Guess I am old fashioned but I think old sewing machines are perfect without any changes.

These turned out adorable but it just killed me to see these beautiful tables and sewing machines being disassembled, especially that first one as it was gorgeous just as it was. It's not easy finding these with everything intact and still usable. I would have LOVED to have had that first one!! My grandmother had one but I don't know what happened to it since one of my uncles took control of everything and us few girls didn't get to have anything of hers. My husband bought me an antique Singer table though and I just need to get a replacement belt for it, hoping I can get it working again. I think I'm probably just too sentimental and born in the wrong century, LOL!! ❤

Your not too sentimental at all. I wanted one all my life. Finally found an affordable one at age 63, 2 years ago at a church thrift store for $25 . Got a bottom piece only with glass top at age 16 at flea market, still have it. Also have steamer trucks and milk jug from my mother.

I loved the first one in it's original shape! I'd love to buy one if I can find one. My grandmother had one, my cousin was the lucky one who got it. Aren't they antiques?

I have one here in Australia. Mine has the pretty carved drawers, 3 each side. Still in perfect working order. I love it 😊 I have often thought about using it as a bathroom vanity but like you I just couldn’t do it.

As lovely as yours are, I could never be able to do anything with my grandmother's treadle machine. Hers is a FREE brand and she actually willed it to me when she passed away at 104 years old. She actually used it until she was 100. I use mine as a sideboard but with the machine still inside.

Dear Mary , I am sorry I was so heart broken to see this beautiful cabinet and Machine taken apart! This one was so Beautiful and had so many Wonderful Details! I wish you could of used one that was already to far gone, or pieces you find at thrift stores or garage sales.
Tables were nice. Just very sad!

So beautiful. Turned these wonderful tables into something that can be used and left the Singer label on. My grandmother would have loved this. She had a Singer, loved to sew. I wish I had learned crocheting from her, she made beautiful things. Thank you 🧵🪡

I was gifted two of those metal bases a few weeks ago. The ones I got were fairly rusty from sitting in a garage for years. Cleaned them up and repainted them and added a little gold rub n buff over the Singer and symbols on the sides… look good as new now. Stained a couple of pieces of live edge boards for the tops and made them into matching end tables for my family room. Loved your ideas!

Years ago I removed the drawers/frame from an old sewing machine cabinet and installed it under an upper kitchen wall cabinet. Perfect vintage look, and the drawers held scissors, tape, glue, stapler, mending/repairing supplies and tools like screw drivers, etc., kitchen thermometer and other less-used tools.
For the base, I sprayed the iron pieces cream and added a slab of creamy marble (we lived in the Philippines where they have beautiful marble, cheap!). This piece serves me daily as a unique desk to which I added a beautiful vintage chair. I always keep the desk clean and tidy and placed it like a sofa table behind our leather sofa. Occasionally the chair is stored elsewhere, the desk is cleared and it serves as a dessert table for mealtime get-togethers.
Beautiful what you did with these three!
    *hugs*

Dear Mary, I have been watching you for a couple of years.I do a bit of crafting etc but was kinda at a stand still for lack of power tools or knowledge of how to use them. My wonderful husband for Christmas bought me a Dewalt drill and sander. His family were home builders and he has so much experience. His drills are large and hard for me to handle with my arthritis. The new drill is lighter. I haven’t used the sander yet but I’m stripping a table from the 1930’sfor my granddaughter and it will be so useful. You inspired me to want to tackle this and he listened. I’m from the Ozarks and have loved watching you and your beautiful home and family!

I would never have come up with that idea, brilliant! I have an old Singer stand gifted to me back in the early seventies- the wood was taken right off it and a glass top sat atop it. All these years later, the glass broke and I was thinking of a wood top but looking for a cabinet that belonged originally. I was only thinking of a flat top, now I am rethinking this. This is a video I surely want to show my son (who will be making this for me) ...........love this and now I will be on the lookout for a cabinet top. Love it Mary as usual. Best of the season to you and your family, including your fur family.

I’m so glad you shared this. I have to say you n John did a beautiful job at changing this old Singer sewing machine around. I’m also happy you used the drawers n what a look idea you did with them. Looks like it was made that way. As for the Singer emblem I wouldn’t of noticed that it was crooked until you mentioned it. A true treasure it is! I found a set of 3 drawers from a old sewing machine. I used from way back at Michaels some finals turn them upside down n glued them to the bottom of the drawers n it stands beautifully. Of course I kept the wood that holds the dray together to make. I painted it n distressed it. To this day I still get compliments on it. It really turned cute. I also took a couple of the drawers without the frame n put legs on it n use it for my mail carrier. I just how yours turned out. Thanks Mary.
His Blessings I wish for you.
Happy New Year to n family.
    ♥️♥️😊👍👍👍a

I am also in the minority with you. To each their own, I guess! I would never take apart an old sewing machine to make tables but if the guts are already gone and only the legs and/or drawers remain, I think repurposing in some way is an excellent idea!

The tables turned out perfectly! I’m so thankful John is able to be working from home, with you now, Mary. You work so well together and I believe John has a creative side as well. I retired in September at 62 and my husband is 63. His health forced him into early retirement and I decided to do the same. Our tomorrows are never promised and now that we’ve entered the winter of our lives, it’s time to enjoy “us”. We’re in Dayton OH and plan on making a trip to your area this year. We both look forward to Wednesday’s with you! Who would think I could get my big, burly, Harley riding husband to watch with me? May you and your family have a blessed New Year!

The first Singer is an exact replica of mine. It belonged to my dad's mother. She taught me to sew barbie doll clothes on it when I was in grade school. Now, 50 years later, it's a Plant stand in my great room. I don't have the heart to take it apart. I even have the little oil can and her old wooden spools in the drawers. 💜

It's cute. Broke my heart watching it taken apart. I had one I sewed on through the 70's 80's and 90's till someone broke in to our home and took everything while we were on vacation. I kept it in mint condition and used it almost every day. Haven't been able to find another working one 😞. Yours did turn out cute. Would be awesome in a sewing room.

Our house that was built in the 30’s has a built in bench booth in the kitchen. It had an odd table top that was on a hinge attached to the wall. That finally broke, so my Dad took the table top and attached it to the Singer base that was his grandmother’s. It’s such a cool piece. It’s one of my favorite things in our home!

  • @janeevans4758

Dear oh dear Those machines clearly were going to be gotten rid of. Mary & John rescued them and gave them a beautiful new life! The item is still there they have just cleaned it up and made the item useful again. I can't believe all these comments and uproar.. You all know Mary loves antiques and if the pieces had of been intact & working well I'm sure they wouldn't have been touched! Mary resells in her booth so chances are most of the people jumping up & down will get offended over something being re made useful again.
I personally think they made a exceptional job on bringing old, unused, damaged items back to life with a incredible upgrade... great job Mary & John.

The one with the top and bottom left as it was is the best. My husband made me one and I used it as a dressing table. Sad but they didn’t take the memories.
