Jem & the Holograms Opening Theme Extended 2014

- I usually do remixes that deviate from the original source material but in honor of Jem and the Holograms finally getting a film (in the works with the director of G.I. Joe: Retaliation) I thought I'd post this little sequence I did for personal pleasure and never shared. If you're a fan of Jem you'll probably appreciate this. Basically the dolls came with cassettes that had an extended version of the Jem theme. I recreated this extension using high quality source material and created a new intro to give the song some added length and a more traditional song structure. I edited some high def video footage to create an extended video of the opening sequence too! But please bear with me cause video editing is not something I have a great deal of skill with. I uploaded this video at the urge of another Jem fan who has a channel I enjoy very much!

This song because of selling over 13 million dolls that came with a cassette for you to play is technically considered a diamond hit song under RIAA Certification.
Man, cartoons back in the day got you pumped to watch the show.

The producer, director and actress of the 2015 "Jem" movie, came to dislike this video.
He he, it's never possible to please everyone :) but I'll always love the original Jem and the Holograms series. It's just a shame the live action movie couldn't stay more true to the source material.

The only thing great about this "show". So many cartoons of the '80s. Outstanding themes with absolutely no substance.... That didn't stop me watching them though I have to admit.... Excellent remix by the way.
Wow, awesome mix Nic. Not too long and not to short. Just right. The voices are crisp and the balance between voice and instrumental is amazing. One can clearly hear that you know what you're doing.

I look back and it just feels weird to me now being a young black boy back then and religiously watching this cartoon every saturday morning, I think my stepfather thought i was gay, lol
That just goes to show that Christy Marx did a fantastic job creating a show that appealed to both boys and girls even though it was marketed to sell dolls to girls.
And seriously, when you stop to look at the show... it's kinda messed up lol. There are so many crimes committed in the show! Kidnappings, attempted murders, grand theft, arson, extortion, embezzlement.
There's also a ton of action too! Hang Gliding, Olympic games, Indy 500, car chases, Kimber jumping off a building, Jerrica saving the President, the list goes on!
Quite the opposite. Look how Jem herself is designed and inked -- 100% woman. Kimber and the rest, even Roxy, are all realistically presented as well, in their short skirts, clingy outfits, '80s wide shoulders, and heels. Jem's slash skirt with tassle is very attractive. She's not supposed to be a kid, but a confident and self-directed young woman.

Not only that, but you can achieve totally different lighting effects with cel animation that's simply not feasible with digital animation. Like, the way Jem's hair seems to glow is definitely a film-only effect. You try doing that with digital, and it falls flat.

***** Glad you liked it :) My version is merely an extended version of the original opening. In later seasons they changed the opening to the "Jem Girl" theme which I consider far and away inferior to this one.

maxime fabre You can find quite a few Jem acapellas from this site www.jemthingsandstuff.co.uk/ hopefully that helps you! You can also extract acapellas from the DVD's if you know how. That site I linked had instructions on how at one point. I dont know if it still does.
