I was a bass in that choir and had sang that in our parish choir, but was blown away with the sound from the first time we sang it together with the orchestra. Once in a lifetime.
Over-the-top production obviously prepared in anticipation of Pope Benedict XVI, who resigned a year and a half earlier. Should have scaled it back considerably for Francis, who appears entirely disinterested for all the work and preparation many people spent many hours on.
@@nicholasstellhorn9734 i think you are right about pope francis. i still like the music tho. Maybe you're right that it was planned for Pope Benedict. seems they could have changed it, if that was the case.
I have to entone/teach the first 8 measures just like she did for Easter Vigil this Saturday...and I'm laughing at how crappy I sound after hearing her! 😂 #cantorgoals

What a grandiose production ! What a smug smile on the face of the cantor at 0.06 ! In this world it's the Church Militant, not the Church Triumphant. Francis couldn't look any more disinterested if he tried.
I've been honored to play for Pope Francis a couple of times (as well as BenXVI and JPII). Unlike his predecessors, who waved and glad-handed while processing, when Pope Francis is in liturgy mode there is no frivolity there are no distractions. The sleepy look is actually extreme focus on the liturgy/rite at hand.

Yep, that's top of the food chain right there. Best sound quality, best performed Festival Alleluia on the www.
Music sublime, to the Glory of God. Amen 🙏🙏🙏
This was written in 1998 for the Papal visit of John Paul II to St Louis... I sang in the choir for it... (the arrangement here is GREAT!)

I agree...and I was a member of the choir. The orchestrations were too over-the-top for my taste.

Francis isn't the Pope

Boring! If it weren't for the orchestration it would be garbage.
This is a masterpiece compared to the junk from OCP and GIA.
As long as Christ loves it. It is for him they are singing to.... not you.
