their 2019 album "Hexed" was a fantastic album and the band having been around since the early 90s I believe they still sounded like a fresh band, the songwriting just tight and fierce and catchy and melodic as well. You should listen to "If You Want Peace...Prepare For War", a great song of theirs and full of super catchy riffs. Other songs you should check out: Another Space Song by Failure Backlit by ISIS (band) Mein Teil by Rammstein The River Dragon Has Come by Nevermore
So happy to see a review for the frontman and song writer Alexi Laiho who passed recently. The man was a one of a kind musician. A talent that is sorely missed.
I was never a huge COB fan, but growing up with guitarists it was impossible not to fall in love with Alexi and his talent. That being said, Are You Dead Yet? and Blooddrunk hit when I was just getting into metal and those records will always be part of my soundtrack. They're the most 'radio friendly' albums of the catalog but I think are also the best examples of his skill as a guitarist, vocalist AND songwriter. Check out anything off those or the title tracks if you want more from Alexi.
Love to see the Bodom! This band is actually the continuation of Children Of Bodom, whose late lead singer Alexi Laiho just passed away in January. Would love to see their earlier work on here.
Not sure if I feel happy or want to cry when I listen to this track... Alexi and the boys pulled me through a bunch of rough periods in my life.. still devestated by his passing. Will blast his tracks for as long as I can
Just keep on doing what you're doing @Geebz, never mind the negative feedback - hey, nobody's perfect and you keep these things coming at us amidst all else you do. I'm always back checking out what's next in your series even though it may not be my cup of tea/pint of beer. I always learn something new and maybe get turned on to a new band (happened a few times already). A lot of this extreme heavy stuff is not my usual choice but I appreciate and respect the level of musicianship and what you have to say.
It might have made more sense to react to Children of Bodom first, but still it gives me an opportunity to give a listen to Bodom after Midnight. Bodom after Midnight is just a continuation of Children of Bodom, a melodic Death/Black Metal band founded in the late 90's and fronted by Alexi Laiho, who unfortunately passed away in December last year. Alexi Laiho is one of Metal all times best guitarists, already composing and performing crazy solos and melodies on his guitar at the age of 16. He was just crazy talented, the first 4 Children of Bodom albums are masterpieces and his contribution to Finnish Metal and Metal in general is consequent. I might get me this Bodom after Midnight album for old times' sake and to pay a tribute to Alexi. Not a big fan of the prod though. Also when you get the chance: Dir En Grey - Vinushka. (do you still check the recommendation on UA-cam, or should we send them to you somewhere else?) Keep up the great work man!
Wooow dude! Never would've seen this coming. Thanks to everyone who recommended the song and to geebz for choosing this one. Alexi Laiho needs more recognition although he was one of the Gods among us already. It's really sad his life had to end on a high note and true "Cliffhanger" as we got only one EP from Bodom After Midnight. He inspired so many young and old people, generations, around the globe to grab a guitar or scream. His flawless playing techniques, heavy yet soulful riffs & solos and just badass songwriting, haunting lyrics that were smushed in a great personality overall and high work-ethic that was praised. And I have to mention that his relationship with booze is the thing that caught up and killed him finally. But I will never let that throw a shade on the celebration of his accomplishments, skills and much beloved art he was able to give us while alive with the guys from Children of Bodom and shortlived yet impactful Bodom After Midnight group. I hope he gets to play with Lemmy now. Rest in peace Alexi, COBHC for life, have a good one!
It was quite devastating to hear that alexi died in the very end of last year. The man was a genius. Not only that, but a month before his death he was (with the band) explaining on an interview in a finnish music magazine called soundi about how ecstatic they were about this new project, being a new start/trail from children of bodom. If you want some old bodom magick, then i suggest songs like 'kissing the shadows' and 'hatebreeder' as well as 'towards dead end'. There's tons more though. That's not the main point though. The main point is that he was amazing.
I'm so glad that you react to this Song... I've been listening to COB for 23 years now. Alexi was such a talented guitarist and composer, miss him with deep sadness. It's his last Gift for us fans! Thanks for this last masterpiece, Alexi. Rock on wherever you are now "Wild Child" ! 🖤😥🖤🤘🏻
Definitely check out Bastards of Bodom; Trashed, Lost and Strungut; Bed of Razors; Warheart, Lake Bodom, and the song Bodom After Midnight. The fact that Alexi could shred that hard and also sing like a madman still blows me away. I'm so glad I got to see them live.
Oh man I haven't even watched yet. I'm just commenting because I'm excited to watch this. I have a Stockholm Knockout/Chaos Ridden Years tattoo. It's a Children of Bodom cover. One of the raddest bands to ever scorch the earth. RIP Wildchild
I'm 11 years older than Alexi,, and my First album was HALO ,,, OF BLOOD!!! dude I'm so blown away.. I love the speed, but it really kicks your nuts when it drops to a slow power beat, off tempo and musically melodic genius einstein!!!
Alexi Laiho died in December, sorry to break that to you. RIP Alexi, you were almost pretty enough to kiss on the inside cover of the Hatebreeder album.
It's not Children Of Bodom, it was Alexi who started a new band, since they had some issues inside the COB about the rights of the name etc.... sadly Alexi passed away December 29th...
Please do more of Alexi’s work, his previous band Children of Bodom, songs like Towards dead end, Everytime I Die, Lake Bodom, Downfall.. There’s plenty of incredible tracks to choose from!
"Primordial - Empire Falls" Would be great if you could do a video on in the future? Any song from Primordial is great though so the song doesn't really matter.
Love the videos, not sure if you've had any request for the band "the faceless" song "planetary duality pt. 1&2" 9 min song, but what the drummer has to go through and tempo changes. Always a great watch.
The band Children of Bodom's amazing title track, the song "Children of Bodom" from the Hatebreeder album, is a masterpiece. Hatebreeder as a whole is an incredible album.
This band was allmost like founding father for this specifig Metal Music genre. This song is pretty straight forward / in your face, but they could create more complex song structures when ever they felt like it, so it's not because of lack of talent. On this last EP they returned to their original style (after so many years) and it's amazing EP. Also I always give respect to musicians who are able to play complex guitar riffs at the speed of light while singing. Alexi was one sort of mastermind, R.I.P. wild child!
I'm honestly pretty bummed out learning that Alexi died... All those betcha can't play this riffs and UA-cam videos I watched as a teenager that blew my mind really had a lasting effect on me...I still have his songs mixed in my Playlist 😞
rip Laiho, seems kinda weird place to start, but sure, why not. :) please do Pantera Cemetery Gates, it's perfect song, when you have not done Pantera, and get your mind blown with that solo and how Phill(singer) and Dime(guitar player) are riffing off and kinda challengin each other.
Aloha! Me again - Bjork - Joga! Also, I was one of the people who commented about Manson being a POS. It's nothing against you, as you said, you are just checking out new music. It's more about providing context. Believe me, I was very sad to find out about some of the stuff he had done, I was a fan for many years. I have the same problem with Jackson. Separating the art from the artist is a tough thing to parse, and is a very in depth discussion. I wouldn't worry about for your channel. It always sucks to find out an artist you love is a terrible person and having to deal with still enjoying what they created or not.
Check out "Every Time I Die" by COB, the epitome of heavy! I use the K-240 headphones as well but recently fell in love with the Beyerdynamic DT-900 Pro X
I've likened Alexi Laiho to the Paganini of the guitar: genius in many ways, got into a lot of trouble, and suffered from vice. His nickname of "Wild Child" was 100% accurate, and he owned it.
Please check out Dark Tranquillity - Iridium! They're one of the founders of the genre and I know you'll have zero regrets going into it :) Also I've been asking for months hehe _persistanceee_
Pantera - 13 Steps to Nowhere is a huge recommendation from me. It's an insane mix of amazing drumming, killer guitar, great bass, and dark vocals. I think it's also got great engineering.
I would love to hear you decompose The day that the world breaks down by Ayreon. It’s a great track featuring 11 singers, violin, cello and a lot more. It has so many influences I’m sure you’re gonna dig it 😉
You should check out children of bodom, That frontman was a genius a true one in a million guy my first idol to ever pass away and it was just a few months ago. I saw someone else recomend you check out death though and i second that alot, songs to check out could be Symbolic, Spirit crusher or lack of comprehension or maybe Pull the plug
If you like this, listen to the band Children of Bodom which is the signer/guitarist's original band... They basically created a genre that has influenced a number of metal bands over the years... He has unfortunately passed away this year at 41 years of age...
I’d love for you to explore some more of the Avenged Sevenfold library. I’m sure you have a ton of those requests...but some highlights for me would be “unholy confessions” “dear god” “sidewinder”“ buried alive” “so far away”...I tried to avoid the mainstream songs I’m sure you’ve already been requested, and show a different side of the band. Obvious hits, bat country, afterlife, beast and the harlot, nightmare, hail to the king. As always love your stuff, keep up the great work!
If this is your first taste of Alexi Laiho, then you're in for a treat if you go down that rabbit hole. Man was a genius.
No doubt, RIP Alexi!

Amon Amarth opened up.. then Trivium, then Bodom.... they even had the old junked up car on stage when they came out. and it was all smoke rolling out of the windows... they hotboxed it.. lol
"That's what happens when you get old." I'm feeling that at 37.
R.I.P Alexi Laiho
You should btw react to Time by Wintersun. Totally amazing!
Mors principium est is also a good time - been listening to leader of the titans recently. Melodeth meets smooth jazz
Nice you mention harmonic pitchs. He was genius of those.
Geebz BAM is awesome!!! Please consider reacting to some Children Of Bodom songs too.
I agree! If you liked Bodom after Midnight you should explore Children of Bodom. Rip Alexi
Other songs you should check out:
Another Space Song by Failure
Backlit by ISIS (band)
Mein Teil by Rammstein
The River Dragon Has Come by Nevermore
So happy to see a review for the frontman and song writer Alexi Laiho who passed recently. The man was a one of a kind musician. A talent that is sorely missed.
this was great reaction. i think this song is best heavy metal song this year. thanx and have great weekend.
He died in december 2020.
(do you still check the recommendation on UA-cam, or should we send them to you somewhere else?)
Keep up the great work man!
Geebz you should really check out “Floods” by Pantera. It’s super atmospheric
Pleaseeee do "everytime i die" by children of bodom. It's a better expression of Alexi's work (in my opinion)
Thank's for this great reaction! Here is a hope vote for "Helloween - Skyfall" :)
R.I.P Alexi
Waiting patiently for the next tracks by karnivool, deftones, tool, the ocean, river of nihil. Circle back and keep up the good work Geebz.
I'm 11 years older than Alexi,, and my First album was HALO ,,, OF BLOOD!!! dude I'm so blown away.. I love the speed, but it really kicks your nuts when it drops to a slow power beat, off tempo and musically melodic genius einstein!!!
If you liked this song I think you would definitely LOVE his old band Children of Bodom, as well as their napalm records labelmates in Aephenamer ♡
Wow I had no clue Children of Bodom started another band. Man where have I been!
Alexi Laiho died in December, sorry to break that to you.
RIP Alexi, you were almost pretty enough to kiss on the inside cover of the Hatebreeder album.
... and then you passed away due to liver problems after drinking way too much way too often.
It's not Children Of Bodom, it was Alexi who started a new band, since they had some issues inside the COB about the rights of the name etc.... sadly Alexi passed away December 29th...
@@wolverine669Alexi was CoB though... this EP proves that
@@nihilist1280 true that! Such a nice guy. Miss him. But he can do some riffs with Chuck and co. now.
Please do more of Alexi’s work, his previous band Children of Bodom, songs like Towards dead end, Everytime I Die, Lake Bodom, Downfall.. There’s plenty of incredible tracks to choose from!
Would LOOOVE to see Geebz to react to Red Light In My Eyes pt 1 and 2 from OG Children of Bodom
Glad to see more European metal. RIP Alexi. Insomnium and In Flames (old stuff) PLEASE GEEBZ. Waiting 5 months now!
RIP to one of the greatest, Alexi Laiho... Nicely done Geebz!!
a suggestion to do "Loathe - New Faces in the Dark" next good sir!
Kissing the Shadows by Children of Bodom. That song will not disappoint
Alexi was one sort of mastermind, R.I.P. wild child!
funny that the first thing that i hear from you in spanish is 'cojones' XD
love your videos man, keep it up
Bodom rules! Rip Alexi. You should check out a band called Equilibrium. Song called Unbesiegt . Epic folk metal 🤘
Dude yes! My favorite song is Snuffel, but they have so many unique songs. Underrated for sure.
@@JeremyBarbell love that song too!! Hard to pick. Any song from Sagas is fantastic. Would love to see a reaction to either song 😁
please do Pantera Cemetery Gates, it's perfect song, when you have not done Pantera, and get your mind blown with that solo and how Phill(singer) and Dime(guitar player) are riffing off and kinda challengin each other.
dont listen to the haters.... do your thing!
Death - Crystal Mountain, please.
Great melody 🤘🤘👌👌
If only Alexi was still here. Makes me think that how many good redords they left undone. Well human life is always more important.
Pantera - 13 Steps to Nowhere is a huge recommendation from me. It's an insane mix of amazing drumming, killer guitar, great bass, and dark vocals. I think it's also got great engineering.
Chevelle - One Ocean
I was listening this song in this minute!!! LOL
I would love to hear you decompose The day that the world breaks down by Ayreon. It’s a great track featuring 11 singers, violin, cello and a lot more. It has so many influences I’m sure you’re gonna dig it 😉
Please check out Avatar. A Secret Door from their new album or Bloody Angel or Statue of the King for something older.
I feel like you should dissect a Dissection
Riverside - Left Out. Please.
Hmm. The beginning sounds familiar. Something similar to Nightwish - MasterPassionGreed . Hmm ... Alexi and Tuomas were friends.
Rest In Power, Alexi WildChild Laiho.
Children Of Bodom - Red Light In My Eyes!
Part 1 or 2??
@@JeremyBarbell Both! And the whole album too!
Would love to hear your oppinion on some of the "Rings Of Saturn" stuff. Pretty wild / technical music.
If you want more of Alexi check out the band Children of Bodom, everytime i die, hate me, bodom after midnigt, downfall are great tracks.
Im sure I’m echoing someone else but you can’t truly appreciate what Alexi meant without digesting the first 3 Children of Bodom albums
